Well, certainly worth letting people know about it, sure. And no, I didn't know about it. Thanks for that.

Ok, here we go: instead of red flames, the beetles now spit a glorious rolling cloud of green vapour. :D

Btw, I think they should only do this once, not every attack, but that's just me.

@Allyx, were you able to doing anything with my saved game that I posted and the odd stop/jerky motion in those two areas?

    that sounds neat.

It'd be a shame to only see this special effect just once, though. Maybe once during battle and once more when they die? Kinda like how a skunk emits its foul odor when it dies.

@FDR4PREZ: In IWD they only do it once, In think. And there's a map later on (Dragon's Eye, level 2) with so many of those beetles, that you'll see plenty of it... :)

Yay, sorry, it has been about 15 years since I last played IWD, so I don't recall too much of it.

Yeah, sorry if there was any ambiguity, what I am saying is each critter should fire his breath weapon only to start combat, a la those big wyverny things with breath weapons, then wade n with bite and claw. But they do occur multiple times, and I'll put that back in KotB where it belongs, so the effect won't be wasted.

In IWD they're more of a gas spore, blowing up on death, aren't they? Either way :)

Sorry guys, I've been really rather lazy these last couple of weeks, but I hope to fix the remaining issues ready for a New Year release date, I have a week off work between Christmas day and New Years day to finish everything off.

Tried this version with my Steam version of IWD today, I activated a non-IWD module, then attempted to activate IWD again, it asked for the Infinity .KEY file, so I pointed it to my D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition\chitin.key and click open at which point nothing happens. :(

I've not yet looked into this issue, mostly because I'm not sure what would be causing it, and thus not sure how to fix it, but I will, and I'll let you know of anything I find out as and when I do.

@Shiningted, thanks for the acid splash effects, I'll add those and check them out in game. I assume removing the multiple instances of the spell in the creature's protos tab entry will remove the extra castings of the spell in game? the strategy.tab line only lists one casting IIRC for the Beetle strategy.

OK, since it'll be a few weeks before you are able to provide another patch for testing, I can use this time to reload everything from scratch and retest these areas.

I find it odd that no one else is having trouble when it is so repeatable for me, so maybe if I dump it all and retry I will see something different.

    Never that easy, huh

Can you send me the chitin.key file?
If I have no choice I'll buy the steam version and try it myself, but that would be a bummer since I already bought the game twice...

Yup, casters will cast as many spells as they have in their protos.tab (sorcerers being an exception).

Re FDR's problem, I also got it in the area outside the beetle cave (after I slept in the beetle cave and the Gob bodies evaporated). As soon as I started picking up loot, after 3 or 4 items it went away. Seems to be some sort of overload of objects. no idea why it didn't occur on similar maps in ToEE. It's an annoyance but there is a good chance players won't even see it, presumably they have to rest in a dangerous place without looting first which are two unlikely things in a proper game.

FDR, if you are replaying, could you please keep an eye on the random_encounter file and see what happens when sleeping etc. Everything should be fixed now.

Al, I'll have a crack at adding the videos to sleeping :)

Cheers Ted, I did add a line of code to the caravan map orc to set the script id to 0 after setting the vars and triggering the run off command, that should fix the resetting vars issue.

I will try the save you sent FDR, I'm hoping to isolate the exact item that causes the issue so I can delete it and replace it with one that doesn't cause issues.

OK, I re-downloaded the IWD.zip, the patch 6, and the updated misc files that you've provided in various recent posts. I did not test the new TFE-X. I wasn't able to install my old IWD into Win7, so I installed it in an XP box and I copied the folder to my Win7 laptop that I use. I can test the new TFE-X later this week.

The jerky motion is still there, but I wasn't expecting it to change.

The RE while resting seems to be working OK. I checked the Orc cave, the Pass, and the Mill. And now if you kill Ghereg his tower is now green. Kuldahar is now set to pass time.

Ted, I really like the new green gas effect of the beetles.

On a side note: I did try and play a little of the original IWD on my WinXP box, but I come remember that I don't really like the combat system in these games. I might as well play through to Chapter 1.

Vampiric Puppy gets the credit for that effect. Glad you like it though :)
