Why would it be installed incorrectly? I just installed it as it comes, and every other mod in Hommlet works fine ... all the other quests, dialogues, people, the kids, etc ... so why would it be an install issue? I think it's a bug issue, that's why I posted it here.

Can the author of the Kentar orc cave quest mod please help me?

Because you have to put the update to data.co8 and
the folder in the CMF is named data.

Update on the extraplanar chest: loading a previous savegame and healing the original owner back to consciousness before using it rather than having a different player use it while the original owner was out cold cleared it up.

New bug: Critical hit with Scorching Ray cut the damage dice in half rather than doubling them. Went from 4d6 to 2d6.

    P.S. I'm using 5.0.0.

I don't understand how to install the culmative 5.0.3. It said to open it in the root menu but I don't know what that means. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

k let me first say this is quite awesome all the work everyone here has done to improve this D&D classic and say thanks and i would like to ask a question is there any way i could possibly get someone to post the installation order starting from install to the latest patch an fixes including all the add-ons since and i mean all i want everything please. I apologize if i am posting in the wrong thread but from all the ones i read about toe this one seemed the most up to date

    Hello all,

Excuse my absence during the past several months; I've just gotten back into playing ToEE.

From and above post 510 of this thread there was some discussion of the drow found in the Deklo Grove. In the interest of tweaking and improving this small but colorful aspect of the game, unless it has been addressed elsewhere in the thread or by another modder, I would propose the following:

That, a) the drow's hand crossbow be deleted or put into his inventory, making him, effectively, certain death armed with his sword. This would be simple, and his level and magical equipment would assure nothing else would need to be changed for him to deal with low-level characters. The crossbow could be left over for challenge of acquisition or nostalgia, if desired.

And, b) that his dialogue files (and PC responses) be cleaned up to match the punctuation/formatting standard of the rest of the game. Again, the core conversation and branching could remain unaltered and the job probably done easily by those who have any experience in character modding.

My part in this has mostly been to raise the issue, thus far, but I would take care of the leg work if a bit of specific help were offered. The general tutorials on dialogue editing I've read have been very broad and covered more than I really plan to do at this point, but if someone perhaps pointed me in the direction of the Deklo Grove drow's inventory and dialogue files, I could give it a shot.

In any case, there it is. I'm not letting this issue die until I do first, or am brutally maimed beyond capability to access the computer and keyboard.

eye wil due tihs . ;)

Seriously, this should be little trouble at all. Thanks for pointing it out. You sound like a well spoken (written) fellow yourself, so if you figure it out before I get there (dialogue files are not hard to mod), fell free to jump on it. Or any other problems you come across for that matter.

    grate! gud luk! :p

Thank you for looking into it. I may study ShiningTed's tutorial, once I am able to sit down with it, but beginning with the explanation of .py and 0s and 1s my vision begins to blur. Programming and editing are not my forte, though I can occassionally puzzle them out.

The hand crossbow issue could use some fixing, as well, but I appreciate any attention paid to this poor dark elf. He and Jaroo's chest, er, Jaroo's box, er...Jaroo's storage container have been points of obsession since my arrival...apparently (at least the latter was fixed).

Ted's tute is quite comprehensive for creating dialogue files, but to simply edit one for typos, grammar, etc., you need only navigate to Temple of Elemental Evil/data/dlg and locate which .DLG file you want to edit there (in this case 00274DrowLeader.dlg). Open it with good old Notepad and go to work.

I have attached that file here for your convenience, so why don't you have a go at it and re-post your corrected version. In general you shouldn't take many liberties with someone else's work . . . if it's typos you're after, stick to fixing typos and avoid adding Shakespeare. ;)

Note that NPC lines (they usually occur at intervals of 10 and should be fairly obvious anyway) have two responses - one for males and one for females. Be sure to edit them both.

Thanks very much for your help with this; I didn't realize the process was so simple. Posting the file was also useful and appreciated, as I know a few more drow were added later in the game.

I'll post my results early tomorrow, and, worry not: I had planned to keep any changes very basic. I'm not certain as to the original authorship, nor was Cerulean if I recall correctly, but the writer has only my respect. I am very fond of the encounter, and my suggestions are to be taken only as pedantic, not artistic.

Here's the updated file. I also took the liberty of localizing the spelling of 'center' in the encounter sharing and just above the drow captain's; anyone is free to change that, or I can post another copy with the adjustment removed.

Something troubles me: The drow's note is to be taken to Lareth, and, having read said note in the dlg directory, I believe it creates new story elements that may not be developed or continuous with the rest of the plot. It mentions a dark god, possibly Zuggtmoy, but refers to it as 'he'. Further, Lareth would already be fully aware of the Temple, and the drow captain gave no evidence of being unfaithful to Lolth when first encountered.

It's just confusing, I think. The note should be altered or sealed, in my opinion, and I'm also not certain as to how the quest ends: I was unable to find the appropriate dlg entry. I suppose I'll just have to play it out! In the meantime, I may rewrite the note, if anyone agrees.

EDIT: I've decided, for simplicity's sake, to delete the drow captain encounter from my next game, as I haven't found a simple solution to the letter issue. I may come back to it, though, and the below attachment is still valid as a beta effort, I think.

Looks good at a glance, Leopold. :)

I believe the original author was actually rufnredde. I think. As far as the note goes, that's Lord_Spike's. He's a currently active contributor with very specific reasons for stating things the way they are there, so I wouldn't fiddle that. He can explain his rationale for it here if he chooses.

Okay, next step: generally all new mods are posted in this sticky thread in the GM forum:

5.0.x Cumulative Mods and Fixes (CMF) Submissions Thread

So, you should post the zip there with a brief description of what it is. Also (and this is very important): you should always ensure that the file you're modifying is the very latest version of it in existence. I believe that's the case with the drow .dlg file, but normally you should get the file from an install that's up to date with all the latest patches, and you should check the CMF submission thread for the existence of the file in any mods posted since the last CMF release (those not yet included in it). In this fashion we avoid causing trouble for the mod assembly people down the line, as if there are two or more of the same file out there with different changes in them, it requires file-comapring and whatnot to merge them . . . if they catch the snafu at all. Not trying to be dictatorial here, just emphasing the importance of keeping our ducks in a row, so to speak. ;)

Lastly . . . if you're serious about contributing more in this fashion, you should absolutely feel free to do so with anything you find in ToEE. However, ToEE modding is slowing down in favor of development of the Keep on the Borderlands module. Shiningted may well have need of a capable dialogue writer or editor or two, so look up the How to get involved in making KotB thread in the KotB forum if you want to jump in on something more topical and dynamic.
