Why does the Silver Bastard Sword of Chaos require Great Sword proficiency? I was greatly disappointed that my bastard sword specialist couldn't use it without dropping his +2 shield and so losing 4 from his AC, and also cannot use it with TWF and ITWF.

Also, my Great Sword specialist will be doing 1d10 base damage instead of 2d6 as the stats of the sword are for the bastard, rather than the Great. A bit of a rum do all round. in fact.

    Hrrmph!

    Basically:

You get a +4 weapon, that does silver damage -bypassing DR reduction of some nasty buggers- and add 2d6 damage...and complaint about a measly 2 base damage points?

That sword is non-RAW, overpowered, and what's worst, is Cujo's idea :p
    Be glad it's there ;)

H-K, I think you might be confusing Cujo's Silver NoDachi (a weapon meant to be console only that appears to have migrated into Ah Fong's inventory list) with Krunch's Silver Sword of Chaos (a +1 Silver Bastard Sword that is Chaotic, found in Hickory Branch.)

I haven't used the SSoC since the 5.0.5 mod, but I don't remember it using Greatsword proficiency. I sorta remember using it as a straight trade for Scather with my Bastard Sword specialist, with shield in the off hand. I hope the Silver NoDachi didn't replace the SSoC in HB in the 5.5 mod...

    You're probably right, Erk...

In any case, i remember to have that sword after battling the Minotaur, and hand it over to my barbarian, which used a shield in the other...maybe something got mixed up in the new version...

Well, I don't know who rattled Half Knight's cage!

Yes, it's the one from the Minotaur at Hickory. But I am running 5.0.5, not the 5.5.0 beta.

My Bastard specialist couldn't wield it in one hand, despite having exotic proficiency. The Shift-Click text description says Great Sword proficiency required and it does 1d10 on a hit (by the way, 2d6 vs 1d10 is not a mere 2 points of base damage - it's that whole normal curve vs linear thing).

I looked in the protos and it says bastard sword and also freedom of movement, which isn't in the description. Must be a glitch.

I'd love to get hold of that silver nodachi!

What's the console code, or is it only in the beta?

Don't know off-hand, but it's available in your handy World-Builder!

    *flaps desperately*

    Screech!
    Skwawk!

Hum, if it says freedom of movement, it should work. Many items don't have a full description...

Iirc, it also should say something like "OIF_primary_hand" and "OIF_secondary_hand" or something like that. That is what enables your character to wield it single and/or on either hand, even if the description says Greatsword (yes, you could do a greatsword that can be wielded like a longsword).

    Ted...help?

I think protos also has something for medium and large weapons as per 3.0!!

Although bastard swords are considered size_medium, the nodachi is considered size_large, thus requiring two hands. The exotic weapon bastard sword proficiency to wield one-handed is worthless for this sword, even though it is considered a bastard sword (martial weapon).

Why drag me into this? :suprised:

You are all correct. Yes there are 2 silver swords, and yes one is badly overpowered while the other just sounds broken, and yes you need the specific exotic weapon proficiency to weild a bastard sword one handed, and yes weapon size (medium or large) will effect it also, and yes the freedom of movement thing may not work: I've never got jack out of Lareth's ring.

And no I haven't checked protos.tab as to what is wrong with this one.

The other is the Silver Sword of Chaos. IIRC, you get that at HB. I know I've had it before...

The only other "over-powered" sword I know of in the game is Excalibur, a modder creation. I can't remember if it's a "console only" item or if you get it "mail-order" from the Woodcutter after saving Amii.

Well you missed the gun too... did you get Excalibur? Or Iolo's Joy?

You do know you can talk to people, not just kill things... :poke:

Really? Lareths ring has worked for me on every time through ever. When I highlight the route for my char to go it appears red, but you can still move as if it was green.

Lareth's ring is awesome. Web+Ring of Free Action+Spring attack=flawless victory.

Well there you go - I must be doing it wrong. I grabbed it thinking it would be like the spider-killing sword in BG and used Web like that, but to no avail. Heh.
