Much of the Journal system will need to be truncated at least, or rewritten from scratch for use in the ToEE quest log.

The journal entries seem to be far more wordy than ToEE can handle, though I'm not certain if there is a hard limit to the number of characters the quest log can handle, but since the IWD journal text is written from a first person perspective anyway, it would seem out of place in ToEE quest log which is written as more of a concise, factual account of events.

You could actually do that with slides too if you were really determined - make a bunch of slides containing the journal text and make a book with dialog scripts that fire them when you read it.

ToEE quest log book thing text is limited by the graphics of the book layout btw.

@Gaear I actually quite like that idea, can books in ToEE be made no_drop for player characters? Or did you have a different method than carrying an actual journal around with the party?

@Shiningted I've attached some edited Inn room replacement tiles to remove the painted on map doors for your convenience, I'll tackle the Easthaven night map positioning error next.

Well I've never actually done it but I was thinking an actual book in your inventory. I imagine they could be no drop.

For that matter you could probably do it like a diary too (Lareth's etc.), which I think is tied into the Help system IIRC. (So scrollable text in a box.)

The edited Easthaven night time map ^^ tested in game and seems to work just fine, You'll need to remove the current images in that folder before replacing them with these files.

Now I gotta figure out the mini map thing again... *sigh @Jota my old friend*

For anyone wishing to see for themselves first hand what has been completed so far, the following is a link to our compiled work so far.
Install ToEE as normal, Patch 1 & 2, Co8 8.1.0 New Content Edition, activate the module, then copy/paste the contents of the IWD folder linked here to your root directory.

WARNING: it is a large file, some 473 megs so far, but it does include the intro cinematic movies, and end movies for both IWD and the Heart Winter Epansion.

EDIT: File downloads moved to this thread

I have put those video's in a separate file, as they most likely will only be needed once at most, whereas the other file will be updated regularly.

@Gaear does Moddb have a way of hosting mods in development, and not ready for public release? IE - downloadable for contributors, perhaps password locked.

The 'journal with slides' idea is intriguing... would look great, Gaear were you thinking of the slide queueing thing for the endlsides? The scrollable text in a box thing would also be great but can't really control what is shown (no 'if... then's that way) so would have to have a large array of linked boxes set up in advance (so to speak). Not sure if that makes sense, but there are variant journal entries each step of the way - "I told Bob about X not Y / I told Bob about Y not X / I killed Bob without telling him anything" - so links would have to pre-empt where you were going and not show the wrong thing, you can't do your choices as you go that way.

EDIT: Things can totally be no_drop, think the secret door tool in KotB. But if someone throws their journal away, that's their business.

Are you thinking of adding an extrademisional chest to IWD to make up for the lost inventory space? It's my opinion that inventory space is already at a premium in the TOEE engine.

IWD allows players to purchase both scroll cases and potion cases for storing these specific types of items, and while I've not seen if there is a Bag of Holding, or Extraplanar Chest of some description in IWD yet, I would certainly be including the option to cast the Extraplanar Chest spell.

As to whether that would stretch to adding scrolls containing the spell where any 4th level party could find them remains to be seen. ;)

Yeah, it's already used extensively elsewhere in the modpack. (Just not the actual endlside part that ends the game.)

Yeah, I guess the diary conditions aren't in script form, are they? Hyperlinks would probably be goofy, as I assume they'd have to basically ask questions, like "Did you tell Bob about X ...? Click here if so ..."

edit - unless you wanted to always give the player a bunch of different 'entries,' ala the Verbobonc notices, based on independent scripts. But then you'd end up with an inventory full of those.

Allyx, the bag of holding is in the items available to the game engine, but in my many play throughs of the game I am yet to see one actually in the vanilla game world. At least items of the same do stack.

I'll just go back to being quite unless I actually have something to add that might help. ;)

@sirchet I've yet to complete chapter 1 of IWD so far, so you know better than I at this point.

On that note, any thoughts from the Co8 community who have played IWD that may be relevant to this project, you are of course more than welcome to voice them.

I've now made a slide image for each of the chapters, chapter 3 was trickiest as the box wasn't big enough to contain all the text whereas the others could, so I made the box larger and adjusted the background image brightness and saturation, blended them together and added the remaining text. Chapter 0.jpg Chapter 1.jpg Chapter 2.jpg Chapter 3.jpg Chapter 4.jpg Chapter 5.jpg Chapter 6.jpg
I am having difficulty locating the voice overs for these scenes though. @ineth would you happen to know where I could find them?

Awesome, thanks man, I'll have those added to the game and the prologue one linked up to the shopmap dialogue that teleports you there soon.

I've also started adding mobs for the various critters in Easthaven, the wolf, the Goblins, and the townsfolk on the main map, will need to alter their dialogues and stats in protons tab obviously, but it's a start :D

I also downloaded a 2nd ed to 3.5 ed conversion guide this morning so I can have a crack at remaking the IWD default characters... Gorion the Berserker has 18/98 strength in IWD... That equates to 22 in 3.5 ed so he may be nerfed just a bit. ;)
