Prince Thrommel and other questions

Since I've got the subject on my mind, this could be another inject point for a Helm of Reading Magic. That would also give a hefty incentive to wander around looking for the MacGuffin for that quest.

 

Anti-munchkinism... this is why I like Gaear's work and why Co8 is one of the better modding communities out there; the early BG2 game mods were ridiculously munchkin and still tend to be fairly overpowered.

 

Using version 7.7 NC: When changing the 660 in line 633 to 640 I can ask for a reward and get the offer for the wares from the relative and later the list of items.

Excalibur is not in the list offered, it´s only
- Dwarven Plate, Amulet of Mighty Fists or Composite Longbow STR12 or Dragon Hide Plate.

Dramatically toning down would not be needed:
The Composite Longbow STR 14 / +2 is nothing special at that point in the game. To get it from the woodcutter Deklo Grove and Cure for Amy quest have to be finished and some time passed to wait for the relatives answer and then for the delivery of the order, but to get Masterwork Composite Longbows STR18 from the cabinet maker you only have to do Deklo Grove...

Dwarven Plate can be bought from Ah Fong in Nulb a bit later without any quest just as Dragon Hide Plate.

And of the list only 3 item can be bought before the woodcutter withdraws his offer again.

And storywise without the woodcutters offer of reward and his shop the story about the gnoll attack on the caravan would be gone.

If that is possible - could it be made that the woodcutter only offers those items if the party does not have the "Butcher of Hommlet" reputation?

 

I think Excaliber became available after 1 or 2 items were purchased.

I believe Dragon Plate was a choice, too.

I haven´t actually purchased every item on the list so I haven´t seen the longbow, but for 800 gold? Then either the lists prices are way off (what Tarim in his text specifically negates with his NO DISCOUNT sentences) or it´s just a Composite Longbow STR 14 (so STR bonus +2 not enchantment +2

 

Has that been changed? When I first met Thrommel in my current 7.7 NC game he was described simply as "man" before speaking to him and then Elmo recognized him as Prince Thrommel.

I thought too, that the Prince was under some sort of spell of disguise as a Vampire to have him killed by a party that came to rescue him.

 

Not only according to the module. When he joins the party and someone talks to him he can be asked why he wasn´t killed and left unguarded and he specifically mentions that a spell had been cast on him to let him appear as a vampire/illusion:

In my current game I could not have Thrommel equip his own belt. The game keeps telling me that there is no open slot for it...?

 

In my current game Thrommel was in my party and killed in the fight against Falrinth.

I left the temple, travelled back to Hommlet and had Jaroo raise him.

Then - still in the Grove - I talked to him why he was captured and how and so on and Thrommel meant:

...especially in a place such as this...
I guess the script just assumes that Thrommel still is in the temple, because he - if alive - would leave as soon as the party leaves the temple. However dead he doesn´t leave.

Is there a way for the script to check where Thrommel is when he speaks that?
Because e.g. when in the cathedral of St. Cuthbert or the Grove of Jaroo it seems not fitting.
