I shall try that...thank you. I didn't know the command but I suspected there might be one. I'll report back if that works.
The day is sunny and bright once again. The birds are chirping happily. Ty, very much marc1967. That just fixed my game. Elmo is back in the group and all is well. I'm sure I would have ran into quest problems and such, but I had a plan incase I couldn't go back into hommlet. Basically, always knock out the guards. Travel rogue invisible to the merchants I needed to sell stuff to (gem merchant, for example)...and don't go into Nulb's Smithy during the night as Elmo's brother would be in there & he would attack on sight. I may have been able to limp my way to the End Game but not sure as I don't know how Verbobonc would have interacted with it all. Now...don't have to find out! Thank you so much as my Iron Man is back on track. I don't mind using the console fix because I didn't do anything to justify the glitch to begin with. Again...Thanx!
Woah... I did the nodes and all went fairly well up until the final Fire Node Boss. The 1st turn summoned Balor demon it brought into the fight, didn't care about the Protection from Evil spell placed on all my party members. It's spells & melee damage wrecked my guys and made the fight almost a loss. I survived...with 3 players dead...one of which was...dun, dun, dun...Elmo. I picked up & identified the Node Gem to add to the other 3...and then got myself back to Hommlet right away (first healing up, of course in case a bad random happened...). Going to Jaroo, I "reincarnated" my guys all back to life and used Restoration to give back what experience I could. One thing...Jaroo's greating was, "Your welcome is wearing thin here at the Grove." Yeah, I kinda went...ummm...uh, oh. Going into the Inn of the Welcome Wench made Elmo leave group & I had to flee combat to get out of it after an end task & game restart. Now...the above console fix no longer works, either. Hrmmm... Looks like I may need to go do it the hard way after all unless Gaear or another may know of a fix? I think I got really unlucky with Elmo being the one to go down and this creates a strange bug... *sigh* lol
One of many reasons I don't use Elmo. I hire him only to get the crossbow which I then sell for more than it cost to hire him. Aside from that, no thanks. You should not get the butcher rep from NPCs dieing on an adventure.
I plan on trying this up to 3 times to see if I can make it to a clean End Game with Iron Man. On this first attempt with this strange bug I'll push it as far as I can & complete what quests available. It's still fricken fun! LoL. I Holy spiked chain wielding melee monster cleaving bard just singing away as he rips through the enemy! It's just...fun!
Using the remove rep mentioned above in console ability takes away the Butcher Rep...allowing me to travel throughout Hommlet except for 2 locations. Burne's Tower & the Inn of the Welcome Wench. Common denominator says it's Burne's Badgers triggering hostility, however the guards walking the roads don't trigger. JFYI. I just had the Scather reward encounter. Time to go slice & dice...
Since I have not read all the various posts & history...I may talk about stuff that is common knowledge for some of you...but for me, this was a discovery so I thought I would share. An idea came across my mind that perhaps there was some way that I could have been able to destroy the Skull even though I have this glitch in my current IronMan game where the Badgers in the Inn & Tower attack me... Since it's only the Badgers (maybe Elmo also) that are going agro, I would go in at night and do non leathal on them until they lose consciousness. (Going at night let's you avoid fighting Burne & Rufus, etc.) Then going upstairs to give the apprentice the skull to be destroyed. Well...it worked just fine. That's just what I did. But along the way I was toying around with the dialogue options and I asked her to join the group. Upon opening her inventory...low and behold there was all the items I gave her to be destroyed. Now mind you...we did destroy the Skull in the dialog. Anyway, took back the items and put all the gems into the skull so they no longer take so much inventory space on my Wizard. Now, armed with this same strategy I'm going into the Inn of the Welcome Wench with the intent of knocking everyone out with non-leathel damage. Especially Elmo...as he has much of my gear upon him. Hopefully I'll be able to loot him while he sleeps it off. Then the next step is to get upstairs and get the fugitive, commonsworth?...into the group. Collect the other 2 and have them fight back for the big fight version of dealing with them. LoL...so that's the plan and I'm about to step into the Inn when next I play. I just thought it was some interesting information concerning the apprentice & the orb mostly. I'll letcha know if it all works out... (wink)
...again...woah... So I go into the Inn expecting them to agro, me cast prayer and prepare for fist to cuff's but...no agro. Even Elmo is willing to join back up. Meh? So I go upstairs, get the convict to join group and eventually have the big fight with all 3 at once for the first time that any of my groups have chosen that dialogue path. It sure was enjoyable. I liked their cockiness...lol...but they lasted 1.5 rounds...hehe. Now, since I have 2 slots available...I was thinking of completing the kidnapped kid/sewer quest. However, my spot check isn't very high so maybe the second Moat House first to gain a level or so. If this still doesn't get it high enough then off to the Orcs! LoL...this game is a hoot. I'm wondering if the Badgers are no longer agroing due to me destroying the Orb?
Ok...I'm thinking I'm done with this first push into the current 8.+ with my first ironman group as it appears I'm in some strange buggy loop. I'm at the War of the Golden Skull: Defender...and after speaking to the adventurer dude in the City Elder's house, he said wait a short time and patrol if you want. Well, I have waited the 2+ days and due to the strange bug experienced before, when ever I rest outside...2-4 random badger guards spawn and shout, "Death to the Butcher of Hommlet!" So...like after beating them all into uncontiousness with over 100pnts of damage each to keep them down...I end up with these guys litterly littered all over the land scape & in buildings if I "rested" there...lol. During all this...including resting more days than 2, leaving hommlet and traveling all about including finishing the Gremlich quest...I never Fail the Defender quest. It just sits there in blue limbo and the guy in the Elder's house after I talk to him at night, etc., just keeps saying, "I have nothing new to report"...or something like that. *sigh* The sign post doesn't give me any new orders...and I think that's it. Overall...a pretty good run and though the glitches occurred...it was totally an awesome experience to push the group into the 15-17th range. I think next run through will be completely without Elmo (love the guy!) but it will help me avoid the unavoidable I had to deal with in this run. I do however, like Zaxis and if I find him...I'll take him in with for the Radiant spiked chain. So to summarize: I really enjoy the way you all have modified this great game. The changes are logical and scale nicely...even in Ironman mode. I'll be starting the next group most likely right away but I'll not do updates with it as I did with this first trip through. Thank you for reading my first newest updated Ironman run and may the dice roll your way...
You can rest in an inn while waiting for the attack to start, I do. I believe the resting inside will mess things up once the attack has started. Also, the fella you question to start the attack only shows up at night.
Yeah...I did all that but unfortunately, I got a glitch that spawned Badgers that attacked me no matter where I slept...and any NPC in the area joined the fight, Elmo would leave the group & attack me as well...so yeah, I think this one is done but I'm sure I could have completed it all if it weren't for the glitch. The final fight with the 4 IUZ's would have been the REAL challenge had I got that far... Ty for the thoughts, though!
Thank you, it's nice to be appreciated. I really, really enjoy the Ironman play...! If I defeat the 4 Iuz's at the end of my next attempt, I'll letcha all know how it goes since it's Ironman!
Or if you put up a good fight and they get you in the end, some of us want to know. I too have enjoyed reading about your adventure.
