In thinking about how good those models look, I recall ShiningTed wanting a Mesh ID for a feline domesticated cat. In his attempts to make a cat, he reported they just don't 'flick' their tail like cats.

Ummm... I have been at work on a Marut. I don't know what a Marut is, but when I saw it in the DnD web page, I thought I might make one.
My first thought was to just send the pics to vampiricpuppy, but I could not attach a pic by means of PM.
Anyway, I have included a picture of the "original" Marut. If you feel we can have one in Kotb (Shiningted?) maybe I could make some improvements, or anyone else who is willing to work on it a bit.

What does a lamia do for tail flicking? They are the closest thing to a housecat in the game, 'cept for the whole human torso thing. Still, we want the tail animation, right? Maybe it could be picked out from the code & added to other things.

Thank you for the pic, vampiricpuppy.
Is this thing that looks like a beak supposed to be the creature's helmet? If so, I was mistaken. I'll try to fix this now.

Here's a link to the Art Archives at the DnD website:

    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/ag

It may help give you different perspectives on the things you wish to try modeling. One more suggestion; try looking for additional DnD forums to help you with your information gathering. Lots more ideas are out there besides the one you find here. I'll bet they'd be more than happy to help in your quest for knowledge.

    @ cuchu/leksey/anyone else who's interested:

tried slicing up my mindflayer head at the relevant 'seams' so that the uv's were still neat, but there were duplicate vertices holding the mesh in place, so that there wasnt any doubled up information; got a different garbled result :(.

I might run some simple tests using very basic models, see what happens.

Thank you for the link Lord Spike.

I was really wondering when I was modelling it, what on earth DnD has to do with oversized roosters

I forgot to ask: Is everyone OK with the materials that are used in the Marut (ie how the armour looks) or should it be changed to something more "simple" or more "elaborate"?

    @vampiricpuppy
All of them are great, but the Tarrasque looks impeccable. Are you going to use scales for the texturing?

Hmm. I was hoping we had it all worked out. I was sure before that there were 2 seperate problems with the UV map on export. But once I read Leksey's explenation of the SKM limitations, thinking back on all my tests I couldn't remember anything that couldn't be explained by it.

Good Luck, post anything else you figure out and I'll do the same.

    Cuchulainn.

I thing I have fixed the "beak" problem, here is am image.
I (think I) had a similar problem to the one you were having with your textures, and I have version 9. My problem did not occur with exporting/importing, though. Did you use the instance option in mirroring(if you mirrored, that is)? If so, that may have caused it.

ioannis im not using max for any of my modelling; so the mirroring is done in maya :p

essentially what i tried was to seperate the different uv shells by selecting them, then using maya's 'extract' tool, to move them to a seperate object (this creates duplicate vertices around the edges of the area you extract, which is what i wanted) then i combined the models into one object again.

now to me, that should have worked; but it was still garbled when i brought it into and back from SKM (though garbled differently from before).

@ax: googling dragonite only brought up pokemon results for me >_>
