I never even thought about that--about them gaining profits off of your mods.

I'm totally in, though not much I can do.

    u can count me in.....
ive played dungeon siege 1 and 2 , and neverwinter nights all 3 expansions. and now am totally hooked in toee and to be quite honest dungeon seige 2 sucked,it was nothin i expected at all.
toee now has great potential but lacks in quality and diversity which us as fans and players along with brilliant modders within co8 can add to toee to make it a smash hit...count me in all the way for as long as ur willin to put up a fight...(which i hope is never ending)

Honestly, of all the D&D games I've played ToEE seems to have the most potential, especially after seeing how far it's been taken by everyone here.

A modding kit for it would me fantastic, and it's even something I'd be totally content to pay for. New content with that wouldn't hurt.

It's weird how now the graphics are fairly dated, but it's still one of the most gorgeous games I've played inages...

So here's the question, what official places should responces be submitted too? Does anyone have an idea of what part of Atari holds the license?

I am fully supportive of this action. I half my own private belief that it will be ignored yet again though. My reasoning for this is as follows:

Over one year has passed since your original intent was made known to Atari. Upon ignoring you, it caused you to simply continue what you were doing, which is making mods for the game, etc. What do you think Atari has really been doing all this time? Definately not sitting on their hands. It is my firm belief that if you look into any of their new games you may just find a few of YOUR coding snippets in them.

Atari is a scavenger shark. I think for the past year they've sat back, watched the mods and patches come out, snagged them, and learned how to integrate your much better work into their own systems, thus scavenging off of all your hard effort without having to pay a dime for the coding.

So though I will more than gladly support an all out frontal assault of Atari in form of email, snail mail, phone lines, and even rented hot air balloons if needed (though perhaps bribing a window washer to use a grease stick on their corporate windows to leave the message would be more noticeable), I think they will do as they have done in the past, which is to ignore the request and keep leeching off your hard work.

I'm in. Co8 has made a good game great! I'd love to see more with this turn based game. Come on, Atari! Be a good corporate citizen and release it!

I personally have gotten 3 people to purchase ToEE in the bargain bin by directing them to Co8. So it does nothing but sell copies, whether that money is already in Atari's pockets is another story. It does grow Atari's brand name and may direct people to their other games.

    I was wondering about that.
I think it is to the best interests of the company itself (Atari) to release those tools since this would by all probability revive interest in a three-year-old game.
By means of example, one could witness what happened, not only with Neverwinter Nights, but also with Rome Total War. There are many people who still play BECAUSE of the mods.
It would cost next to nothing to the company to release these tools. They would not need to put them in a CD, they could simply release them online, in the same way that Creative Assembly (if I am not mistaken) released the expansion "Alexander" for Rome Total War.
In fact, they already have these tools, all they need to do is post them somewhere for people to download them (at a price, of course).
I think it is a win-win situation for Atari. It just doesn't make sense to hold onto these tools anymore, particularly now that Nevewinter Nights 2 is on the way.

And, as you understand, yes, I am in.

I just started Playing ToEE again because of the Co8 mods and will support any reasonable campaign that would lead to more of the fantastic mods and content!
I even had to go and buy a bargain bag copy due to the sad demise of my install
disc in an impromtu Goblin (ie: teenagers) CD frizbee fight! (Last copy in either
    close WM.)

    Thanks again

    just a heads-up,
I posted a topic on www.twcenter.net regarding this issue, 35 people have viewed it so far.
I will post on rome total realism when their forums get back online, hopefully more people will see it there.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to post in all game forums we are in. Just to get some publicity on this cause.
How about the forums of Atari? What if we started a topic there?

Agetian [on this board] should be asked and be given time to respond, first and before, any posts are made on other boards.

Well, the Atari community forums related to ToEE are pretty much dead. I think no one even cares to administrate or moderate them anymore, and only few people ever visit it, some of them are our members by the way. Actually, if you search the Atari community forums you'll find at least a couple posts related to the release request of the ToEE toolset, which were merely ignored by the Atari members (*if* they've seen it of course, because they're known not to care about their ToEE support forum for a long long while).

Even though I don't think that extra publicity on non-ToEE related sites may be of serious help, I don't mind the information being posted somewhere as long as it's not regarded as spamming on that board. You see, we can't really post about this on every gaming board out there, because we'll be called spammers rather fast, and the publicity will be negative instead of the required positive. So, I'm not really positive about posting it everywhere where it's technically possible.

As I said, we need a carefully planned action here. If someone from our core team is ready to back the request (especially in the US, and willing to mail a bunch of letters to the Atari office ;)) and if we decide that we do need to take a chance and act like that, we sure can. However, after a long discussion with people who probably know Atari better than I do (e.g. Taluntain) I came to a conclusion that now might be just *not* the right time. I guess it'd be wise to wait until NWN2 is launched. Hopefully, if sales go well for this game, Atari may be more willing to listen to our requests to release tools for an older game.

Unfortunately, Atari is on the verge of bankrupcy, and that's why abandoning all other projects except for their current ones which may save its business life. This may sound weird (and it does to me, even after all reasoning on the side of people who have been in the gaming business for a long time), but history knows many examples of this happening (e.g. Sega abandoning its older 16-bit Genesis console and all its games in favor of the following 32-bit Saturn console in a desperate attempt to save itself from bankrupcy, while it wasn't the wisest move since 16-bit market was still strong for more than a year afterwards). Therefore, I don't think Atari will ever listen until and unless it's sure in its most current "safe" move.

Once again, I'm open to suggestions, guys. It's your call. ;)

Don't want to be a downer, but with D&D being a continually licensed franchise, I doubt it's even legal for them to release tools, based on copyrighted rules, which will be used to generate D&D content.

Whether it's for profit or not is beside the point. Atari would be facilitating the generation of D&D content which would compete with that of other licensees. It might even be part of their licensing agreement not to do this.
