Sitting here at work and if I look at one more file, someone's getting hurt.

Decided to start this thread to see what the members of the Co8 communuity do for employment in RL.

    I'll start....

I'm an auto claims adjuster for a mid sized (and rapidly expanding) auto insurance carrier in the Chicago Area. I've been doing this work for over 13 years now (that's 26 years in human terms). Basically I handle the investigation and settlement of automobile accidents, damages, and injuries. As of now, I'm actullay back on the litigation side of the fence, dealing with the settlement and defense of lawsuits filed for damages or injuries.
NMO, I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY!! (shame on you for even thinking that!! ;) )

So, what do the rest of you do to make money and take your mind of ToEE (like that's ever the case! ;) )?

whats the point anyway? who in this world lives for a cause? dont we all just live becouse theres nothing better to do?

house, car, wife.. to where? to what end? whats the point after you reach them anyway? you work all your life for only one of these.. for what? why? becouse a failure system fails to provide me with the life thats my birthright? becosue everyone around me does the same? whats the point then? whats the diffrence between just falling down from a high cliff and living the life im supposed to have if its gonna take me to the same sad finish?

if theres no diffrence between a king and beggar under the soil then whats the diffrance between an adventurer and housewife?

Jump in. Do foolish, unjustifiable things. Because you're right, we're dead anyway.

The best thing in my life was a total, unplanned, bad idea: my son. It's been hard, but I'm STILL waiting for it to not be a very GOOD thing. I can hardly wait for him to make the same mistake.

Turn off the computer, get out of your house, and get DEEP into trouble. If it's not illegal, immoral or fattening, it's not worth doing.

Besides, being on the computer is more exciting too, because I have to fear getting caught by one of my bad ideas.

Aim low, kio. That's the key to happiness - or at least contentedness - imo. Surround yourself with trifling, meaningless things (like an unnatural interest in playing/modding a 5 year old video game ;)) that keep you off the rollercoaster. The rollercoaster is no good. It's what makes you ask the sort of questions you're asking here.

Either that or you could try GA82's method ... but mine's less risky if far less fulfilling. To each his own, though. :)

The point is, either way, forget the dream. The dream is a lie. It doesn't exist.

    [edit]

Had to post this from the #2 computer here at work, because the #1 computer died while I was typing it. Ha! ;)

This from someone who was 75 Inf? THAT sure was playing it "safe".

You are mostly right, though. But remember, "Aim" is an active verb. And all I'm saying is DO something. The happiness is in the doing.

Also note that you just did something with this game, unlike me. And you DON'T seem to be "aiming low". Your work is going to make a lot of people happy. Though some will whine a little.

A lot of people are disatisfied with their lives, because they think they are unimportant. But, that is the nature of civilization. Take just one bearing from the wheel in your car, (Did you even know there WAS such a thing?) and see what happens. On the other hand, take most "famous" people nowadays. If they never existed, nothing would be different. George Patton and the other famous generals didn't win the Battle of the Bulge. A bunch of clerks and cooks did.

BTW, to answer EC's question: I don't do anything in rl, I just teach.

You should write songs for Talking Heads :)

I found the meaning of my life in my daughter  I heartily recommend such things.

To answer EC's question, I work with folks with disabilities and mental health issues.

Yet another noble profession! Again, Bravo!!

As to your "meaning of life", I wholeheartedly agree!!
My son was and continues to be my greatest joy and accomplishment!
I was (fortunate??) enough to raise him for awhile as a single dad. I've never had a more profound, life-changing, lesson as that. That period of time, coupled with the meeting of my now second wife, was a period of wonderful personal growth and maturity!

Hey! I think he's talking about US!

I like small people too. They eventually get kind of big, but now the oldest is preggers, so the next generation is on it's way. :joy:

I'm in chicago too, i'm the international auditing supervisor for UPS at O'Hare airport. I basically head up a team that makes sure that people who are sending things out of the country have the correct paperwork to get them to clear customs in their destination country. It's actually fun sometimes to try to figure out the crazy customs laws for the differnt countries, or just trouble shooting to make sure that a bloody shipment isn't going to end up import held for god knows how long in some country.
