    I have a desktop, laptop and a wireless netgear router, but i'm currently restricted to dialup speed :( downloading Windows Security updates at this speed sure takes it time.

    @maggit: If I'm not mistaken, the Anthlon 64X2 are AMD's answer to Intel's Dual-Core Processors. From everything that's been told to me, AMD's dual-core processors are superior to Intel's, especially when it comes to gaming rigs. Plus, they generally run a lot cheaper, as well. I plan to get one for my computer that I will be building sometime in the near future (as soon as I get a job to fund my little project).

    They are basically the same and are nearly identical with the single difference being voltage.

    That is because AMD-style motherboards and AMD processors are made to more commonly allow people to change settings, being tweaked and overdriven.

    The only real reason I'm going with AMD are two small points: One, I'm going for a budget system, and the AMD Anthlon 64X2's (from what I've seen online) seem to be priced a good bit cheaper than Intel's CPU's. Second, I've checked out the specs on motherboards, and again there, I found almost exactly what I want in an AMD motherboard, and it's far cheaper than what I'd pay for an Intel board of the same capacity.

    And the prices are from legit sites. I'm doing most of my shopping from newegg.com, and probably going to pick up a few odds and ends from tigerdirect.com

    My Athlon based system (@1.1 Ghz) with a gig of ram is still humming along after 5 years, give or take.

    Mayhaps we should split this off into it's own thread, to keep Krunch's little advice thread clean. Maybe call it "Questions to the Kap'n" or something of the sort?

    ****************************************

    ERROR: "nnnn: Error: One of the game folders can't be accessed..."

    ****************************************

    There are many of these error types.
    nnnn: Error: One of the game folders can't be accessed! Make sure that no other application uses any of the game folders, then try again.
    • (a) These errors can involve a missing file or a moved file or a corrupted file and, normally, means an uninstall and reinstall of the Co8 MOD and the game;
    • (b) computer security programs can lock a file and, normally, means disabling the security program before starting the ToEE game (unless the file in question is a virus infected file - is quarantined, locked, or renamed according to the security program action);
    • (c) Microsoft dotNET 2.0 was not installed, was not installed properly, or is somehow fouled up and dotNET 2 needs to be reinstalled;
    • (d) delete templefrontend.ini located in your ToEE game parent folder and load frontend again, if that fails you may have to uninstall and reinstall the Co8 MOD and the game from scratch;
    • and, lastly, (e) the video card does not have enough memory or has gone bad and the video card needs to be replaced or upgraded (normally an older computer or video card).

    This is an uncommon, rare issue. The above are approaches to resolving this problem most of the time. Occasionally, there is no fix for the problem.

    Hey Cap'm, remember that this error can also be caused by plain old having the ToEE directory open in Windows Explorer (or one of the files therein). In fact, every time it's ever happened to me, that's been the reason.

    Click the link on that page beside of the above named Download.

    Also, here's a link to information for crafting holy weapons in ToEE. (LINK)
    * IIRC the maximum Effective Enchantment Level (EEL) got fixed in a recent .dll fix.
    Weapons can have a maximum of +10 (EEL).

    Here is information on the different game endings for ToEE involving the Golden Orb.

    -> The Locked Level

    :punch: Sometimes the linked web page does not work. :no:

    ********** SPOILER **********

    It seems the ending you get is determined by five things:

    1. whether or not you've destroyed the Orb and reach her in time
    2. whether you talk to the Old Woman first using the character with the Orb
    3. whether you've not yet found the orb and entered after beating all four elemental planes
    4. whether you allow her to live during the fight, and what you do with the ensuing conversation
    5. if none of the above, refusing or accepting the pillar of platinum.
