Sorry. Outlook and certain of my email accounts haven't been cooperating to well lately. I did get it today though, before you posted.

    Unfogging the Nodes

OK, time for our next question. A while ago Morpheus posted this in another thread:

There seem to have been no replies, so I assume no one else tried it. I did some experimenting of my own on this issue a few months back, and found that (not surprisingly) the results are inconclusive. It seems that unfogging the nodes does make the game run smoother in those areas. However, the problem does not go away completely. On my system there were fewer nodes hangups, but they would still pop up once in a while.

    Two things:

    1. It would be nice if we could get a few other people to try this out and see what happens. To try it, "add the UNFOGGED flag to" the appropriate lines for the nodes "in MapList.mes (modules\ToEE\rules)." (Thanks, Morpheus)

    2. If we can generate some conclusive evidence that doing this helps lessen the slowdowns, we should next decide if we want the fix to be a part of Co8 4.0.0. Remember that Hommlet and Nulb are unfogged due to Co8 3.0.4.

Also note that krunch has made some interesting discoveries regarding RAM modules and slowdowns. Check the latter posts in his Windows XP thread here .

Check posts numbered #15 through #19 using the link Gaear provided above to the thread
"annoying Bugs, mostly, in Temple.DLL on XP Pro SP2".

Yes, they are detailed and long. Post #19 is new, as in a couple of minutes ago.

Sorry Gaear. I've been busy working on the release and the voice and portrait packs and haven't given it a try yet. The Herzou stench issue has been raised as well, and Cujo and I have been looking into it. I'm also trying to fix the two broken random encounter maps. And I need to work on the documentation. Hopefully this weekend, after Liv has had a week to respond to Agetians email, I will look into it.

My current group has just cleared level 2 of the temple, gimme a day or 2 Gaear, I'll check into it. I can't do any technical analysis (like Krunch can - i'm not even sure what video card I have!) but I'll do my best.

Thanks. Being as the nodes slowdowns are almost universal, I think testing on any system is useful.

Hey Krunch, no offense meant man, but could you please not hijack this thread for your hardware info. This thread if for discussing the upcoming Co8 4.0.0 release. If you have any input on that, please share it. I for one would love to hear it. And btw, I really do value your hardware info. I find it very enlightening. Just not in this thread please.

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

Okay, I've fixed both of the broken random encounter maps, and incorporated them into what will be Co8 4.0.0. Now random encounters will have a choice of all eight maps to choose from. Now I'm going to start working on the change log and credits, and I'm working on the Voice and Portrait Packs as well.

To keep this ball rolling, is anybody checking out the unfogged nodes thing? Come on people, I know some of you must have a saved game with characters high enough to attempt the nodes. There has also been one vote to include Agetians ed.py script (with the readme and full credit given, of course) in the release, and I am inclined to agree. Any oppinions?

Are we getting anywhere with the Herzou stench? Cujo? Allyx? I know both of you were looking at it. Any oppinions on what we are going to do about it, if anything?

Is Mass ID and Analyze Dweomer going into the release?

Let's keep this going people. We can't wait to hear from Liv forever.

no luck yet but I havn't tryed very hard with the stench effect - mass id is easy, Analyze Dweomer is harder as I can't figure out how to add a tempory (or perminent) bonus to spellcraft.

I keep thinking that I'm forgetting something important that I've got to do, anyone got any ideas?

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

Good news, Blue. Care to enlighten us on how you did it?

If we can't gather any more data here, maybe we should move onto the "should we" question. Is unfogging the nodes (and making them fully navigable from the get-go) something we want to do?

I'm either drawing a mental blank or I missed that thread. ;) Can you explain this further?

I'm not going to the wall on this one, but personally I think they should stay out. If I'm not mistaken they're a "modification" of the rules? I never thought that IDing things singly was such a big deal. Hey, if your crew thinks it doesn't have the time, go ahead and try that unnamed blue potion. Remember, roleplaying is the key, not making it more convenient for someone on their 100th time through.

Well, many of your armors still have the ass area shamefully hidden for females. How about some Buttless Leather Chaps of Eagle's Splendor? :p
