    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

Having finished the game, I've been running through with a LN party. Made a druid with Augment Summoning, which has been a load of fun. There's just something about unleashing a horde of unusually tough bears on people.

In any case, I can't get Jayfie to appear in the Laborer Camp. I've accepted the quest from Burne, but no matter what time of night I check the camp, he's not there. I had no problems finding him my first time through 5.0. I'm wondering if one of the cumulative fixes might have accidently "broken" him.

Also, I realized this morning I screwed up with Darley. As she's a human with a template applied, she should still get her human bonus feat and bonus skills. I'll fix that tonight.

Artefact is a United Kingdom version spelling of the USA spelled word artifact. It's not misspelled, it just has a British flavor to its spelling.

Nothing I can find in the Cumulative Fixes touches Jayfie. In fact, the only thing that relates to him at all in 5.0.0 is some script changes that were in 4.0.0. I noticed it took a few tries before he appeared for my my first time through. Have you checked at the work site during the day as well? You can talk to him there too.

Really? Huh. I checked there once, way back in the day, didn't see him, and just assumed he was never there. I'll have to do that.

@kalshane: I've had this same thing happen [but he was never there], and if I would click the pass time option in the near vicinity of where Jayfie would spawn at the construction site, the game would CTD. I got the same kind of response from Blue and Ted.

[EDIT] To fix this, I did not uninstall anything. What I did was I deleted the most recent save game at the time when I had accepted the quest and was playing that part of the game for the beta test...I downloaded/installed a new copy of the updates. I don't know what fixed it, but as I recall, the issue did not happen, again, afterwards.

About Jayfie I took a look at the code, Jayfie isn't a spawned creature, he is mobbed in by Troika and is untouched by any of the Co8 mods (as CtB stated below). Other than a minor script fix. He executes out of a dat file out of the original game not any of the modded files that go into the fixes.

If he is broken which is entirely possible. It is not probable that any Co8 mod has anything to do with it.

That is why your not getting alot of help on the subject, no one knows why he isn't working in your game, because they cannot reproduce the bug. I have all the fixes installed and tried starting a new game and he shows up in my game. Hope this helps your perspective on the situation.

I found in the daytime over at the construction site. Never could get him to show up in the camp at night. Oh, well, at least I was able to find him.

Something is definitely goofy with the AI in regards to missile weapons, though. I just did the broken tower fight and some (not all) of the brigand crossbowmen and archers decided to switch to the melee weapons and jump into combat instead of plinking from a distance. (My first time through my sorcerer won iniative and took out a bunch of guys with a fireball right off the bat, so I didn't notice if it was happening. This time my wizard got silenced right away.)

I also fought the Earth Temple Guards that were doing the same thing and they're not any more (which I'm assuming is because CB took away their melee weapons.) However, they're not 5-foot stepping when they have room to and are instead triggering AOOs by attacking with the crossbows in melee. *shrugs* Seems like we can't win.:scratchhe

The whole AI/strategy thing is very screwy sometimes. I've been noticing these things on and off since Liv's mod came out. It could be her modifications to the strategy.tab, or it could be something else, or it could just be the game being it's normal unstable self. I will continue to work towards finding the cause and the solution, but until we truly understand how strategy.tab works (and I think Liv had the best understanding of that monstrosity of anyone) I don't hold out much hope.

Did I mention I tested this some more? Couldn't get Krunch's CTD to replicate.

    RE: Jayfie.

the CTD some of you are experiencing could be caused by the last Verbobonc update I uploaded. I took the Viscount out of both of his area's and added him again with a propper day/night transfer (like I did with Prince Zook and Lerrik) it is possiblr that the changes I made with the daynight.nxd file coupled with a save from before the changes are responsible for the CTD. As it hasn't been replicated since I think that may be what caused it, but then again I could be wrong.

I was only able to find him at the castle construction site... otherwise the information exchange worked fine

Krunch reported the CTD long before you changed the day/night transfer, Allyx. I took a look at that file just to be on the safe side, and Jayfie doesn't use it (since he doesn't change maps). He just has day and night standpoints defined. His MOB has not been touched by anything Co8 has done, so I don't know why this is happening.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

    Bugs/Weirdness:

Rescued the Merchants with Pirate boy. Talked to one, there was no mention of Verbebonc and they all disappeared. Last time through there was a half dozen in the room, each who could take me to Verbebonc, which seemed excessive, but it's weird that none of them can take you now. Wasn't sure if this was intentional.

Got to Verbebonc via Jenna. Viscount stayed inside the city hall, or whatever it was, rather than moving to his home at night.

When speaking to Viscount, when I tell him we are adventurers, his dialogue is blank. One of my options is something along the lines of "What's the problem, my lord." at which point he gives me the weather quest as normal.

Had way too much stuff, so I decided to give Extraplanar Chest a try. Read the instruction note. Filled chest up with items that weren't illegal according to note. Used the radial menu option to what I assumed would send the chest away. Instead, a 2nd chest appeared. I scratched my head, activated the chest again from the radial menu and it went away, but my original chest was still sitting on the ground. I shrugged and went on with the game. Got back to Homlett, summoned the chest so as to sell my loot and it was empty except for the note.

The final battle in Verbebonc was again way too easy. I did things "right" this time and went straight to the 1st level of the Temple instead of going into the 3rd level. Cleared the 1st level of the dungeon and then made my way to Verbebonc. My party of 5 still hit level 9 going through the Verbebonc dungeon and took down the main baddy in the third round. Baddy never got around to doing anything that actually hurt me. Some of the previous fights were tougher, though. I would recommend against using the "Ready vs. Approach" AI action, as it's far too easy to just plink the NPCs using it with missiles and spells while they stand around forever waiting for you to get close until they die.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

Those traders were never meant to take you to Verbobonc, I used the sad/heroic merchants to be the traders in Verbobonc and it seems Troika had other plans for them in the 1st level of the temple but either never got around to finishing it, or scrapped the idea in favour of Ted Ed nad Ed. It sounds to me like that room is working as it should now.
I'll look into it, but last time I tested he transfered propperly.
I'll look into that too, I think both of these problems are related - his dialogue has a lot of is_daytime and not_is_daytime prerequisites in it.
Was that the dragon, Scarlet Brotherhood, Viscount, or the Drow matriarch?

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

    Okay. Was just making sure.

The Dragon. Sorry, was trying to be non-spoilery.

I had no idea you were supposed to fight the Viscount. Everyone in town says the same thing over and over again once you finish the drow and dragon quests, so I didn't think there was much more to do after you kill the dragon. I killed the Scarlet Brotherhood and the Hextorites on general principle (well, the Brotherhood leader did insult my rogue) but didn't find any real story reason to attack them or anyone else in town.

One thing I did notice was I talked to Nybble before I talked to Prince Zook and Nybble gave me a key to the door. Last time I talked to Prince Zook in city hall first and when I later talked to Nybble he didn't give me a key, so I had lockpick my way into the dungeon, which I thought was a little odd. :)
