I guess I can say I'm from a time before the golden age of cRPGs. I say this because many of the hard-core cRPGs gamers praise a lot some of the games that were made before I even had a computer. Maybe it's their nostalgia talking, maybe it's not. Some of these so-called old gems are just... old and the "huge pixels" keep me away from them. Another reason, ironically, is because they use first person view (today's so-called state-of-the-art) instead of isometric. With the aforementioned above, I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of some of these old games. On the other hand, considering the amount of work they would likely require, some new modules on ToEE or Greyhawk wouldn't be bad thinking at all. On the other hand (it's the third hand), the remake of these old gems could attract some new blood. BTW, even though the BG series are some of my fav games, I think doing a remake of it - considering the tech differences - would be a waste of time, not to mention the huge world BG is. Just to be clear, I'm really playing the russian roulette with this list since I haven't played any of them. Some of the games that come to mind (from hearing about them so many times): (comments from wikipedia) Darksun 1-2: I really liked reading the description of this one in wikipedia. Focus on character interaction instead of combat, "noted for its highly strategic combat thanks to its two-dimensional turn-based combat system", "many of the boss battles involve a large army rather than a few powerful mages or fighters", "proper formation and spell use is a must". Darklands: (*) The plot is not linear. There is no set path for a player to follow. The player is free to complete quests that will give them a positive reputation, or to pursue a negative reputation by performing evil deeds. Age is a factor. Characters will begin to lose physical prowess as they age. However, the older the player is when the character is generated, the more skills and better equipment he or she starts with. Eye of the Beholder 1-3: Betrayal at Krondor: (*) Realms of Arkania 1-3: (*) (*) not AD&D, so I guess it's a bad choice. Last, but not least, I have to say that this thread really goes by unnoticed for occasional lurkers like me. It wouldn't be a bad idea to oke: it.
Gotta go with the A1-4 Slavers series, G1-3 Against the Giants and D1-3 Descent into the Depths series, though not Q1, since that was NOT the intended module Gary had in mind as the climax of the G&D series. I would also be partial to a duology S4: Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (WG3) and WG4: The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun. Naturally, these higher level modules should allow you to incorporate characters from T1-4, ala the Myth Drannor-series.
From what I could read this is just discussion, that means no code at all so far, but you may be interested in this thread.
I'd love to see something like RTTOEE or other Greyhawk modules. I mean, I enjoyed stuff like NWN and BGII, but I like the setting for TOEE better. It's still generic fantasy, but somehow different, and more exciting. I also wouldn't mind seeing what Arcanum looks like in TOEE engine.
Both Underworld games feature in my personal top ten favourite PC games of all time but I don't reckon that they would work all that well from an isometric perspective. I would, however, love to see some of the Ultima games bought to life on the TOEE engine. An Ultima 7 with TOEE's combat system would just be so sweet.
Without any doubt the BG-SoA-ToB storyline. It would be a dream coming true, fighting battles like those with Sarevok, Irenicus and above all the Ascension mod final fight against the Five + Melissan in turn based mode.
My favorite D&D campaign world was always Krynn. I liked Forgotten Realms a lot too, but never played much in Greyhawk beyond isolated modules then TOEE (of course). I would LOVE to see a mod that used the TOEE game system but set in Krynn during the War of the Lance. Probably way beyond what could ever be done, but since we're dreaming...
I would love to see "Warriors of the Eternal Sun" brought to the TOEE engine. It's an old SAGA 16 bit title that I love dearly.
you know actually the title is the answer of the question already. you can actually play anything on this marvelous engine
Wizard's crown. Despite its enormous age, it's actually the closest crpg I can think of to Temple right down to the reach weapon spears, although in some ways it might have been even more realistic and complicated combat, with three types of weapon damage (bleeding, pain/injury, life/hp loss.) Temple has far more powerful social options with its skills, so... as good as it is as a combat simulator, it also has enormous potential for social options as well. As good or better than any of the other games so often heralded. Usually, I play rpg's for the NPCs, although most of the games out there are barely even trying outside of bioware. I'd love to see some opinionated characters that can speak for themselves, that bring to mind knights of the old republic.
There is icewind gate delta if anyone would like to play bg2 in 3rd edition rules (it basically implements bg2 campaign to icewind dale 2, it's still real-time though). --- I would love to play all real-time no action rpg on toee engine. :dribble: Would like to see a game based on dragonlance (haven't seen one since 90s) / Asian campaign (not including Japan since there are plenty of games based on Japan already, no offense here)
If there's going to be a dragon lance game, I want to see something that makes it really stand out and leave me going "AHH this isn't Oerth or Toril!" And I don't just mean Kender. That's the one thing about Oerth and the temple. Other than the gods and a few names, there's nothing huge to differentiate it from Baldur's gate's world. For that matter while we're talking about different, why do you we have to always go back to elf-dwarf-medieval worlds in our fantasy? Because Torment failed economically?
