pot-ted :hahano: I hadn't thought of the meaning of "pot" when I wrote this. We had a similar incident in another forum, when another non-native speaker had said "I have made some improvements on this faction, if you look at their unit roosters, (instead of rosters) the faction is very dangerous" and a native speaker replied "yes, we need to be careful of those fighting cocks" About the scenery, I had thought of putting in a type of pack rat that we have here , so fauna was an issue . You are completely right about the half elf, looks like he gets a better strength bonus than a dexterity bonus. Not to mention that the name Chuck Norris came to mind when I saw his photograph (I guess it was the beard). I am sure he will be able to kill five Orcs with one shot, and then some. . I forgot that it was supposed to be a half elf there, and thus much leaner. Indeed the arrows should be 3 feet long, since this is a longbow, in fact he can hold one arrow between thumb and forefinger as if about to notch it, which is exactly as he should be in-game. However, after I've painted the half-elf a second time, I think I am also going to give him a sword. A piece of aluminum foil I was cutting came out just right for a curved sword, and I would really like to test the idea of a sword with aluminum foil "skeleton" to see if it's going to work and have the effect of a "thinner" blade. Thank you for your comments. . I'll keep posting here. I would also like to post a "frame-by-frame photo and commentary" of one encounter between two of the miniatures. It's something I was thinking of for quite some time.
A scimitar then? Actually, now that I think about it ... a certain half-elf comes to mind that WAS pretty strong, Tannis Half-Elven, and he bowled more than a few orcs over with merely a kick. Looking forward to the play-by-play with pictures.
Of course, Dragonlance. Oh, the memories it brings back, I used to play Dragonlance on an Amstrad 6 128 :sadblinky Those were the days... Edit* Indeed, I just made a scimitar, I'll make a quick scabbard. It's made from aluminum foil, with only a small layer of clay... I don't know if I'll keep this.
OK, here is the image of the half elf wielding his scimitar: Of course, it (and the elf) still need a second hand of paint, particularly at certain spots. I decided to go with metallic green from the scimitar, as it is the same color as his chainmail. Thank you all for your views and comments Hopefully, in the next few days I will have something better.
Hello, I've been doing some non DnD related stuff, but I thought I would include them here anyway. Here are some pawns I did for a chess et I am currently working on (I opted for this cool bronze color): They are only 1 inch tall from base to top of the head, so the sculpting detail is not that great. Same goes for the towers: They are one and a half inch tall, here is a better image, though: And here is a copper tree set on a multi(metallic)colored rock (I love metallic colors): And another pot of flowers (these ones smoke too ) yay, more metallic colors I haven't forgotten about the duel-demonstration thingy with the minis, in fact, I've been meaning to set some terrain for the event, but somehow, I never got down to it. Been thinking about a "stolen bow" scenario, kind of like the orc chieftain stole the half elf's bow and he and the dwarf or the human are trying to get it back... we 'll see. Thank you for your views.
I'm thinking, what with all the psychedelic colors ... maybe the flowers aren't the only ones partaking of the smoking I was looking over the other pictures and realized I had never mentioned the cool skulls on the axe head of the barbarian. Freak'n nice!
Thanks for the comment, sirchet. I assure you, though, the flowers are alone in smoking. Regarding the axe's skulls, it was the first attempt at making some sort of decoration of that size on a weapon, generally I like incorporating skulls on weapons, but too much of it might end up being boring. Trying 1/72 scale sculpting gave me the chance to actually work on even smaller details, so believe it will prove useful when I attempt to do some "decorations" for weapons of DnD sized minis.
Hehe, "the Bronze Bishop" seems like a very good idea. Being a chess piece, he has to be of a single color, and having a certain preference for metallic colors, I chose a recently purchased bronze. It's interesting, though, to see which side is going to be white and which side is going to be black. I am also in a dilemma about the color of the other side, poised between copper and silver. Copper is going to look better aesthetically (IMHO), but the problem is that it may look too much like bronze, and thus confuse the players. Silver seems like a better option, since it would solve the problem of who is going to be "white". Sirchet, you seem to be a patron of the arts , apart from me, you are the only persistent poster on this thread
Here is an update on the chess set, people: The "iron" side king: the three kings (I know that there are only supposed to be two, but I made one that came out too large, and when I realised it, it was too late to make him smaller, so I decided to make another Bronze king). The side view mainly shows off the shields... Front view of the three kings, showing the breastplates: The (largest) part of the bronze side, showing the new bishop (in scale mail) and the queen (evening dress with bow and arrow) that's about it for the time being.
This will certainly be THE chess set to have and whip out among your chess playing friends. Then you can say ... Jealous Much?
Thank you for your comment again, but it looks like I'm not going to get to keep this work either. 32 minis, though, is the most I've ever done in a single project (even the DnD project has seen only about ten minis so far. .
What do you mean? Do you make these per request and consequently release them to the person who ordered them when done?
I often make them for friends and relatives, as gifts. Sometimes I keep some for myself (usually the DnD project of removable armor and weapons-related materials). If they have something in mind (for example my nephew wanted me to make him a shark so I made him two, because they were rather easy, and my niece asked for one of the flower pots Other than that, a former colleague asked for a model of his WoW character (I told him to play classic DnD, but I made the character all the same), and so on. I haven't tried selling them yet.
