Wow, I'm quite impressed ! I've already seen Elmo looting (rather the message), but never imagined he could sell, too. Now I know what this message you mentioned means ...
(Elmo ist so far the only NPC in my party, which consists of 5 people without him.)

While it is quite nice to have NPCs sell stuff, since they can't in most games, it was necessary for ToEE. If an NPC fills their pack with leather boots and gloves, how will they empty the pack? When an NPC loots an item, they WON'T let you take it. It sits there forever. This can be quite annoying if they are encumbered with stuff and won't drop it. So, they need to be able to sell stuff, to empty their packs.

Obviously, they never sell starting equipment. If you need an NPC to drop starting equipment, you can "break" the lock by having the NPC die.

Or, you can use mods. I recommend it.

There's actually a patch here that corrects this single issue, without any other added content to the game, it's called Humble NPCs. Look for it on the forum. There's one version for Atari Patch 1 (& patch 2, I guess) and one for Atari patch 3, if I got it right. Npcs won't be collecting chainmails and boots anymore and will give you everything you want, if you want. That's all it does!

And of course, if you install the Co8 mod, it's included inside. ;)

Thanks. :) Another great addition. ;)

Maybe one day I'll try the whole Co8 mod, but right now I'll just stick with the translated version, which makes things easier for me to understand and learn. ;)

    *bows* ;)

I've accidentally found some kind of solution for that NPCs looting - problem : Just don't ! ;) :D

What I mean is the following : In my case, my party had to withdraw after a big fight, partly because of low health, partly because they had looted so much and the inventories were full. ;)

The party came a few days later back to that point where the fight had taken place, and the bodies of the slain enemies had just disappeared. Only their former belongings were laying there.

At that point, when I commanded my character to pick up these items, I got no message of NPCs looting ! Elmo just seemed to ignore the mere artifacts lying there on the floor.

I can't confirm that, but I think it could be possible to use this method to prevent NPCs to loot too much. Just let the corpses rot. NPCs - that's my assumption - seem to ignore mere artifacts lying on the floor.

Of course you can't do that when the party is attact during an overland journey. Because you can't come back there later (but maybe it is possible to let the party rest long enough until the corpses are gone, too ?).

That is an option Alrik, but not one I recommend. While you can come back after 72 hours (3 days) to get items, it is possible to miss some things this way. The game only displays large items, small items will be there but there won't be an icon for them. Thus, valuable things like keys and gems can be missed because the area "looks" empty. But if you s-l-o-w-l-y move the cursor over the area, their names may appear.

To get an idea of what I mean, try killing random monsters in a river. Even knowing where the bodies are, see how difficult it is to find them by only moving the mouse (since you can't see the bodies underwater). Then realize that it's even harder to find things that are smaller than bodies. I am always afraid that I will miss something if I let bodies decay, so I always loot immediately, whether I have NPCs or not.

I know. Daggers for example are hardly ever displayed (only a very small and fragile structure), and things that lie around a corner can only be taken by klicking onto a blueish shimmering ring hinting towards the position.

Short question . What happens with NPCs who I ask to leave the party (for example in Hommlet) ? Do they disappear altogether ?

Now I've got Elmo and Serena in my party, and I guess my party is full now. But I'd like to recruit other NPCs over the time, if possible.

Why don't you save your game and make experiments when you wonder about stuff like that? ;)

Most Npcs - Elmo, SPugnoir, Burne, Furnok, etc - will just wait where you left them, or go to their homes, and will be glad to join again if offered. Even a lot of times, it would seem...

Other react differently. Fruella just won't leave. Monster characters (there are some you can recruit!) will probably attack you if you tell them to leave...

About looting, remember to press the TAB key, it highlights items you can interact with - loot, doors, containers.

Okay, I actually thought about that ;) , but since I'm saving & reloading a lot, I thought I'd ask those who know the game far better than me first. ;)

This is exactly what i wanted to know ! :) Thanks ! :)

I've already read a lot about Fruella here (her name sounds like a friut juice or a fruit yoghurt to me ;) ) , and I'm already a bit curious how and who she will be.

    Don't talk ! I want to find out first ! ;)

What I often ask myself is this :

If there's a temple of elemental evil ...

... dooes this mean there's a temple of elemental good as well ? ...

And how would a module look like - with storylines for both evil and good groups ?

Not in this game, and not in the module it was based upon either.
While good groups will seek to destroy evil where ever they find it...
Neutral groups will seek to restore the ballance...
And evil groups will do thier best to gain wealth and power for themselves without caring about either those who they need to destroy to get it, or the consequenses for the rest of the world should they gain it.

Evil groups can join the temple, destroy the temple (because of greed), or be in charge of the temple at the end of the game. Considering that evil groups want wealth and power above all things, it's perfectly within thier alignment to play the game with these concepts in mind.

    Hello again.

I'm doing the quest about Mona's Ball (my sister has the same name :) ), but that Mickey doesn't appear where he should, according to the walkthrough at Gamebanshee.

Did I do something wrong ? Or is that wandering man there (not Preston) in fact the one the party's looking for ?

He should show up at night. Go into any building or travel, then check again after dark.
