In my world map, the area where the lizardman cave is an area north of the pine forest called "Swamp" and the area where the baby dragon is an island called "Lizardman Refuge" Bug?

OK, see if you can follow along, I don't know peoples names and such: In this game I am playing, I accepted all the quests on the board and I first went to the spider queen. She told me to go to the lizardman caves and get her eggs. I went into the cave and did a full scale slaughter before there was any dialog with them. I got everything in the chest and gave one to the undertaker guy and the rest went to the spider queen.

Then I went to the that lordy guy and he told me to go kill the dragon. I gathered up the scattered treasure and I went to the guy in the pub and I was able to somehow let him a story about a mad wizard and the missing adventurers that I know nothing about.

What did I miss? How can I claim the reward for the adventurers and tell a story about a mad wizard that I really know nothing about?

    Because i'm an idiot?

Despite keeping a close check on flags used in the game, there are clearly a couple of duplicates doing the rounds. One is the 'met spider-silk merchant' flag - people are telling Flay they met the spider merchant when they clearly haven't - and this appears to be another one. I'll get right on it.
    No.
Meet him in the pub at night. Otherwise, I'll look at that. You wouldn't think Billy was one of the first quests done, and was tested over and over again, would you? Damn Elves.
    As a last resort.
My brain melted trying to calculate where you went wrong but I would suggest you should have an extra '-10' in there somewhere. Think of it this way - no-one else has had a problem with that riddle. Also, when he asks you to pick someone smart to answer, do it - characters of less-than-impressive intelligence won't get the correct option. But in any case its more than 6.25.

I checked it again, and the comp. bow Str 14 is Masterwork, even though it does not say so and the price would not suggest it should be.

Well there is a seperate composite longbow str 14 in the protos.tab, so I guess that one is a mistake. And its been fixed :)

Ooo, an entire day without a bug report. Sweet :)

The patch is coming along nicely, I just stopped by to say I have confirmed the "inn" bug: I had a nice CTD free game running around chatting to people and doing quests before I finally had to rest, and had CTDs right after - completely nuked saves really. I tried resting upstairs instead (after an earlier save), game all better. Kept playing, had to rest again after a while, slept downstairs and a couple of maps later (well, a few really - bailey-pub-guild-bailey-cells, with the CTD on arrival at the cells) had the CTD. So I went back and reloaded, skipped sleeping, and sure enough did the cells map and subsequent stuff with no CTD. So sleeping downstairs certainly seems to be corrupting the game somehow. I'm hoping sleeping upstairs might be ok, but we'll see.

Other than remaking the map I am not sure how to fix downstairs, but its only a little map ;)

    A few typos and errors:

    "judding" instead of "jutting"
    "masacre instead of "massacre"
    "weilds" instead of "wields"
    "nuetralise" instead of "neutralise"

"whats" instead of "what's" (probably a few of these)
    "thats" instead of "that's" (" ")

Dialogue with Archdruid: one response overlaps another.

ATM, I'm having a CTD fest, no real patterns.
    Know of solutions?
    Many areas, indoors and outdoors.

CTDs are my real problem with KotB. Wish I could help you there.

I'm on patch 1.0.3: Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I've been playing around with the Lady Maeri vial quest - it seems that the option to use the vial on the radial menu only appears if I choose option 1 (accept the quest); the other choice (option 2) puts the item into my inventory but I can't use the vial...

There have been some issues mentioned with that quest - I'll look into it.

@ Cern: If sleeping in the Inn is causing problems to pop up later, it's going to effect everyone's game I guess. I'll see if I can confirm whether sleeping upstairs is any better. Otherwise, once you hit a buggy save, go back to an earlier one, since there is no use continuing with a save that is going to cause CTDs: the problem will be written into the save and its bound to come up again somewhere.

Sorry the patch is taking so long, but to be perfectly frank i have simply been playing the game slowly and carefully, keeping an eye on things, fixing the little things that pop up and, frankly, enjoying it :) Long time since I simply played the damn thing. Very happy to see how many of the quests simply work - ran the second Thieves' Guild quest yesterday (a quite complicated one) and it worked very nicely indeed :mrhappy: Stupid corporal :icon_chuc

Anyways, I have got a long way into it with no CTD issues that weren't caused for a very obvious reason (the Inn). Sleeping upstairs for no more than 8 hours at a time has given me a CTD free game. The sole exception was when i slept multiple 8-hour stretches (with healings in between) at the upstairs of the Guildhouse: reloading and just doing the one 8-hour stretch there and the CTD disappeared.

Moral of the story? Only sleep 8 hours at a time, and LEAVE in between: and I mean leave to the worldmap, not just head downstairs (I tried that: got CTDs). Be strong - rest up, cast your healing spells then head out into the world with understrength clerics rather than resting again. The game isn't that tough!

One other issue: someone reported that saving on random encounter maps increases the likelihood of a corrupt save. I had always suspected that, but put it down to irrationality (since those maps are just like any other). Until I remembered last night, they are NOT like any other - the game 'clears' them before running them in a way it doesn't do with normal maps.

Also, one thing the Inn etc has in common with the random maps is a check for random encounters; just because you have a green tent indicating sleep is safe doesn't change the fact the game still runs the random encounter table (thats how it knows to give you the green tent in the first place, as many of you will know). So if this is a problem with that random encounter script (which I am starting to suspect it may be) then obviously hainging around on random encounter maps, saving there and reloading on them increases the possibility of problems. So don't do it.

Had another CTD returning from the Mad Hermit map, which I traced back through a number of (what turned out to be corrupted) saves to resting in the Inn (again). I've been going over the random encounter script, but otherwise I just need to test that Mad Hermit fade-and-move thing and then the patch is done.

First the bad news: I can't see myself even getting back online for another 3 days: some really busy RL stuff going on :(

Now the better news: the patch was delayed today by me working out (I think) what was causing the CTDs. Rigorous logic suggested where the problem must lie, I introduced a fix, and initial testing has been positive (CTD free) even after extended 'laying around in the Inn' sessions. Far more testing is needed but I am feeling quite good about this :) The rest of the patch is done, bar this.

Ok, back after a wonderful week at work – course now Ted’s out apparently… Doesn’t anyone cover for you here in the forums? Must have a position like mine. Excellent news on the potential Inn fix.

    Anyway-

HK says you can r.click and drag the radial – shit! – and I’ve played through ToEE twice and never knew that, what a twit…

Where I respectfully disagree with HK is on the pixel hunting. Yep, I got the whole searching with the order of attack bar and/or the char portraits on the bottom of the screen, it apparently highlights or centers the screen on a totally occluding mass of foliage with a character somewhere underneath. It’d guess it’d be different if there were some local x-ray type removal of the blockage (like Fallout). And it’s real fun when the attacker and target both fall under the branches.

Speaking of Fallout (1 or 2? can’t remember which) there was a point where something highly useful (granted not absolutely 100% essential, but damn near for the game I was playing) could be found early in the game that was “hidden.” It’d be in plain sight if it where an FPS. Instead it was behind a southern wall and being an isometric with only local occlusion culling - or whatever the term is - I pissed around what seemed to be forever without that item (saved by a walk-thru, oh the shame.) It caused a lot of frustration and almost made me to give up on what was eventually a great game due to a single poor design choice – the dreaded pixel hunt™ (with the occluding artwork garnish.)

Don’t get me wrong, it’s Ted and company’s call here, but the ToEE community is small enough as is without adding a turnoff such as this to the design. The original ToEE was really good at avoiding pixel hunts to my knowledge (maybe it’s time for me to consult another walk-thru…) The eastern half of the spider forest, for example, is perfectly fine. Just my opinion but I want a solid vote in the no pixel hunt/no occluding crap camp. OK - I’ll shut up on all that now – it’s not like I can ask for my money back.:)

The only thing to add to the bug list is Billy is still AWOL, I noticed that the “Mangy dog” (apparently Billy’s trigger) did turn into a “Viscous Dog” earlier in that game just by clicking on him with my ranger’s attempt to talk to it. It’s back to a mangy dog again. Never turned red, never attacked, the name just changed for no apparent reason. And here I took it off my bug list thinking it would have no relevance. Off to try the “In and out of the tower till Billy shows” fix mentioned.

I see...yes, ToEE had the "silohuette " system, if you where behind something, it showed a kind of shadow of the characters...but if we use that in KotB, lot of the "cheating" we have made will be revealed ;)
In any case, if the foliage (mainly those big green trees) work as a i think, the "pixel hunt" problem could be solved easily by rendering them semi invisible (since the ground it's also green, there would be no problem), or by modifiying them to have lots of holes between the leaves, so you'll be able to see everything beneath.

First time, i've seen the guards shooting, but no Billy. I just keep going, and when i went out of the tower, Billy wasn't there. I just loaded the game right there, foolishly without trying anything else, and this time, when i had seen the first guard, i moved the screen to the left as much as i can, and bingo, there he was. I've run up the tower and there he was too.
A later retry i didn't scroll the screen when i've seen the guards, just went straight to the tower. Billy wasn't there, but i went in-out of the tower and he appeared.
I didn't tried anymore cos it worked (as well as the reward, it worked fine).
Finely equipped, i've afforded the luxury of defying the whole thieves gang, and wow...what a loot! but it won't worth the loss of plots and quests. It's better to pickpocket them ;)

Yah, I gave them what seemed to me class appropriate loot and then noticed they were just a mass of magic gear waiting to be stolen. That will be looked into in the long term. Lets hope they get in some sneak attacks ;)
Clicking on him allows you to get to know him - like clicking on a drunk reveals he is called Elmo. Still, its an anachronism (or inconsistency) and it should show 'mangy dog' at all times. I'll fix it.

Billy has been given a very simple fix that should do the trick: I'll include that in the next patch and give it some game testing before trying anything more complicated.
