The Pathfinder Reference Document has some descriptions more in that vein, or you could try looking up older edition AD&D books. I vaguely recall them having more descriptive text.

    Not descriptive, really?

It even talks about when riding a horse?

Me, I think it's the perfect long description.

Oh well, knowing Gaear, he'll probably find something that's even better. :)

Well they do describe, but it seems to be with an implied knowledge of what the subject matter already is. e.g. "you can't use this longsword while riding a horse!" instead of "a longsword is a sword that is long, with a pointy tip." ;)

Uh...I believe a longsword CAN be used from a horse, but your point is taken. :)

Sirchet's example is more of a description of the rules of use in the game, whereas you think something more like a dictionary or technical description is what is called for here.

Pretty much, yeah. Although something with some D&D flavor would be nice. There are actually a few descriptions in there now that reference decidedly non-D&D things, like real world races and cultures.

Gaear, I don't know if you already have the Player's Handbook 3.5 or if this is the kind of information that you are after, but here are the weapon descriptions in the Player's Handbook 3.5 (note: I've noticed that the SRD is missing some weapon description entries that are in the Player's Handbook):

Actually I see that many of them are the same as the SRD. ;)

I'm liking the Pathfinder ones, to be honest.
