This isn't really the right thread for that discission, the IWD mod has it's own forum here at Co8, but basically, I originally started the IWD mod to see if it was possible to port those Infinity Engine games into ToEE's engine, it is, and it works great. Please try it out for yourself and post your feedback. ToEE has a far better combat engine for turnbased D&D games IMO, selecting the creatures affected by that Fireball spell becomes a precise placement as opposed to guesswork at who will still be in the selected area when the spell fires, advanced tactical combat (tripping, readying actions vs approach/spellcasting, 5'steps to avoid AoO's) become viable tactical options.
Well, by reading the thread it seems that the question was asked if IWD could be converted and things took off from there the conversation is why I got IWD:EE to play and I like it and am looking forward to seeing the differences in play Hmmm, I too started DnD at the ripe old age of 12 in 1979
@Shiningted You'll be pleased to know I've completed most of the KotB mod (Good aligned party). Cleared out the Kobolds in the Caves of Chaos, was smashing Goblins until the Ogre apeared... the Mad Wizard was fun, and splashing the Druid shrine with unholy water for a surprise undead fest was amazing, lots of fun, hope to finish the Caves soon.
Kewl Can I be ridiculous and ask that you send my dialogue converter back to me? I lost the original in the death of my hard drive.
Yup sure, I've sent an upload to my onedrive and linked it for you and anyone else who might want it below. Edit: the converter is linked here. Oh, by the by, it has been reported that the " - " character is messed up in the dialogues in the IWD game, I probably broke the font file myself, playing with things that should be left alone, but that is kinda what I do here.
Thanks Al. Now I have to get IWD itself going, since that got swallowed when my hard drive went down <sigh>.
Ha! I've actually been playing through KotB the last few weeks, just as an ordinary prole player with a very mediocre party of unimpressive characters (3PC / 4NPC). Much fun, but also lots of tiny little bugs (things getting mentioned out of order, or not disappearing after being dealt with, that sort of thing. Some pathfinding issues too). Anyways, to confirm one bug people kept reporting and I kept banning them for doing so - Cerulean's Balm is actually bugged! Ha! What would happen was, people would report it as bugged, I would power up the game, give someone a jar, try it, and it would work fine. I would curse for 9 minutes and get on with life. The problem is, the jar you get in the game is unidentified. And since it doesn't come with an unidentified name (a la unidentified Keotogm's Ointment - 'magic salve' or 'unknown balm' or 'mysterious ointment' or whatever the appropriate sobriquet would be) you would have no way of even realising this was the problem. Sure had me stumped. But - if you get it identified, it works fine, There you go. Moral of the story? I'm back at it
Greetings, all! I was curious whether to get the current version (seemingly 1.0.1) or wait for another version soon to come. I read here that the patch is a notable improvement over its previous version, but the only KotB patch I found was 1.0.1 which has been publically available for about 4 years.
As far as I know, that is the current version. Ted was doing a little work on it a short while back, but nothing new has been released yet.
After several years, I have decided to run through KotB again. I downloaded the add on, but I cannot seem to get the Front End to add it on.
Ooo, it's been a while... Florian1, can I suggest you just download the 1.0.1 mod as is and activate it. If I remember correctly, the patch was a left over for people running 1.0.0, you shouldn't need it for 1.0.1. EDIT: Ok, the fact that it installs as an add-on for 1.0.0 is a bit of a giveaway that I am right, but I forced it to install and can't see any differences between 1.0.1 and the patched version. It's hard to tell without BeyondCompare or something, but I would still say just download and play 1.0.1. Sorry to make you do a 372mb download! Totally worth it through
Better yet Florian, try it in Temple+ and with BadSirBrian's Caves of Chaos graphics update on ModDB. Im doing that now. Yes, worth it!
OK, thanks. I went ahead and started playing KotB before getting a reply about the add - on, so all is good. I am currently in the underground of the Spider Woods. I will check out the BadSirBrian update.
