The Skill check penalties and weight of the Bone Armor is similar to Chain Shirt but most of its other qualities are that of a halfplate. And it's surprisingly set as Medium armor.

Change if you wish. I'd probably just leave it alone though and just chalk it up as a design decision. There are armors in other games (IWD2, BG2) where you could get lightweight plate armors from the carcasses of creatures like Boring Beetle full plate, Ankheg plate and so on.

Don't think it's of much relevance anyway since if I'm not mistaken, only Troll Bone Armor is available in the game and the stats for it are quite unambiguous

yeah, but even in those games if you got got half plate that was made form an ahnkeg, or boring beetle, it was still half plate, and you still had to be able to wear heavy armor.

Cool. Is it actually in the game - can the PCs find it and use it?

The bone armor in OA is listed as Light armor, 20gp, +3 Armor Bonus, +4 Max Dex Bonus, -3 Armor Check, 15% Arcane Spell failure, 20 lb. Speed is listed as 20 ft, 30 ft, and 40 ft - for small, medium, and large creatures? Based on what I see in the 3.5 PBH it should probably be 30ft for medium-sized characters and 20ft for small ones.

Yes, I had thought that it was some kind of Hide armor, after all, it seemed very barbarianish. However those stats it should be a medium armor. Perhaps we should make the armor a masterwork Hide armor for use by barbarians? If so, I would include it then into the tanner's shop inventory as i don't believe it's in the game.

The text description in OA says "Bone armor is sometimes worn by nezumi or barbarian soldiers or sorcerors." In the Rokugan setting from OA, barbarians and sorcerors are lumped together as 'outsiders' or 'Outlanders', which is not necessarily the case in other campaigns. So it seems you're right on the money with the barbarian usage in the context of ToEE.
