    Bugs Billy

    Hi Ted

I wish I had good news for you but I don't . There is something still wrong with Billy. Just to make sure that I'm not doing something that may be contributing to the problem, allow me to explain how I am playing the game.
1.) When I load KoTB to start a new season, I alway click on "Clear Map Cache on Startup" or whatever it is ( the furthest bottom, right-hand check-box on the KoTB start-up screen)
2.) I always rest the party in the furnished room, usually for 8 hours, but occasionally "Until Morning"

Here is what happened with the various saves I just sent you ( I don't know if there is one save that is bad or not, so I am including all the saves that are related too, or just prior to the Billy fight ). I encountered Lady Maeri, and completed 2 of her quests. Needless to say, after getting ambushed enroute to the shrine, the party was not amused. Upon returning to the Keep, the party Terminated Lady Maeri [save: Lady M must die] ( You may wish to "flesh" her out some in the full module, as she didn't cast a single spell when I attacked her, there was no dialogue option to show her the note and accuse her of setting up the ambush, and there was no "reputation" or "investigation" by Keep authorities regarding her death ). At any rate, killing Maeri put every member of the party up to 3rd level (saved as 3rd Lvl Party). I rested for 8 hours in the furnished room after leveling up. Upon exiting the Inn the next morning, the guards were under attack, but there was no sign of Billy. I should point out that the Rottwieler that hangs out in the area was listed as a "mangy dog". I went into the tower, spoke with the Bailliff and went up to the top of the tower and out on the wall, and Billy was nowhere to be found, and the guards he was shooting at had disappeared. I went back into the tower and came back out, and still no Billy. I tried the "enter/leave the tower" trick 4 or 5 times before reloading the "3rd Lvl Party" save. I tried every dialogue option (reloading each time) with the Bailiff ( to see if the dialogue you chose might have something to do with the problem ) with no luck. I even had the Party Druid "talk" to the dog until it changed from "Mangy Dog" to "Savage Dog" while running to the Bailiffs Tower. No luck.
Now here's where it get's interesting. I reloaded "3rd Lvl Party" and exited the Inn (in the middle of the night), with the idea of turning the dog from "Mangy" to "Savage" before confronting Billy later in the day. Lo and behold: Billy was on the roof !! I ran to the Inn, spoke with the Bailiff, and proceeded to finish the quest. I used the dialogue option to get the +1 Arrows and the healing ointment, but I haven't received the ointment ( but I also haven' spoken with the scribe either ).

Then the fix I tried isn't working: I changed it from "Billy and guards all turn up when the flag is set" to "guards turn up when the flag is set, and Billy turns up when the flag is set OR the guards are there". I tested once and it was fine (but then Billy always turned up in previous tests so there you go) but I will have to completely rethink the whole Billy encounter mechanics. Stupid non-consistently-cascading first heartbeats

But thanks for the feedback guys :) The mangy dog / savage dog thing is fixed in the protos.tab along with some other stuff but was not posted in the interim patch. Also, Lady Maeri now casts spells (or 'casts spells again' since she did originally but it was one of the many little things broken by the blanket 'change combat AI' implementation of Liv's scripts that I did). She's still a cleric with a weasal familar - try to ignore that ;)

    Hi Ted
Here is another little quirk for you. I honestly don't know if this is a bug in KoTB, or whether it is a bug in ToEE itself. My bard was doing some "creative financing" (aka "picking pockets") when I saw this. which is correct.jpg
The floatline says that the pickpocketing failed, but the dieroll box states "Sleight of Hand... Success" . Which statement is correct ??

->For the aracnophobia quest am I suppose to kill all the spiders in the forst in addition to the queen?

I tried to give back the Queen eggs.... then I killed him... But when I went to the guy in the town that sponsers the quest he still tries to tell me that I should go kill the spiders? is it intended?
--->I am not certain why while I was rescuing Shady in the jail if I got busted by someone and initiates the battle.... the dialog window would pop again and again starts a loop that I am not able to get out of..

    At least 10 more, yes.
Sorry, thats a bug I thought I got rid of.

EDIT: Regarding the pick-pocketing thing, I am not sure what to say, except maybe the mercenary had nothing in his pockets? They should have some coins though... but maybe it succeeded in that it tried to lift something from the pocket, but failed in that there was nothing to take so you failed to get anything.

2nd EDIT: Ok, that gaol guard bug thing was fixed in a redundant script, not a working one. Bugger. Its fixed now :)

3rd EDIT: Fixed the Billy-ointment-reward thing too: that was in some options but not all.

I hired a mercenary, and she accompanied me through a few combats. After killing one of the corpsers in the swamp, she announced that she was leaving the party. [Did I run out of money or something?] Just as she announced that, another corpser attacked. She fired an arrow at it, and when it was dead she announced again that she was leaving, and disappeared. The problem is that now whenever I 'select all', there is an empry blue circle that follows me wherever I go, as if she was still there. If I vist the Inn in daylight, I have no problem, but if I go at night I get a CTD [probably because she should be at the Inn at night, but it thinks she's with me. If I fight anything, I get a CTD, probably because it can't figure out whether to roll initiative for her or not.
I know there's a console command to forcibly remove a follower, but I don't remember it--maybe that would work. I'll try to find that in a minute, but either way I thought I'd alert everyone that this can happen. I think I'll swear off mercenaries in the future.

In my other game, I killed the Mad Wizard, but when I try to report on the fate of the adventurers I don't have a dialogue option to tell him the Wizard's dead. He wants to send some bowmen with me to kill him. The quest is marked completed, but he won't introduce me to the Castellan for the final battle--I assume because he thinks I need to kill the Wizard. I tried going back to the Wizard's place and then returning to the Inn, but he still won't count the job as done.
[I got annoyed and killed every living thing in the entire Keep...but I didn't save that game. :)]

    Regards,
    Ecthelion

For "Inn" read "pub"--I played too many games of ToEE.

Since it was a mercenary and not a real NPC, her portrait wouldn't appear anyway. Her portrait does still appear in my battle formation screen. Probably because she is a hanger-on and not a real NPC, the console command didn't banish her. [She doesn't cause a CTD if I attack 'green' NPCs, but one can only murder the Gypsy so many times before one gets the urge to adventure.... :)

Well nice to see that damn 'time is up mercenary leave now' thing actually fired for once. I'll clean up that 'blue circle' problem.

The Mad Wizard quest is actually to find the fate of the missing party, so it should show as complete pretty much as soon as you speak to Frankengoblin. Still, the later part needs some work by the sounds of it.

I recruited some new char from the board... then she died and I dismissed her from my party.. however when I am back in town her body is still with me...

The body would be gone when I travel to areas outside the town... but once I am back the body is back as well

EDIT: for the lizard folk quest after I killed their enemy and went back to talk to the lizard king...... even without any character that is able to speak to them the lizard king still would talk to us as normal ( My wizard got killed by the bad breath from their enemy)

    Hi Ted
Here's another fun bug for you. I (finally) was contacted by the Thieves Guild, and accepted the first assignment. I sent the bard out to find the shady prisioner, leaving the rest of the party at the top of the stairs. I finally located him and went to talk to him. My bard actually walked through the locked celldoor !! I then talked with the prisioner. When I went to unlock the door ( from inside the cell no less ) it was noticed by a guard, who asked who gave me permission to be there. I opted to fight, at which point the game started continously looping to the dialogue "Halt ! By whose authority are you down here ? "

Yeah, thats been fixed but the fix hasn't been posted. Next patch (which at this rate might not be for a while, when I will post a definitive patch that updates to 1.1 and settles everything about everything). but the walk through the door thing - thats damn annoying, but nothing we can do about it. Its the reason the gaol cell the PCs go to has to be completely sealed off, otherwise they could just click on a passing guard and run straight out like that.
I'll check that thing from the board when i get a chance, but thats a weird one. Otherwise, once you have gotten someone with the racial or other languages capacity to talk to both the Lizard Chief or the Spider Queen, its assumed in future that you are somehow communicating through them. So yeah, its inconsistent if that player goes missing. It was a deliberate decision, to sacrifice a little consistency for game-play: I figured it would only annoy the player to have to go through the rigmarole of using the specific character. Sorta like having to go in through the front gate of the Keep every time: you do it once (or don't do it and get turned away) but after that you can just use the world map, since where is the fun of having to play through the gate every time?

Since there will be far more language-based stuff when the party encounter the tribes at the Caves of Chaos, I might have to re-think this. For the moment, compare the Great Kingdom emissaries - while I am very proud of that encounter, it gets very annoying (I think) having to frig around with a translator every time you want to just buy something. That encounter will go the other way; any player with an Int of 17 or more will be assumed to have learnt the Great Kingdom language as a bonus language and the whole encounter will be much smoother. that already happens with the chief of the Great Kingdom guards, i think.

Great Kingdom emissaries" wow damn I must missed that quest... plzzzz enlight me how to get that quest started... I really want to explore this great mod all the way through... (I know its still a beta)

On the other note I cant seem to get the mad wizard to talk to me once I knocked into the room... I've tried this with both LC and LE parties
