ok I have two samples. I have a Black Jay scripted and an Elmo Unscripted just for fun made during equipment testing. Sorry no women yet...they'll be coming soon. Woo hoo. They are in full fledged .wav running almost 8mb a pop. Nice work Zorn! eace: Black Jay sounds awesome, and I'm already picturing a randomly selected service anouncement playing during dredits when you rap the game.:evil_laug Cuchulainn.
I can't stand it...:biggergri NOW you know why it's taken us twenty five years (more or less) to get through some of these !@%$#*& dungeons. Some nights, it seems like all we'd do is make jokes...once we got on a tear, that was it. Game Over. Well, okay...delayed. Nice stuff, there, Zorn!
Zorn: I like the Black Jay portrayal a great deal. Looking forward to the others. When I get a chance I'll put some more BJ lines up. Thanks again. Sober Elmo: <sigh> Another 'mandate.' 1 nay from The Captain, 1 yea from Allyx. And a distant endorsement from darmagon a few days back. Ah well, ties always go to the 'don't change anything' side, so consider it scuttled. Thanks for the feedback anyhow, you two. Hey krunch, I bet you never thought you'd end up being a one-man Co8 decision making entity. From now on, I'll ask you alone to make the thumbs-up or -down calls. Allyx can be your consultant if you're uncertain about something. -_-
I would say I hate being the monkey wrench in the gears, but I would be lying. Black Jay did sound good, except for on little nagging thing. There is a slight underlying Jersey or Brooklyn accent in there that just kept bugging me. Being from the West Coast, it doesn't surprise me that I am the only one who heard it so far. Still, good work Zorn. Keep 'em coming.
@Gaear:  Ask away anytime. I'll be certain to qualify information with Allyx (and Lord_Spike as needed). haha
The next thing you say is the Valley Elves think the Gnarley Forest is "Like totally tubular , dude." There was a guy we played with named Nessman who had a dad who was Black Jay ..couldn't help the accent it just spilled into it. Pick yer region I think we can change it. I was born and raised in South Carolina. We could tell Black Jay to go back to Jersey and do him as a Minnasotan, dont cha know.
I thought I recognized that voice... "Are you talkin' to me?" He was the kind of guy who you didn't ever want to cross paths with in the negative sense; always gave good, albeit terse, advice...one of of the heroes of our youth. "Yeah, those are the kind of bastards you just hit with a brick-bat...don't let 'em hurt ya." Blue...that was a good call, but it's only a sampling of the possibilities. If I know Zorn, it'll be refined until everyone is totally satisfied with it. Zorn is a man with many voices. Edit: Sorry, Gaear....I remember talking about this, but perhaps it was elsewhere. I get lost among all these cob-threads... I am on the side of not re-doing an entire voice set unless the dialogue is changed for the game somehow, and a new voice set really needs to be done to match what is being stated. I think new PC voices could be done, as well as new voices for existing NPC's who haven't been speaking that much (if at all). What you've done with Elmo's voice to take out the drunk effect is better IMO than re-voicing the entire character. And he is supposed to be a little dumb-acting too, so it's okay if he sounds like he just got off the short wagon from the fighter's special training school in Verbobonc. While he's not a moron, he is supposed to be acting the part of a low-brow man-at-arms. Edit 2: If those BJ lines are really good, it is we who will be thanking you... :cool2:
One thing I noticed is the volume for Blackjay got a little too low (too quiet) to really hear a couple of times. Some more, a little more volume in those places would be good.
Actually enjoyed the Elmo thing. sounds realistic. Had a bit of a problem with the Black Jay stuff. don't get me wrong. It sounds very proffesional. However, I had a problem with the accent. To me, and I am no expert but...it really had a New York kind of thing going on. That ruined it for me. Took me out of the D&D reference frame and had me thinking "Goodfellas" or "Taxi Driver" or maybe even John Wayne. I don't know, just threw me a weird loop.... Darmagon
"Are you talking to me, pilgrim?" I donwloaded this at the time but haven't gotta around to listening to it, now I AM intrigued O and I agree with Spike about not redoing things when there is soooo much new stuff to do.
@Zorn - Here is the complete Black Jay dialogue file, if you're still interested. Open it with Notepad. Gaear
I had a lengthy talk with him this evening. We're hooking up Monday (if I can swing a day off...) for some PnP. Might even do a couple of voices...can you post up some other stuff you'd like to hear? He was of the opinion that folks weren't all that enthused by his samples, but I convinced him otherwise. You know how this place is...if people like it, they say little or nothing; but if they hate it...they'll let you know for sure.
Tell Zorn that I liked it, my little quibble aside. He should definately continue. This game needs the sort of life he can bring to it with his voice acting. WE NEED YOU ZORN!
