    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

Hello. First of all, I am using the Co8 5.0 beta and I keep coming here to find the cumulative fixes for it and I see them mentioned all the time but I cannot find where to download them? Where are the cumulative fixes found at for the 5.0 beta? please post it for me. Also, when i try to make a new game and create characters, every time I get to the part where I pick their portrait the game freezes on me. I click on portraits and then I freeze up and have to reboot. What's wrong? Will the cumulative fixes fix this? Or can I just choose the regular ToEE in theToEEFF and create the characters and them play them with the co8? Thanks in advance. I really want to download those cumulative fixes but can't seem to find where to : (

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

OK, now I'm having another problem, I have the cumulative updates and I'm not real sure on where to put them exactly. I noticed in the Atari folder in the temple of elemental evil that there's a Data Folder, A Data.ToEE folder and a modules folder with the C085.0 folder. And in the cumulative fixes there's a data and a modules folder. Do I just copy and paste those two into the root directory of ToEE or do I need to open them and cut and paste what's in them to where they go? And if so, does the data folder in the fixes go in the normal Data folder in the root directory and the stuff in the modules folder go in the MOdules/c085.0 folder or what? Please help. Thlanks

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

If 5.0.0 was the last module you ran. No worries just extract the cumlative fixes into the c:\program files\atari\temple of elemental evil -folder.

That is the ToEE root directory and the directory structure is preserved in the fixes so everything will extract into the proper place.

The data.toee folder is where the original game data folder has been renamed and stored if you put anything in there you will screw everything up.

To fix the problem you are having with character creation. After you have extracted the fixes as above. Start the Front end select the 5.0.0 module and change the portrait pack to anything but all portraits, start the game, as soon as it loads up quit, don't do anything else just quit the game.

Then start the frontend, select 5.0.0 go to the portrait packs select all portraits. start the game and everything should work. Play away

OK, I did exactly what u told me to and it no longer freezes on the portraits but now almost allof the portraits are replaced by little mouse pointer symbols and the few portraits that are there are all messed up when u click on them. Instead of showing the portrait that I click on, it shows like a small portion of it that's all brown or all blue, it's like the picture is being blown out of size and instead of showing the whole picture, it's only showing a small part of it. Any ideas?

Easy enough to test, just launch Co8 4.0.0 in toffee and see if you have the tagline.

OR open data.Co8.4.0.0 look in art/interface/main_menu_ui and view the first tga. If there are no tga's, or they don't have the tagline, the fixes must have gone somewhere else. You should be OK as long as 5.0.0 is the last module you ran. As runfredde pointed out the last module run is the current "data" folder.

One posibility that could be messing things up. You launch tofee it selects 4.0.0 by default, starts moving files around, you select 5.0.0 and launch the game before it's finished putting all the files back. Allyx told me about that issue when I had messed up my game that way, it takes toffee about 10 sec. to switch modules, if you launch before then you'll be missing files. Probably safest to just switch 5.0.0 to the default, otherwise count to 10 before you launch.

Well, i played around with it for a bit and the only way I can get all of the portraits and not just portraits of a mouse pointer are to set the portraits to original instead of all so I went ahead and did that. That won't hurt anything will it. I just want to make sure I'm playing the 5.0 and choosing that option won't disable anyting.

Thanks for all of the help throught the years you'll. I remember when I first came here, it was right after I first bought the game and the game was so full of bugs that I looked for a patch and I think Atari had just put out it's patch 1 and then I ran across the CO8 site. Alot has changed throughout the years but one thing's stayed the same, CO8's dedication to this game. I remember when I first came here, one of the main guys, I'm not sure if he's still here or not anymore and I don't remember his name but he had to hack into most of the game and the first few people were really good at hacking into it and making changes. I don't know if you'll are still able to do that or not. It's just something I thought was cool that I remembered.

I also remember that one of, if not the Lead Designer who made this game was working on his off time to fix alot of the bugs and problems in ToEE and he was pretty upset because he wanted more testing time for the game but the Company forced the game out too early and didn't even give him a fraction of the time that he needed to have it all tested properly so he spent alot of his own time fixing various things and contributed to CO8 alot back then. If he's still here then that's awesome, if not then I give my thanks to him. I think he was also working on the Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines at that time. I may be wrong but I seem to recall something like that so he didn't have alot of free time to put into it but he still did alot.

Well, since those early days, the days of Fix pack 1 to the new 5.0 you all have continued to do excellent work. From the first guys to the newest members. I want to thank you all. You've taken a great game and made it what it even better than what it should have been upon release. Without you all I probably would have thrown ToEE in the trash a long time ago. I started playing right when you all put the Brothel back in the game and was having a blast, there were some probems and some things I did not like but I loved the combat and it kept me hooked and then something bad happened.

I installed DirectX 9.0 and could no longer loot or open doors. So I quit playing. This was before you all fixed that. I remember that you could go into combat mode to loot or something like that which I did for a bit but I got to a part where I couldn't even open doors and had to quit. I've been looking around for a new rpg to play when I stumbled back upon my ToEE game so I came here and found out that not only had the DirectX loot bug been fixed but that you all had done SO much more work since then. Adding so many new and great things and it got me excited about this game once more. I guess what I'm saying is, without you'll I wouldn't even still have the game much less be looking forward to playing it now. Well, it's time for me to go. I have a Temple to Conquer. Wish me luck. Thanks everyone at CO8. : ) :doublethu

Cuchulainn was replying to Gaear about his question, that's why he quoted him.

If you don't have Portrait and Voice pack installed (which is a separate download) you need to use the Original File. So you did it right.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

I was bored, so I went back and fixed Darley to be a simple half-fiend sorcerer instead of a cludged demon/sorcerer. Dropped her down to her original ToEE stats, swapped her Intelligence and Charisma, applied the half-fiend template and adjusted her skills, feats, CR and saves to reflect the loss of her outsider hitdice. Unfortunately the fun stuff of her template, like smite good and her spell-like abilities don't show up the radial menu when you recruit her. I also gave her average hitpoints for a 10th level sorcerer, so you don't have wierdness with her hitpoints randomly changing when she shifts from human to demon form.

Maybe one of these days I'll write an AI for her.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that Troika very obviously used Charisma Carpenter for her portrait?

Download and extract to the ToEE root directory.

[EDIT by Cerulean the Blue] This is included in the Cumulative Fixes.

Never noticed. Why they'd use a Klingon bitch is beyond me.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

The link for the Cumulative fixes is found at the bottom of the same post that the link for Co8 5.0.0 is found. That would be post number 4 of this thread.

As stated in that thread, the Cumulative Fixes will indeed solve the hang during character creation, as well as a host of other things listed in that thread.

Now, I don't want to sound harsh here, but this is a bug hunting thread for a beta release. 5.0.0 is not yet ready for the general public. If you can't understand the instructions for the Cumulative Fixes, then you are probably better off waiting for the final version. This thread is already starting to get too cluttered with support hand holding, and I am having to wade through it to find the actual bug reports and fixes.

I noticed Krunch linked 5.0.0 beta in the ToEE forum. It is my opinion that that is unwise at this time. It was my understanding that the beta was for internal release only. Of course, it doesn't help that certain esteemed modders cannot seem to keep straight who is playing 4.0.0 and who is playing 5.0.0.:poke:

If someone thinks I'm being too harsh, then please by all means start a support thread for 5.0.0 beta and I will move the relevant posts to that thread.

This sounds like a case of someone installing the first version Cuchulainn posted over the top of the second version.

I just re-installed the latest Cumulative Fixes and re-tested. The Dire Bear and Dire Boar pics have definitely been fixed. I would suggest downloading a installing the Cumulative Fixes again. I will change the description of the Orb.

    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

The Cumulative Fixes have been updated with:

ShiningTed's update for Ronald the Cleric, including his improved ability scores (which will not take effect if Ronald is in the party).

ShiningTed's two new weapons (console only) and their masterwork versions, as detailed in another thread.

    Kalshane's Darley rework.

Sorry, that's all. I've had an exhausting day and I'm too tired to mod. If anyone else feels like changing the Vrock strategy to make it do the Spore thing earlier, please do. I don't think I'm going to get to it for quite a while.
