I checked the code and ToEE Front-End X (as of the latest released public version) uses the same DLL hack that was always used to patch the number of available player character/NPC slots. This basically implies that functionally there is nothing to fix in TFE-X at the moment - either this was always the behavior in the Co8 mod (though I don't think so) or some other change in temple.dll broke/altered this behavior, but it's not something TFE-X can remedy directly - we'd have to know what exactly is causing this issue and what temple.dll modification will fix it. Once that is figured out it might be possible to implement the necessary change to the TFE-X mechanism (in case the change affects the PC/NPC hack as such) or simply integrated into temple.dll (if it does not depend on any patches enabled/disabled via TFE-X). - Agetian
