Sounds really, really good. I would definetly play that one and definetly donate for that purpose if it would help make it real.

Actually, there is a bug/feature in the crafting mechanism such that one can craft an item with lots of stuff added on and yet GAIN XP and gold.

I'll admit that I have been known to buy Masterwork items, craft them and sell them back. But, after a while I had so much gold that doing that becomes just a bother and adds nothing I need. I am near the end of the game and have six figure platinum reserves.

I've seen a lot of good ideas in this thread. The only thing that I can think of to wish for would be to remove the XP/Level cap higher. My characters maxed out after the WotGS.

An alternate to raising the cap would be to make the XP needed for level advancement follow a higher scale. I've played some cRPG games where the increment was exponential instead of linear as it is in this game. Either thing would make it worth while to keep on playing.

To advance from 11th to 20th level only requires the same xp per level as going from 9th to 10th. It's a hard coded limitation.

Really? I thought you needed the correct amount to level up (xthousand more XP to go from levelx to x+1), but that the game gave out XP as if you were still 9th level (so 19th level characters get huge XP for winning fights against CR 15 encounters), though I can't say I paid fhat much attention.

Okay but that's a bug in the game. But aim of the game is to advance and become more powerful, not to accumulate cash for the sake of it.. I can't see why on Oerth a fighter with a +1 sword is going to part from it for cash unless he first obtains a +2 sword (and even then he'd be better gifting it to a follower, or to a local lord in return for future favours). And I can't think why a wizard is going to expend hard-won XP crafting items for sale to any Tom Dick or Harold for cash either. If I crafted an item in a PnP game for another PC who then sold it for no good reason, I wouldn't be crafting again in a hurry.

I very much agree with you -- however, there are some items one might want to buy that are horrendously expensive. Example: my blacksmith next to the castle has +4 items for sale, but they cost on the order of 5000 platinum. I'd not be able to aford that much if I had not used my skills to craft weapons for profit. OTOH, I'm not sure that his +4 items are going to be any better than my +3 with keen, and all sorts of fiery & icy burst on them.

Usually in these types of games, I avoid buying very much from the merchants since one tends to find all you need off of killed oponents.

Just for easy knowledge, here's the progression of levels and the xp needed according to TOEE ModPak 7.5.

And then XP freezes at 20999 since according to the formula, 21000 would be what is needed for level 21.

I can also vouch that XP can be made to go higher than 20999, that has no impact on anything except XP needed for crafting -- but by then who needs to craft anymore;)

You are probably right. I remember that you level like you are level 10+ from then on.

20,999 would put you one short of level 7, do you mean 209,999?

Tha original 1st E. pnp version had a rumor of a horrible monster lurking outside the temple.Maybe put a Hyra or something in the "unused"map section of the temple.(When I first played the game premod vanilla. I was disapointed not to find anything running aound.)

    Yes -- I miscounted the 9's.

BTW, on a few occasions, one of my characters had XP more than 209,999 -- but was not offered a level up. He ended up spending those XP on crafting.

That makes sense being that the game is written for level 1-10, but the great modding minds here at the Co8 extended the leveling to 20.

You can not gain a level the game doesn't know exists.

The leveling is hard coded and it was a feat of ingenuity that allowed the mod to extend the leveling, if you notice the amount of xp needed for levels from 10-20 is not on cue with the SRD, but they made due with what the engine could be convinced to accept.

That's one of those 'bring-a-tear-to-your-eye' things with ToEE: it was built (though not completely finished and rounded out) to handle leveling to 20, which means Troika had designs on expansions/sequels. (That's not a mystery anymore given what Tim Cain has said recently, but still.) All we did was open it up, and some of our more dedicated people did stuff like enable higher level feats so that you could actually get to those levels. :)
