The Cumulative Fixes in post 4 of this thread have been updated with:

    - rufnredde's Orc Cave Prespawn Fix

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

    Hello!

First of all: thanks for what you are doing and have done for us players.

I thought that the least I could do to help was to leave some simple feedback.

I have installed Co8 5.0.0 Beta 1 plus the cumulative patch updated to the 24th of June.

I installed the very interesting component Shop Map and for few pieces of gold I got to buy a circlet called Rogue Helm which boosts tremendously many rogue skills (+15). Either it's not meant to give anything like that or it was really underpriced. Do you think I can consider it a bargain or a bug ?

Also I had later installed separately Agetian's Sorted Sector files before they were included in the latest cumulative fixes. Well...When I tried starting a new game (clicked on the button "Begin adventure") I experienced a systematic QTD.

I remade a new install without those Sorted Sector files and it worked fine again.

There are two places in Hommlet where my rogue detects two traps (one at the inn and one at the leatherman's house). There is no interactive object to deal with though.

So far that's all...I hope I have been of slight help. Thanks!

The traps are just the shopkeepers' inventories showing up, don't worry about it :)

Hmm, I just tried it and I experience no problems so far. Is someone else getting this? Can someone confirm or disapprove this, and possibly provide some more information? I can't reproduce it so far so it's impossible for me to work on whatever may be causing this bug (if it is caused by the sector files of course).

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

I just retried it on a scratch installation of Co8-5.0.0 (installed my sector files separately first and tested them in-game, everything went fine), and then on an installation of Co8-5.0.0 with the latest set of cumulative fixes (with the sector files included). No problems at all, no CTDs or anything. I need more feedback here to see if there's a real problem out there somewhere or if it's Sulk's installation mistake.

I have it installed and have tested it and no CTD's for me. That's for the Hommlet Exterior map only correct? or Did you sort all the maps Ag, cause I have had the doors not show up on both the Moathouse Interior and Exterior in the past.

I sorted all maps that had custom sector files in them, so the disappearing statics shouldn't be an issue anymore (hopefully ;)).

P.S. I keep testing and get no CTDs or other problems. Works fine for me.

I installed the latest CF this AM and have played for about 4hrs -- no CTDs or irregularities period. It seems to work fine in my hands.

Now I have downloaded the latest Cumulative Fixes pack which includes Agetian's Sorted Sector files and I can normally beging adventuring with no quit to desktop whatsoever.

I have no idea why I have experienced that problem when I installed them separately. I don't go messing with files and directories so it will remain a mistery to me but I am very happy now to report instead that everything works fine (save the before mentioned problems with a powerful circlet sold for 7 pieces of gold). :largeclap

I'm glad you sorted your problem out, whatever it was. :)

As far as that circlet goes - yeah, I'm aware of its existence and it's actually been around since like Co8 4.0.0 or so, and I find it to be outward cheating, but I'm not sure what other people's position on it may be. I'm not even sure who modded this thing and what was he thinking when he did. Maybe a testing item? Anyway, definitely too powerful to be sold for cheap in the beginning of the game.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

Did that thing get back into the Shop Map?

The Rogue's Helm (originally called the Sorcerer's Helm - I changed the name because it seemed suited more for a rogue) is supposed to be a testing tool, and I thought I had removed it from the Shop Map. I will have to check again.

Kalshane removed most of its bonuses in his fix, but I re-instated them because it is such a useful testing tool. But it definitely should not be for sale.

Thank you, Salk, for bringing this to our attention.

It looks to me like you guys have a creditable product - one that's ready for the old version-number-increment tango. I've been playing with a clean install since Sunday night. New game, cumulative fixes, and the Ron voice-pack, and I am LOVING it!

Great effort - I never actually finished the game before, but I'm all set to try on this one!

    Thanks again

That avatar of yours is downright disturbing...makes this guy look normal by comparison.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

It's me who thank you Cerulean and all the rest of the crew for giving us such a great product! Thanks to Agetian for checking out my report and confirming it was just an isolated case coming from my computer.

By the way, I'd like to ask you a small OT thing and it is in regard of items like Helms, Boots, Bracers and Shields. Okay...What do these items really do in the game ? I mean...I read their description and they don't give any protection. Also there are metal and wood versions for each of them. Estetically speaking they are different of course but have they an active role in the game (I am a TOEE novice and I am not so accustomed to the DD 3.5 rules) ? I didn't find any reference in the manual about that.

Also, one more question if you please: in my directory "Players", I have some text files associated to some of my PC and I would like to know what they are for and if they're needed. Since I installed and reinstalled several times the game and wanted to test every installation with my party, I moved all the six .TOEEPC files which must obviously represent my characters but there are also some that have a text file called with the name of the character itself. Do you perhaps know what they are good for ?

I also wanted just to tell you what I think is very good in TOEE (overall a great RPG) and what I think is not so good (I mainly compare it to my all time favourite Baldur's Gate, another CRPG heavily and successfully modded):

    + Overall Presentation
    + Rules system
    + Turn based combat
+ Creation of up to 5 PC (I have 6 - my ideal number - thanks to you!)
+ Animations and graphic (especially indoors)
+ Different ending and beginning sequences according to Party Alignment!

    - Dialogues are weak and badly structured
    - The quests are often so so (at least so far in my game)
    - It lacks a sense of "epic" and some "atmosphere"
    - The music (especially if I compare it to BG) is average
    - Weak item descriptions

    Thanks again!
