Re: Whatever Happened To ... I start a new job as Director of IT on September 6th, 2011. I am really stoked. Thank You, Lord Jesus.
Re: Whatever Happened To ... Congratulations, Director! Let me know if you have a good paying job for me near my area! Don't "Move on in life" too much and become a stranger here. Of course, it is very hard to be stranger than most of us here...
OK, so you're an "IT" director ... are you going to tell us what "it" is. :aaaa: Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week and don't forget to tip your waitress.
Can someone explain to me what probability, coincidence and synchronicity are? And the differences? I am not interested in a detailed mathematical or physics explanation, but more or less how you determine which of them applies in a day to day situation. I've read what wikipedia says about them and it is way over my head. However, with all the intellect on this forum, I'm sure some of you can and will get in deep on this subject
I could delve into mathematics, especially since I teach some aspects of "probability" (namely - risk) to students, but you asked not to... Very well... Probability - a measure of how likely is an event to happen. Coincidence - when several events happen simultaneously (or, if we consider event chains - one after another). May imply that it is unknown if they are really connected, or their simultaneous/successive appearance was random. Synchronisity - when several events happen simultaneously, especially when chains of like events happen simultaneously, like when synchronous swimmers perform.
LOL SM I had to read this 3 times before I realised that you have said what I was going to say, just in differnt words. I would've said a coincidence was when some events happen really close together which seem to be related but theres a good chance that they're not, or that a similar previous event has a similar outcome but in both cases the outcome may not actually be related to the event. it's how superstions can begin ie "I crossed my fingers for luck and I won, but thats Probably just a Coincidence"
It all falls under perception, what or how do we perceive an event, action or chain of occurrences to be related. Remember, we may all see the same thing ... but we may and quite often do, interpret it differently.
