@cypress46: Thanks for a detailed report, dude - such reports are almost a model of how bug reports should be made! But anyway, though it may sound funny, your issue isn't a ToEE Front-End X problem either, though I know exactly why you started encountering the constant crashes after beginning to use ToEE Front-End X.

Basically you installed the v5.0.6 CMF mod patch incorrectly, especially given that you're using TFE-X (and it's not entirely your fault because, just like I'm always saying in the previous posts here, installation of v5.0.6 is risky, counter-intuitive, and is likely to cause you plenty of problems unless you know exactly what you're doing).

OK, even though you didn't make it 100% explicit in your report, but it looks like here's how you installed the mod:

    1. Installed the game.
    2. Installed the Co8-5.0.0 mod.
    3. Installed TFE-X, actually ran it, allowing it to convert the modules into the new TFE-X packaging format. Note that at this point the Co8-5.0.0 mod, since it's already converted into the new TFE-X format, is no longer compatible with any old-format data (such as the Co8-5.0.6 CMF because it's still redistributed in the old-style format).
    4. Installed the Co8-5.0.6 CMF, then ran TFE-X and converted it into the new TFE-X format, assuming that it'll automatically update your Co8-5.0.0 package with it (this is where you were wrong).

I may be wrong somewhere above, but I assume it was something like that because you mentioned that you had to run the "Convert older ToEEFE modules" feature in order to convert the Co8-5.0.6 mod patch, which is something you shouldn't have had to do.

Generally, what you did is you fed the old-style game data (the CMF 5.0.6 mod) to a new-style TFE-X v5.0.0 package, which is something that is guaranteed to give you constant headache.

The best TFE-X can do using the "Convert" feature is convert a *complete, fully patched* module into a new format. It was always designed to work that way and it's completely intentional (and for a good reason).

Now here's how you were supposed to install the 5.0.6 CMF taking what I just said into consideration:

    1. Install the game.
    2. Install the Co8-5.0.0 mod.
    3. Install the Co8-5.0.6 CMF.
    3. Install TFE-X and let it do the job.

Basically, patch the Co8-5.0.0 mod with the 5.0.6 CMF *before* installing TFE-X.

Then again, even if you did it all properly in the way I explained above, I can't guarantee that it's going to work fine because installing CMF 5.0.6 is generally a pain, and when it comes to the TFE-X conversion it's an even bigger pain because you have to take care of the fact that CMF 5.0.6 is a patch that is not in itself TFE-X-ready (so you may need further tweaking to get it to work). It may function fine with the older ToEE Front-End because it was designed for it (but the older ToEE Front-End is going to have issues, and a lot of issues, some of which are 5.0.6-specific), but even a slight mistake in packaging for TFE-X before the conversion takes place may render the mod non-operational with the new TFE-X.

Now I completely understand that it wasn't your fault either because the above-mentioned details are not announced, written, or discussed anywhere explicitly, but then again, that's why we're saying that 5.0.6 CMF is only for seasoned people who know their way around in ToEE and who are ready to face problems and consequences of using the CMF pack.

Sorry all that caused you so many problems. Generally you're advised to wait for probably just a few more days for a brand new release of the Circle of Eight 5.5.0 Modpack which will, among other things, address these installation and gameplay problems you're talking about. You can, of course, try reinstalling 5.0.0 with 5.0.6 CMF with the information above in mind, but it can't be guaranteed that doing that will fix all your problems. You can also try using 5.0.0 with 5.0.6 CMF and the older front-end (because the CMF pack was generally designed for the older front-end), but such an installation is no longer supported by the Circle of Eight team and the older front-end is known to have issues (including 5.0.6-specific issues), so it's probably not the best way out either.

I'd say just wait for the new Co8 5.5.0 modpack, if possible.

So install everything else, THEN install the new front. None of the cmf patches wil install properly after that.

Will the new front end convert the old Toffee mods?

Yes, the new front-end will convert any old Toffee mods, but once you convert them you can't import any old-style Toffee data into them anymore. Toffee-X has its own way of mod patching, called the "Add-on system" (the "Add-Ons" button), and that's completely different from the older Toffee CMF packs and other stuff like that.

Thanks! I appreciate the quick reply. I had a feeling it was going to be something like that after reading some of your earlier posts about how difficult the installation is. I guess I think I'll just wait for the next release, too many headaches already.

    Thanks.

    Silly question.

I have the CMF 5.0.6 installed and just installed FE - X. The updates to CMF still work with the new front end right? Installed the same way?

No, the old CMF updates won't work in the same way as soon as you upgrade your module to TFE-X, the new front-end requires CMF updates in new format (add-on packages). The upcoming Co8 modpack v5.5.0 will be fully TFE-X ready, with updates released in new format completely compatible with TFE-X.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Shout it from the rooftops!

Just wait for the new Co8 5.5.0 modpack.

Seriously people, we're talking about maybe a couple more days. Why put yourself through that torture when in such a short time you can be trouble-free?

Gaear, I thought you were a true believer. Why would you have to ask a silly question like that? :google:

I just installed the 3.0.4 mod with TFE-X and first time it ran it froze-up at the new/load game screen and had to power off and try again and it works. Everytime i've installed a mod it has done the same thing. It's like you have to restart before you play. Activate, then quit and restart. Then play and it doesn't freeze up. Just curious.

When you say the 3.0.4 mod, do you mean the regular one that TFE-X converts, or the new version that is a native TFE-X module? The conversion should still work, and I dare say Ag will have a lok at this, but you might also think about downloading the new native TFE-X version, its available HERE and shouldn't be too large (Co8 mods were teeny things back in thos days, but gave you a lot of bang for your buck ;))
