ToEEFE 4.00 wishlist & beta versions

    Oh, and while I'm at it, Drifter's Humble NPCs fix also prevented the NPCs from selling anything as well. Spellslinger left that part alone as well.

    Now I have asked Spellslinger to look into the "loot only coins and gems" fix that was incorporated into the 3.0.4 dll. Unfortunately neither he nor I can find any documentation on it. If he can isolate it (and has the time and inclination to do so) I would be in favor of having it and the his "not mark everything NPCs pick up as NO_TRANSFER" fix as being standard, with the "no loot/no sell" being an option.

    Is the "loot only gems and coin" standard still? It's been so long since I have played without Humble NPCs turned on I don't know.

    Well, it certainly works. The NPCs are set they way they always are - Spugnoir and 'non-looters' like Meleny and Thrommel are set to arcane scrolls only, Zert and Elmo to half shares only, others not set to anything (or, set to loot as normal, whichever way u look at it).

    I should imagine the 'fix' comes from the setting of every single item in the game as 'no NPC pickup'. KotB is based on Co8 4.0.0, and I have continued this practise with all the new items except the variety of new gemstones I introduced: and sure enough, these get looted, nothing else does.

    I shudder to think of the poor Co8 modder who put all those flags in back in the early days, possibly before ProtoEd was even made....

    I installed Zhuge's protos.tab and now my Co8 game is acting funny :(

    Interesting read that: things used to be so civilised ;)

    If it wasn't for humble_npc fixing the looting, and co8 3.0.4, i'd dumped this game a long time ago. As it is now, a npc can't loot a body or a chest,so all the loot they get is whatever the pc's give them. If they come back to an encounter area after 24 hrs they can pick up loot off the floor/ground. I'd like to see npc's be able to loot anytime,anywhere. You recruit these people to fight and cast spells but you can't do any looting. They are risking their lives and they should get paid for it.

    I checked your test version of TOEEFE Agetian. It still
    shoots the error, this time however the game launches
    when I click OK. :thumbsup:

    Now if only I could find out what causes it for you...
    OK, next time Il release a test version I'll include some extra debug codes which will make it easier for you to report things. Stay tuned.

    They do get paid...with healing, level advancement, purchased equipment, looted items, etc. It's just that with this fix, they can't do it willy-nilly & cause the problems which would've helped you decide to dump this game long ago...

    They are part of the group which is controlled by the player, not by the half-assed AI. They've got a stake in the million or so GP the PC's go through on this adventure.

    I'm working with 4.00b4.1 on a clean installation of ToEE+Co8 5.0.3+KotB and I can't make 0004 appear, no matter how hard I try to confuse the engine (well, of course if I push it very deeply it'll give out an error, but that's artificially done and can't occur by itself). Therefore, I'd recommend trying the new version out on a clean reinstallation of ToEE with all mods you want, per the installation instructions. If you'll still get an error, please report here, I'll ask for some extra info.

    I'm confused or missing something here. NPC's don't get anything unless you transfer/give it to them. They can't loot bodies or chests, and it's up to the player to decide what they do get. So what is the new proposal going to change?

    OK, wrapping up the results of beta phase: so far I haven't heard any problem reports for version 4.00beta4.1. Does it mean that this version doesn't cause any problems for those who didn't have any problems with 4.00beta4 and earlier versions of the front-end? I hope so.

    Within the next 48 hours I'll be compiling and releasing the final version of the ToEE Front-End (maybe it'll take a little longer if I get busy or something), so please take your time to do any final tests if you want. Unless any problems pop up for 4.00beta4.1, I'll be recompiling it as a final version of FE 4.0, otherwise I'll be compiling plain 4.00beta4.

    2c on SS's humble NPCs fix; sounds good to me how he's got it working if I understand correctly, NPCs don't loot and you have control over their inventories with the exception of certain flaged starting equipment.
