He retired like Putin retired from the Presidency ;)
That was priceless. Sir, I am in your debt.

Otherwise I agree with Necro - the modern economic model is Fascist in the extreme. The Pentagon, NASA etc (the Government) running the economy through contracts with IBM, McDonald Douglass etc is identical to the Nazis running the economy through contracts with Krupp, Porsche and Heinkel. Strangely, Fox never tells us that.

Its worth mentioning that Fascism has different sides though. Modern Fascists (afaik) tend to gravitate toward Mussolini rather than Hitler on the grounds that Il Duce's Fascism wasn't inherently racist or anti-Semitic, which is the main bugbear people have about Fascism (while happily swallowing the economic model).

But whatever the type, its anti-democratic. Personally, I am a firm believer in strong democracy. Call me an idealistic fool

An informed and educated population is necessary for a true democracy. Business dealings, even in 'publically' owned corporations, do not have to be public.

Yes words to live by The price of freedom is eternal vigilence.
Put not your trust in mortal princes.
It's never unpatriotic to question anything in a democracy.

Well, given that .00005% of america's population would ever question the government, we have a facist economic model and give "democracy", such as it is, a slight nod here, is it any wonder that america is failing by leaps and bounds and will soon become a satellite country of China? Chairman Mao would be very proud of today's americans. Exactly the kind of people he wanted.

How is it even remotely possible to be proud of a country that was built by smug, wealthy, white slaveowners who believed that only their class should be allowed to vote?

And the american military has fought for those ideals from the beginning. Sad.

But did not many [white] Americans fight to abolish slavery, did not many [white] Americans struggle against segregation?

Yes, they sure did, after a couple of hundred years of it existing openly, at least.

I agree that there are pros and cons to everything, but my basic thought is that america has no morals, values or ethics to be a great country again. Our people are much too soft and swaddle ourselves in hypocrisy at every turn, ignoring the reality of situation, indifferent to the downslide.

Much like ancient Rome, our decadence will be our downfall, and it's making it's approach even now. Instead of gathering at the coliseums to watch gladiators fight to the death, a great many will prefer to watch it on their HD TV in dolby 5.5, so they can see every splash of blood as if they were right there in the middle of it.

What I wonder - and I wonder this very, very seriously - is, that with China moving to an open market (ie the rich Chinese will be able to get richer and richer and richer) but without pesky things like unions and elections to get in their way...

...how long before the rich westerners - the f***ers who control our political parties - start to think thats a very, very good idea?

That AGAIN word is the most confusing.

America IS a great country currently, even I - the red commie - could not question this.

Of course, there is always a matter of where the country goes - to the amplification of greatness, or to its diminishing...

(Do not know why do I write this, surely I should not defend America's greatness. Maybe it is because i like disputes... :dizzy:)

Serg, my red friend, I make this offer...I will switch places with you at any time you wish. You can come over here and take my place and I'll go over there and take your place and let the chips fall where they may. This offer has no time limit and can be redeemed whenever you are ready. I would be infinitely more happy growing naked cabbages and rutabegas and radishes and beets and squash and corn and wheat and raising rabbits and whatever else you guys do over there as opposed to fantasizing about violence I want to do to people everyday I take in breath.

Disputes are good for the soul. I like debating things, most times. I even sometimes like it when it degenerates into name calling and personal attacks. That can be healthy too.

I do not dare to take your place, because you are too good at what you are doing!

(I also did not say anything about Russia's greatness, maybe I deny obvious facts and consider my country THE GREATEST OF ALL? Who knows... :) )

    Also Necroticpus wrote earlier:
"Well Serg, if you had billions of dollars of stock in a company you created from the ground up, would you just walk away from it and let someone else run the show? The public belief is that he retired. I think he just runs it now out of the limelight while putting some other yutz out in front to take the heat.

Have no fear that he is still goose-stepping around every shareholder's meeting."

If I had billions of dollars, I would have tried to influence governments of the world so that my vision of better future could come true, that is what I would have done!

Well, that is what I am doing now, despite the fact I do not have billions of dollars... Yet.

What makes a country great is not it's i-phones or branchberries or pinktooths or any technology whatsoever. There's only one thing that can make a country great...it's ability to be ruthless, just like all them russian cops that wail on everyone at the slightest provocation and sometimes just for the fun of it. Everytime you see those guys doing their job around a group of people, the group is almost stone cold, rigid and uptight and watching the cops out of the corner of their eyes in case they have to start running from a flurry of batons upside their head.

Now that's the way the police should be. Beat first, ask questions later. Chances are excellent that if the person getting beat didn't do anything, they were thinking about doing something. It's preventative law enforcement instead of merely and uselessly reactionary.

America would be so much better if everyone lived in at least semi-fear all the time, never able to be complacent and take stuff for granted. Keep everyone on their toes.

ShiningTed posted a link to this:

"RUSSIAN President Dmitry Medvedev has made a surprise visit to the violence-wracked North Caucasus region of Dagestan, telling authorities to use tougher and "more cruel" measures to fight terrorism."

I am sorry to disappoint everyone here, but Medvedev actually said "strict", not "cruel".
Likely words were messed during translations, because they are much alike in Russian ("жёсткий" and "жестокий" respectively.)
