If you forgot to pick it up where you last left it it "fizzles" just like you explained when you go to bring it back out at Brother Smyths, or anywhere else you try to bring it out.

You are very experienced at this game and in this forum, so I feel like a fool for saying this, but your description sounds EXACTLY like when you actually forgot to put it up and one location, then try to bring it out at another....

 

Same here. I have a standard recovery drill now.

Also, I experience the same thing when I leave my Viagra behind after a random encounter.

 

i just fisnihed a playthru and discovered that all unidentified wands i put into the chest disappeared (you loot some wands and put them into the chest with all the other loot and later in Nulb when selling stuff everything comes out of the chest except the wands...which are gone) , is that normal?

 

I think it's meant to prevent the re-charge exploit.

See, the Extraplanar Chest doesn't really store the items themselves, rather it makes a list of every type of item you put inside it (+quantity) and saves it to a file. When it goes away to the other plane, everything inside it is actually destroyed, and when it's called back, new items are generated according to the saved list.
Unfortunately, we can't read or adjust the number of charges left in magical items, so those kind of items aren't saved when the EC is sent to the other plane to prevent a recharge exploit.
Likewise, player-enchanted items will be reset because the python scripting doesn't allow for reading or writing item enchantments.
IIRC, the note inside the EC that appears when you first summon it gives those warnings.

 

ok now i know it, i read the note and never put crafted items into it... but i didn't remember having read something about wands, ah nevermind

Hmm.. I never thought of that. I THINK that I always "took it with me" after filling it in the temple, but I might have goofed. I'll see what happens when I reactivate 5.6 .

What's annoying is being arrested in the Keep for failing to put your Weapon away.

 

Never give this item to any females in the party. They will go from 36DDD-25-36 down to 25-25-36. What do you think extraplanar chest means?! It's a cursed item! Makes them go from the rocky mountain range down to raisens-on-plates in no time and start to look like your little brother!
