Did Black Adder borrow that from "A Clockwork Orange" (1961)?

Check the date on Clockwork Orange. I think it was in the '70's. After 2001, which came out in 1968. I saw it in college with Cepheid Variable.

    Kubrick Rocks!

Blasphemer! I was referring to the novel you illiterate ;)

Although I am a big Kubrick fan, and suspect his death was not natural, I do not believe the film should have won the award for best screenplay since just about every word was taken directly from the novel (minus the 21st chapter).

Let's not clutter up Sitra's thread any further. General Discussion is the place for this should you wish.

Novel? New? What is this thing you call literacy? Me watchy big box. Makey shiny pretty pictures that talk. No needy scratchings on flimsy stuff.

Didn't the award go to the author? Oh, well, it was just an Oscar. I got 3 or 4 myself. ;)

Best adapted screenplay, perhaps? Consider the difference between Rankin Bass' version of Return of the King, compared to Peter Jackson's: one adapted a screenplay frmo the novel that deserved an acadamy award, the other did not.

I'm not saying which is which, though.

Sitra, I am doing a quick runthrough with LE party and this is what I noticed for those who only want original content:

Jade Empress & Co. still exist
Smith has Ted's masterwork weapons before killing Giant (but I think the giant head quest was not vanilla anyways)
Diablo music in Frank's empty house

Also, I have noticed in that if you lose drinking contest, Ostler sometimes still says "we have a winner" rather than "you're out"
Turuko does not show his scripted excuses for why he will not join LE adventuring group.

My LE party is not using Humble NPC patch. Gained "Friend of Lareth the Beautiful" and Hommletians KoS. On a reload I talked to all NPCs to not sell their equipment, then talked to Amario (who is special in terms of reputations, iirc), then walked around and no one bothered group. Still had Lareth in party with Rep.

Edit: After a little testing, it seems that "humbling" Lareth through dialog negates KoS. Thus, in order to enjoy the consequences of my actions, Lareth will keep his crap and the party must leave Hommlet, or destroy everyone there. Decisions, decisions!

Actually, I wonder why Lareth is so famous. Do they have Wanted Posters of him around Hommlet? They should! Otherwise, the whole KoS thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense (or can someone explain the role-playing aspect of it to me)

Zaxis has the Suggestion spell. It shows the enemy as Charmed, but no change in behavior. This was tested with the Minotaur who kept attacking the Spiritual Weapon and then the party. My only suggestion is that people might want to see / enjoy how overpowered the original Suggestion spell was. Put it back in its former glory.

Party just returned Frag and accompanied to Verbo. It seems that the Verbo mod is functioning quite well for LE group.

My appologies if I'm getting off topic here, but since it appears decisions and such might be made based on potentially incorrect assessments: I felt it necessary to point out that not all new/return followers even know about Co8 or the mods.

I've been playing the game (off and on) since it came out, but didn't stumble across this site until this week.

I agree that the game has been somewhat over tweaked, but I have yet to truly experience very many of the changes. I sort of got hung up when I ran into Jayfee and the dialogue wasn't there; just numbers with nothing after them. "Que pasa, dude?"

The addition of all the extra Homlett Villagers (with the exception of the children), is a bit much; as there are no houses for them and they stand around a lot doing nothing.

I was extremely dissapointed when I went to create my favorite Elven Ranger and his picture was no longer there. (Who decided Drizzt had to die any way?) However, I'm researching the means to restore that on my own.

If the patch (and I haven't finished going through this whole thread yet...) makes it so there are no hiccups in the game, then great: let those who want it install it.

But I agree that there should be a file somewhere that lets me know what all the current problems are with the current full blown mod; so I can avoid them and not be "pissed" when they interfere with my game play.

    Thanks, that's my two cents.

PS. The Moat House Respawns? About time the NPC's did more than wait to be dissemated! Looking forward to it.

Check out the new portraits in the the 5.5.0 update. There is an excellent portrait, in white and blue, of a middle-aged elf with short hair who's dual-wielding. I usually use him for my Drizzt (14/20/13/15/15/14). The portrait of a drow, also blue and white, that I used to use is also still there. All the original ToEE portraits are still present. ;)

Hmmm... I'll agree that "suggestions are a dime a dozen", but really good "Idea Men" are hard to find. Oh, evryone thinks his/her idea is awesome, but as you said they have no clue in the long run.

Myself, I'm still trying to learn the nuances of C++ (and now it's C#) and I'm the type that learns by example. The problem has been a lack of good examples. I've begun to find a few here and plan to keep digging until I can do just what you asked (or was it more like demanded?) of Aurelinus; provide the idea and the means to achieve the same.

So, with that in mind; has Atari or any of the original developers of ToEE released any of the source code? If not, are we actually allowed to reverse engineer the game in order to solve the delimmas that we face in making the mods we want?

Just curious and willing to do whatever I can; as I'd love to see a future where we're abble to play all the original quests (Steading of the Hill Giant - to - Queen of the Demonweb Pits - and more).

    No.
Allowed? Possibly not. But the .dll has been changed to fix bugs, yes. (The engine is in the .dll, there is no value in hacking the .exe).

If you wish to fix some bugs by reverse-engineernig the .dll, please do.

I bought ToEE in late Nov, 2004 and played off and on for a couple of months. I was ready to give it up, then I found Co8 and the info I needed/wanted and I'm still here. Without any "offical" help the game has changed from a bugged-out piece of crap to a good playing, fun game. A lot has changed in 4 years, but with the forums and downloads you can catch-up quickly. If you're interested in ToEE this is the place to be. There is a wealth of material available for most anything. Just go for it and have fun.

    *casts raise dead on thread*

Thanks for your perseverance in testing the mod, Basil. I am now working on packaging it as a legitimate TFX addon for the Co8 5.0.0 TFX module.

-The LE business with Turuko was indeed an oversight, now fixed.
-Reverted background music in Frank's house and other Hommlet interiors to pre-DH tracks
-Changed starting maps to vignettes instead of Jade caravan, and restored starting equipment to vanilla version
-Reinstated Wonnilon Hideout Fix which was apparently missing

    Couldn't replicate:
-"Turuko does not show his scripted excuses for why he will not join LE adventuring group." - not sure what you even mean by that.
-Suggestion works fine for me (i.e. same as vanilla) - maybe this was due to some installation issue, which shouldn't be a problem with the new standardized addon method.

Will soon upload the Addon and a link in the original post.
