    NPC humanoid races can be made by making new "clothing" for them...

    The Drow for example are just Elves with black masks, boots, gloves, and armour that cannot be looted, I made thier "loot" appear after they die. With new masks other races (Mindflayers, Vampires, Lich's and I'm sure many other humanoid races) can be added fairly painlessly, and look really effective at the same time.

    which 'mask' model do the drow use?

    I'm not sure on the specifics, Cujo made them. They use item numbers 6500 for the mask, and 6501 for the wig.

    you can use the give #### command in the console to try them out. :)

    it uses one of the heads, probley human or elf

    i've created a mindflayer head model but im having difficulty with my old version of max (importing = lose UVs). So i'll need to figure out how to get around this before doing more on it :(

    @vampiricpuppy; comments on you work so far.

    1. the driders torso/abs are to long by about 300% and IMO the ears are not nessary.
    2. the tigers head is to big and its legs are to thick
    3. the naga's head does look human enough
    4. the mind flayers head is wrong - tentacles are to short, not pointy enough and not thick enough where they join the head. the eye is to high and the rest of the head doesn't look octopussy enough
    5. the beholder looks good

    i'm pretty sure the reason he's modelling a new one is he wants to create a very specific creature, to be modded in at a later date; hence the tiger fur and stuff :)

    Hmm we could also have an intellect devourer by reskinning
    one of the mushrooms (the one that looks like a pink brain
    with tentacles).

    Redid the helm...

    whats an acceptable poly count for something like this do you think?

    here are two versions of the same helm; low res (190sh polys) and one subdivide up from that (750ish polys)

    Are the proportions a bit more on track do you think?

    Actually I did not know about the existence of a minotaur. I am crestfallen :no:
    I will have to model something else then.

    oh! ioannis i would have told you ages ago, but i assumed you knew! :eek:

    you might want to extract toee1.dat and look in the meshes folder; that will help to give you an exact idea of what is in there.

    Was the tigery-minotaur model not a specific unique creature that diverges from a normal minotaur? You could try playing around with the existing skin if it is simply a textural difference - from memory theres two different minotaur skins available, one brown, one grey. You mentioned specific weaponry for the model, and if thats all you wanted to add (new skin + new weapons) then that would actually be possible at this point.

    Having said all that, your modelling ability has obviously come ahead by leaps and bounds, and remember that existing models can always be chopped up and used for spare parts in new models; i re-use hands/arms/torso's all the time :D

    The yuan ti's hands are actually modified hands off the drider with elongated more claw-like fingers :D

    Regarding my mindflayer head, im going to keep working at it; as the aim is to create something with decent geometry and low poly count. 800 polies is honestly enough to build a (rather simple) creature - while mindflayers may not be on the screen en masse as such, i'd like to come up with an efficient solution that still looks good :D

    I like the illithid head on the left best, remember allyx you can hide alot of the pollygons through the texture (and it'll be damn small in game).

    @ioannis; if you've got hichory branch you might see the fiendish minotur I re-skined for krunch. (look in data/art/meshes/monsters)
