When you come to this site.. http://www.co8.org/forum/index.php You can clearly see a "Downloads" forum, followed by a "ToEE-FE 4.01" thread This definitely gives the wrong impression to people who come here looking for Co8 latest works..
That is one one of the latest works. The ToEEFE is at version 4.0.1. The KotBFE is at version 5.0.0.I actually included the 4.0.1 ToEEFE in the new CMF pack as standard since the installer comes bundled with the outdated 3.8.0 version.
Thanks for your quick reply. I'm currently downloading your 5.0.5 CMF, I guess I will start over again.. I already have restarted several times, I had a few weak arse parties, then after I got rolling I had the secret door bug.. This time I'll just patch my group to level 3 so that I don't have to struggle so much in the moathouse.. ugh.. Guess it's time to reinstall ToEE so I don't have the secret door bug again and or whatever else can come bite my ass after playing for several hours..
I think some of the confusion here is that people are not differentiating the version numbers of the various builds of some Co8 works. It is important to understand that ToEEFE (the Front End) is different than the Co8 Mod (though ToEEFE is included in the Co8 5.0 mod.) ToEEFE exists in multiple versions, including the 3.8 version in the Co8 5.0 mod installer, the 4.01 version is the newest version available for ToEE and it's mods, and if I'm not mistaken, KOTB ships with FE version 5.0 - right, Ted? The newest Co8 mod for ToEE is 5.0, with the 5.0.4 (and now 5.0.5 - thanks, Allyx) CMF. The CMFs are various fixes and extras added to the 5.0 mod, but are pretty much beta tests and are not standardized add-ons to the Co8 mod. When Co8 releases the 6.0 mod, which probably won't happen for a while, it will likely include all the changes from the CMFs as well as the TOTWC rebalancing work Allyx is doing.
Yes, thanks for the sensible overview, Erkper. Interesting also that krunch and dragonalumni seem to have illustrated that we have an outdated ToEEFE still being distributed in 5.0.0. I never realized that, although it shouldn't have been hard to figure, so thanks guys. That (and the associated likelihood of .pyc files not getting deleted after patches/updates are installed) may go a long way toward explainaing a lot of the stability problems we've been getting reports on of late, including all the Nulb crashes. Maybe we should issue a real-for-sure patch to 5.0.0 with ToFFEE 4.1 in it.
The frontend 4.0.1 is included in the new 5.0.5 CMF as standard Gaear, non-toffee users will get the new frontend (but will not be able to access it with their standard desktop link) same as everyone else.
Thanks for doing that, Allyx [EDIT] ...and explains the number of times people were asked to uninstall and reinstall the game [including delete the remaining files after uninstalling] due to the wierdness.
Allyx, Thanks tons for the new CMF, I'm going to finish up my current game and then install and try it out. Question: Is there a link to a thread somewhere giving any details on this TotWC project you mentioned? If it is what I -think- it is, it sounds excellent and what the game needs most right now, but I don't want to make any assumptions. Qwinn
Have a read through this thread it should provide some insight as to what is planned for the future of the ToEE mod (It'll also kill some time while we are all patiently waiting for KotB to upload).
That can also be explained by people saying "reinstall the game! delete your .pyc files!" in answer to every single problem, whether the advice is necessary or not. Just to clear things up, I have spoken to Ag and no, ToEEFE 5 has not been released publically, my mistake there. However the differences there have to do with functionality, not stability: I am quite certain that if the later versions were more stable Ag would have publically released them. On the contrary, it was to prevent instability that new versions weren't publically released immediately but first given a testing regimen in the KotB development area. And they work fine Great news about the new CMF Al!
