Elmo never admits to being anything other than a "man-at-arms"; he never even says he is a ranger, much less an agent of the Viscount. The module doesn't say how to handle it 'cause it leaves that aspect up to the DM, and I only mentioned it to further this discussion. Who reveals what to whom is a matter of life & death to those involved. Can you imagine Murfles & Mother Screng being visited in the night by the Traders from Hommlet bent on murder? Could they take Smigmal Redhand without help? They could just send the same assasin who avenges Lareth. I don't think that any of these outcomes would be favorable for the ladies... Elmo should stop "pretending at inebriation" once he gets recruited. By any party. If he can barely stand up, how could he possibly fight? And anyone who says "drunken" fighting style means you actually have to BE drunk is in for a bout of Sh!t K!cking.
I'm sorry, maybe I'm the only one, but I LIKE him DRUNK. Yes, I like the "Drunken Fighting style" whether or not he acts like it during much of Combat. Also, while you are right you don't get all the bonuses of Druken Fighting Style when not drunk, such as High Pain Threshold, as a martial artist who does this style I have to tell you you certainly DO NOT have to be drunk. In fact I switch to this style when I'm exhausted in a match as it allows you to rest in many of the off-balance swaying and lying stances, it's very natural to want to walk and move differently like this when tired and allows better effectiveness. Also at tournaments when I do drunken fighting style most times you CANNOT be drunk due to rules and even my choice and you do your forms and sparring sober but with all the usual swaying, rolling, lying and off-balance techniques only to regain balance with a power strike from the kinetic drop/change. But back to the game, I LIKE him drunk. Leave him so, make it an option to have him not drunk rather than default.
MG, this thread has been dead for almost 6 months now. The decision was made long ago and implemented in 4.0.1, and no carried over into 5.0.0. Pay attention man! In some forums Necroposting is a bannable offense.
