Hehe, the threads' not dead, but I have been busy with christmas decorations for the last couple of days, the GF isn't happy until the glistening of the fairy lights reflected off of tinsel can be seen from the international space station...

@Sitra Achara, I have contacted @Agetian who says the source code for TFE-X should be in with the other files - probably in the stand-alone version of TFE-X rather than with the Co8 modpack.

Ok Al, got to the bottom of the Hrothgar quest thing: game.global_vars[3] doesn't turn to 2 unless you actually read the note on the Orc (I am assuming you put it in the san_use). Probably a lot of people don't bother reading it, they just pick it up and head back to Hrothgar to report. I'll leave it up to you how you want to fix it.

Funny thing - when I was testing, my global var[3] was 1 (from the orc outside the Cave). Thing is, I'd already gone back and told Hrothgar and completed the quest, which should have set the var to 4 . Apparently it didn't but looking at Hrothgar's dlg I can't see the problem. Perhaps something set it back to 1 again - did the Orc outside the Cave have a unique death routine or did you put it on a generic Orc and they all fire it?

Off to take the note to Gaspar and see what he says.

The note is on the Ogre, I could add it to his dying script instead I guess.

I did get the good ending bit when I went off and killed the Ogre BEFORE meeting Hrothgar in his house, could Hrothgar's dialogue or script be resetting it after you return to him?Is

Is it possible the Orc resets the vars while run_off? Like when passing his location on the way out of the cave?

Gaspar will take the letter if you have it by checking the proto id whether you read it or not, might be worth altering his requirement to reading the san use bit

@Allyx - From looking at the GameBanshee site, the Elisia quest(s) are not being rewarded for the same tasks.

    For example:

it says that you get XP for singing to her, but I did not receive anything.

I did get an XP bump for learning her song.

It says that you get XP for delivering the broken sword to him, but I did not receive anything

I did get the XP and pearl for reporting back to her.

so are there only two XP rewards for this quest instead of 4?

I have not attempted to demand proof of her intentions to get the extra gems. Is this a dialog possibility?

    From GameBanshee:
    Elisia

Elisia, the spirit of the lake (so to speak), is standing here near the rocks. If you've spoken with Jhonen at area #4, then this is the woman you'll want to speak with concerning his dreams. If the character who speaks to her is a Bard, you can earn 1200 experience for playing a song to her and another 1200 experience for learning her song. Regardless of your class, Elisia will tell you that she has recovered a broken blade used by Jhonen's ancestor to strike a mortal blow to the dragon Icasaracht. She would like for you to return this blade to Jhonen for her. If you want, you can demand proof of her intentions, which will earn you some gems worth 75 gold. Bringing the broken blade of Aihonen to Jhonen will earn you another 1200 experience. Reporting your success to Elisia nets you an additional 1200 experience points and a Pearl.

The little boy in the Mill is now hiding in the closet. After you open the door and start dialog the door closes again. When you finish the dialog, then he will reopen it himself and run away. Should (or could) the door stay open during this dialog?

Also, there are still no quest log and XP for this 'quest'.

Is it possible to hide the door so that you must do an active search for it? I think this is how it was in the original game.

The door wasn't hidden in IWD, the door closing I can fix (I think) by unchecking the OPF_not_sticky flag, or replace the door with one not flagged not_sticky in protos.tab.

We can add a quest or something to award xp for learning Elisias song.

You already get 100XP for learning her song when your bard select's that dialog option, so can't you do the same for singing to her? That dialog option is there already to sing to her.

So I don't think it needs to be a separate quest. Just need to award the proper dialog choice if your bard is doing the talking.

Ah, I misread your message, I've not long woken up. That shouldn't be a problem either.

I found another walkthrough and it talks about stealing stuff from Hrothgar's house and stealing potions from Everard himself. That's some risky business

It also lists locations for random loot to be had from around town: a wolf pelt, gems, money, scrolls, "fine dagger", etc.

I've never checked these locations to see if they are there in our game.

It just occurred to me that NearInfinity is also written in Java, same as TFE-X. With the author's permission we could probably reuse the code for viewing and extracting the TIS files (I'm mainly missing the PVRZ format, but his implementation is more general anyway).

I said Ogre. If it reads 'Orc' you probably have one of those dodgy European monitors :p

I'll go back and replay and see where the number resets (if at all). Also, I get what you are saying about Gaspar and will fix it. But that assumes you are leaving the flag change on the san_use of the letter? Maybe change that to a flag and put the var change that advances Hrothgar's quest on the Ogre's san_dying, and Gaspar can check for the flag. We got flags to burn atm ;)

Also, note that I didn't light little Billy's door to make it hard to see. Or just flag it no_light in general. Global lighting may ruin all that.

EDIT: Ok finished RE file, much testing to do. Claimed flags 18 and 19 to account for Ghereg's death, and for reading the contract. Updated files to follow shortly.

2nd EDIT: Sorry Al, nuancing will have to wait til tomorrow. Here at least is the RE file that seems to work. The caravan map already worked, Orc Caves spawn Orcs until global_var >= 2 (the Ogre is dead?), then normal dungeon stuff (ticks and snakes and such), and KP maps do Orcs, goblins and beetles. Ghereg's file included.

Ok, here is Gaspar's new files, note that this .py file builds on the previous one I posted a couple days ago. This allows you to tell him about the caravan if you have the contract on you, but you only mention Ilmus Gallway if you actually read the thing. Tested :)

As mentioned, I'll leave it up to you to add the change for global_vars[3] to the Ogre's death thing if you want to play it that way.

Still looking for the reason the var goes back to 1 (if indeed it was ever 4).

EDIT: Ok Al, you were right - I had a save where I had just completed the quest and var[3] was at 4, then when I went back to the Orc Cave it immediately changed to 1. I suspect it is that business discovered previously in the Co8 mod that run_off characters don't really go anywhere. Damn them!

No harm in asking I guess, argent77 on beamdog.com forums wrote the most recent Near Infinity version.

    I guess that's a yes then :)

Am I fairly safe in assuming you will be doing the necessary work on this @Sitra Achara as I wouldn't even know where to start on it, and you'd need it for IWD II eventually anyway? :D

If I thought for a split second I might be able to accomplish the task, I would of course give it a good crack, but apparently Grognards don't scale to my level. ;)
