So, the problem was in the meshes. @___@ I should have guessed that. Shoulda clicked after seeing so many people lately talking about meshes and how you can make one item look like another with a different mesh. It makes perfect sense. What exactly would we need to download and install and such to edit all those mesh files? I'm good with tedious work, so I'll do it if someone tells me how. EDIT: A dat extractor from teh downloads section... I'm on it! Someone mind thinking up a list of what items should be un-glowed? EDIT2: Wait. Won't editing the wg_magic.mdf take the glow off of all the magic weapons?
In case it's decided to proceed, here's what I suggest as a starting point for this. Keep in mind, I believe it's more important to first fix the items with descriptors that have them "pre-identified." Things that should glow: Most Swords & ALL Daggers shed light. The swords that do not shed light are: Flametongue - flames run the length of the blade upon speaking the command word (The one in the game is ok). Frostbrand - Glows with blue hue in temperatures below 0 degrees fahrenheit (The one in the game is ok). Holy Avenger - In the hands of a Paladin, a circle of power (& light) emanates in a 10' radius (Not one in this game). Life Stealing - No light whatsoever (Should have the aura removed). Sharpness - 0' to 30' depending on the desire of the wielder (Not one in this game). Other things that should glow which are not swords or daggers: Lareth's Staff of Striking Rod of Smiting Wonnilon's Crossbow Moradin's Soul Hammer Thorned Chains of Love Holy Ransuer Holy Mace Holy Longsword (Meleny's Dowry) David's Sling Smith & Westrealm .50 Items crafted by the PC party I'm sure I've forgotten a few of the things folks have modded in, so feel free to tack on here. Things like Hanzo Steel were left out on purpose...because they are swords. Other weapons belonging to key figures could be added as well if people think they should be. But, every single +1 WTF-ever magic weapon does NOT need to be here. Edit: It was easier to make a list of things that should glow rather than should not...everything else should not glow.
Yes, it will, unless the weapon is question has Alignment (i.e. Holy) or Elemental (i.e. Cold) properties. This is not something we can appy selectively.
Shhhh!!! If there's no selectivity with the glow, then scrap the idea & let's settle for at least fixing what players wouldn't obviously know...like that a katana was +1, etc.
...and success! Thanks so much to everyone that worked on this....brilliant work Cujo!....hee!
your next step is to upload the file for everyone to enjoy. (just zip it and attach it to your next post in this thread)
Here 'tis...! As per Cujo's instructions, simply unzip this file and copy it to data/art/meshes in your ToEE root directory...and viola! Works like a charm
Congrats TempestZen, you can now consider yourself one of the Co8 mod crew. I wish more people would actually TRY to mod instead of just complaining about things they don't like, it's not hard to do.
Shouldn't all unidentified magic weapons and armor at least present a 'masterwork' descriptor? At least in core 3.X it is the case that any enchanted item has to be MW first, right? So at least that would be immediately obvious, no?
Oookay. I know you guys get some flak now and then when someone whines about the mod which they don't pay for, but why this 'rant'? I mean, those few people who do try to work things out get berated as "would-be heroes who are then shot down". It's not exactly very encouraging. I mantain that I'm *very* grateful for all the work that's been poured into the mod.
its all good Cujo. im a tinkerer more than anything else, i know a little on how stuff works and if i can help i try. sometimes even when i cant help i try lol, which isnt always a good thing. i probally never would have opened that up. im still a bit leary of playing around with the DAT files and the DLL. im glad you knew how to take care of it though
On balance, I don't suppose it was anymore encouraging for Cujo. If you're just trying to experiment/test/learn that's fine, and though I don't speak for Cujo, I'm fairly certain that he welcomes that from new modders. But this thread assumed the character of a semi-major modding endeavor, and in that light the fact that his counsel wasn't actively sought (he is the graphics guru around here, after all) amounted to a waste of time and resources. No doubt Cujo saw that it would be him providing the eventual solution anyway, despite all the theorizing and misdirected experimentation, so I'd say he's entitled to a little irritability in that light. If you guys had asked him what he thought in the beginning, he could have pointed you in the right direction days ago and by now you'd be onto something else. Not trying to start any grudgematches here mrbunnyban, as you seem like a pretty straight-up fellow to me. It's just frustrating at times for us 'vets' when newcomers try to re-invent the wheel.
