Me and my brother were wondering whether
it is possible to make a throwing weapon, let's
say an axe with infinite ammo, as the axes
in Baldur's Gate where the description said
that they come back to the wielder's hands after
being thrown. I was thinking of something like
a script that would delete the thrown weapon
after throwing it and respawning it in the wielder's
hands. This might make them more useful.

When a weapon is thrown in ToEE (whether it is a shuriken or dagger or anything else) the thrown weapon leaves the thrower's possession and is either added to the targets inventory (if the attack hit) or dropped on the floor (if the attack missed).

I know there is a problem with thrown shuriken, but I'm not sure how much of a problem there is with other thrown weapons if they are used for further crafting.

The main problem that occurs with shuriken however is this, when an enchanted shuriken is thrown it becomes a normal shuriken of that item type EG a Shuriken of Flame +2 when thrown becomes a Masterwork Shuriken again after it has either hit or missed. and picking it up again may turn all the others in the stack back to masterwork as well.

Ideally what your suggesting is a throwing axe that acts more like the shuriken than throwing a bunch of daggers, I doubt anyone here would consider implementing item that allows you to use an unlimited supply of throwing axes.

There are references if the games files suggesting the existence of returning weapons, but they were not implemented into the engine.

Well, by saying infinite ammo, I was thinking of the ability
of the weapon to come back to the wielder's hands. It
seemed to me like a work around, but I get it. Throwing
weapons are simply not worth enchanting. Too bad. :/

We might be able to write a script in it's san_hit and san _miss scripts to destroy and recreate itself in the possession of the wielder, but enchanting it would be pointless, as it would loose all abilities that had been crafted onto it.

What if we create a returning axe in protos.tab? It may not be furtherly enchantable, but it would be a cool thing to find.
