    Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread

The elven chain in ToEE is actually magical. It's just implemented weirdly. The assorted elven chains are basically magical mithral chainmail with additional reduced spell failure chances. Green elven chain is mithral chainmail+1, purple is +2 and blue is +3.

Don't even get me started on what's wrong with the great cleaver.

Caster Level is not a requirement for creating items, it is used for determining item effects and how hard an item is to dispel for randomly generated treasure. But that's another debate.

@Blue: Please add each of the Drow and also the Adult Dragon pics from the portrait pack to be included in the default install package for Co8 5.0.0 MOD, please?

When you let me know they have been added, I'll delete this post from the thread. Thanks!..

@Blue: PM me if you have any questions. I'll respond.

    >The elven chain in ToEE is actually magical.

Ok, but in TOEE, Detect Magic says otherwise. And the green elven chain is behaving differently than the other colors of elven chain, with respect to how identification works. Therefore at least one of these armors is bugged.

I think you are right that it is magical, though. Most armor including the standard Elven Chain is non-magical unless it has an enhancement bonus of at least +1:
    http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/magicItemsAW.html
Since Green Elven Chain has an AC > 4, IIRC, it's at least +1.

    >Caster Level is not a requirement for creating items.

Huh? It definitely is. For example, to craft a +1 weapon, you need CL 3; for a +2 weapon, you need CL 6, etc. And this stands for caster level, not character level: adding levels of Fighter doesn't help a Wizard craft items. Furthermore, if you have 5 levels of Cleric and 5 levels of Wizard then your maximum CL is only 5, not 10. (The only class I'm aware of that allows you to build both divine and arcane caster levels up at the same time is Mystic Theurge.)

Update: see here for details about the importance of caster level:
    http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/magicItemsCreation.html
"The creator’s caster level must be at least three times the enhancement bonus of the weapon."

    Also,
    http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/magicItemsPRR.html:
"Viper: This rod strikes as a +2 heavy mace. Once per day, upon command, the head of the rod becomes that of an actual serpent for 10 minutes. During this period, any successful strike with the rod deals its usual damage and also poisons the creature hit. The poison deals 1d10 points of Constitution damage immediately (Fortitude DC 14 negates) and another 1d10 points of Constitution damage 1 minute later (Fortitude DC 14 negates). The rod only functions if its possessor is evil.

Moderate necromancy; CL 10th; Craft Rod, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, poison, creator must be evil; Price 19,000 gp."

Thanks for the documentation, Haywood. I'll handle these. I'm actually thinking of doing a thorough dialogue to mp3 comparison of all recorded lines in the game, although the task is kind of daunting. We'll see.

Enhancement bonuses are a special case which is clearly spelled out in the rules.

Look at the formating there. There is a semi-colon between the caster level and the requirements. Or are you suggesting that a caster must also radiate an aura of Moderate Necromancy in order to create the item?

    ETA:

    Some more "bugs":

The medium earth elementals in the altar area of the Earth Temple function as large size (10' reach, their stat breakdowns show a size modifier, etc) but otherwise have the stats of a medium elemental. They need to be "shrunk". The large elemental is fine. (Though I think the earth elementals as whole could have their model size scaled down a bit. The medium elementals are much bigger than PCs and the large one seems even bigger than that.)

Some of the Earth Temple Guards south of Romag's room were attacking me with daggers instead of the longswords and heavy crossbows they were equipped with.

The Amulet of Natural Armor+1 and Amulets of Mighty Fists+1 I picked up in Verbebonc show up by name in inventory, but have to be IDed (much like the green elven chain) before their correct price is displayed instead of just showing up as "magic amulet". Also, they can be stacked inside the inventory (though not with each other) which shouldn't be the case for magical amulets.

Let's not start the whole Caster Level debate again, at least not in this thread. Take it to another thread if you want to debate it.

Most "Detect" spells are bugged in ToEE.

That can be implemented in ToEE but (last time I checked) the general consensus of members of the forum, was to leave it as is for the time being.

As I made some of these items (based on 3.0 rules) to begin with, I don't mind if the prices are changed to reflect thier 3.5 counterparts, but I would ask that someone else do the work involved as I'm busy bug hunting in Verbobonc.

Another bad on my part. Those portraits have been added to the Cumulative Fixes. When 5.0.0 is out of beta stage all the Cumulative Fixes will become part of the default installation package, but not until.

The Cumulative Fixes have been updated.

I thought there were a few items (like Wand of Stoneskin) that had problems until I realized that wands only have 20 charges instead of 50, which will affect the price. So I had to throw out a lot of bugs that I had written down. Also I'm not sure how many charges the Staves have.

I think the CL issue is confusing so I'll drop it for now. The SRD and FAQ conflict IMHO. The SRD implies that you need a CL equal or greater than the item CL. The FAQ seems to establishes a different creator CL, except in the unusual circumstances of using another item or a high-level caster to provide the required spells.

I am sorry if my posts are boring but I'm just trying to help.

I didn't mean to cause offense, your bug lists are really appreciated, we all want a more rules compliant game, but quoting a bunch of links to SRD pages didn't seem all that important, I put in the quote (edited quite a but) to demonstrate which part of your post I was refering to.

ran through Verbobbonc (literally) with a party of lvl 7-9 and finished in about 45 minutes... was there anymore than working through to the end of the tunnel.... of course I cleaned up the inn and all of the npc's that were not vendors (except for the magic lass... would have loved to pilfered some scrolls from the room also)... otherwise it did add to the game and filled the story line out..

Oh, that reminds me. The assassin leader insulted me. A fight resulted. His buddies outside the door didn't blink an eye as I carved him apart and were completely friendly and polite when I spoke to them afterwards.
Uh, is that supposed to happen?

Oh, I fixed the Thorned Chain of Love too. It should now show up as a Radiant Spiked Chain before you identify it. I think this got into the last update, but maybe not. It will be in the next one for sure.

I also noticed that the last monster (name unmentioned) was too high on the screen and it's weapon was out of alignment with the line of fire.
