I guess there would have been more if more people got involved in
this forum. I mean look, there's always more than 50 users on-line
but most are guests who are too lazy to register just to say whether
they liked the mods or not... *Sigh* Hmmm have you all noticed that
things have slowed down lately? Very few new posts... new topics...
    strange...:questionm

Yeah . . . a casual look at the members list seems to indicate that there are at least 100 active members. If they don't particularly care about the committee that's fine. I just hope they're actually still out there.

btw, the currently 'vacationing' (I guess?) members of the newly elected committee - Blue, Allyx, Old Book - and semi-vactioning members - Cujo, Kalshane - are going to have to start putting in more time here again if this VAICOM thing is going to go. :bored:

As far as it being slow, Co8 has always gone in cycles like that. I do find it curious though that at a time when there should be lots of activity with KotB, people seem to be falling off. That's not too cool to leave Ted in the lurch like that. I suppose you could argue that we don't do a very good job of encouraging member involvement (and thus longevity), and I believe there's some merit to that possibility, but there also seems to be a strange sort of transient nature to these internet-based communities. You could 'know' someone at a site like this for 10 years and one day s/he might turn around and leave without a word. That would never (or rarely) happen in RL, but I've seen it many times on the net. Weird. :blank:

I agree with Krunch on this one. I mean, you are getting the blood flowing in a game that hasn't seen much excitement in a few years... *cough*...

Bah! To me, 'Value-Added Impact' strikes the perfect balance of a title that's trying desperately to sound like something, but actually can't be defined to mean anything. In business and politics here in the U.S., we struggle to quantify things in just such a fashion on a daily basis. The only other possible alternative would be to disguise it by calling it something that in reality would be defined as the polar opposite of what it really is, i.e., Patriot Act, Child Welfare Agency, etc., or in our case, the All Mods Get In Free! Committee, or the Big Brother Co8 Is Not Watching You, So Relax Committee. That sort of thing.

'Game Research' sounds too much like something we might actually do; VIAGRA might work if our main objective was to get the membership to think that the committee was sexually potent.

Well it should be potent after all the pharmaceuticals & viagra
spam that's been overflowing our forum for some time (thank
    God it's over).

Dagnabit! Did none of you actually acronymise my previous post of 'Value & Impact Adding Game Research Association'? Or get the Blue Pill reference?

No wonder I don't waste my A material on you people!

And since Gaear mentioned KotB, can I just say the Second Arc is FINISHED, I am just tidying up the previously mentioned bugs in the other stuff. But I just got back into gainful employment :( so it'll be a few more days at least.

@ShiningTed: It seems they didn't get it or just plain missed it, one or the other, so I spelled it out for them with my own variant naming convention.

Well, I'm perplexed beyond mere annoyance with this situation now. Here, a full 12 days after the poll was to be unstickied upon its expiration, it remains hanging up here atop the GM forum like so many abandoned mining towns from the gold rush era. What does this say for the commitment and/or good intentions of the newly elected committee? Fully half of them are mysteriously MIA upon its inception.

Ted, Spike, and myself are trudging along basically as normal, while Cujo is around but posting less (but hell, at least he's around). As for the other half:

Kalshane - MIA, but I think he posted something a while back about being busy. Okay fine. Gone some two weeks.

Allyx - Sporadically MIA and apparently having rather serious internet connectivity problems. Checks in once every six days or so.

Old Book - MIA, and I don't recall any reports of anticipated busy-ness before his mysterious departure. Can't check either, because he's 'hiding' in User CP. Maybe a supermoderator like Blue could check, except -

Blue - MIA for around two weeks, with one brief visit to read a PM or something and no advisements as to his situation whatsoever.

Note that no member of the committee-elect indicated that they wouldn't be able to participate initially due to scheduling conflicts, general 'busy-ness,' or other issues.

Where does this leave the committee? Half a panel with no chairman is hardly equipped to undertake the assigned tasks. Plus, Ted would be the only one capable of handling the technical aspects, and I don't think it's fair to saddle him with that given his KotB obligations. (Maybe Cujo too I guess, but not me and Spike.) This is particularly disappointing because Kalshane and Blue - the concept's originator and it's greatest supporter respectively - are among the missing. If we later find that Blue was missing due to some grievous disability I'll apologize, but I think I'm entitled to use this tone being as I was actually there once - not posting or logging on because I couldn't get near a computer and not even thinking to because I was doped up on pain meds.

I suppose that some of you may be raising your hands to volunteer as replacements, but meh. This whole affair has cast enough of a pall over the endeavor that I no longer think it's worthwhile. Therefore, as the originator of the poll (specifically) to formally elect the committee, I hereby declare the committee as elected in this thread to be null and void due to absenteeism.

If anyone cares to re-initiate this proposal at some later time, be my guest, but personally I don't see the point given the current situation. Sorry. :shame:

On a side note, barring some change in conditions here, we should start pondering a quick-fix for the modpack. Maybe just roll the latest CMFs into 5.0.0 and release the whole thing as 5.1.0 or something. Or should we regress to 4.1.0 as the last official release? That might be easier. First we'll have to try to find Morpheus though . . . :eek:_O:

Gaear, I'm not sure what you expected from us? Ok, so the committee is formed, what should our first order of business be?

I don't think we need to abandon it just yet, maybe just a bit of a move-along to keep things going. Hasn't that always been the case? ;)
