could you give us an example of something that has the different wording? At the moment I would say only change it if the inconsisancy bugs you (this is on the description right? It could be that different people handled different item types and formatted it their personal way)
Yeah, Prior to Identify it Just says Amulet. After Identify, on rollover it says Amulet of Wisdom +2 ~|~ Base AC +0; Attribute Bonus: Wisdom +2 or Amulet of Wisdom +2 ~|~ Attribute Bonus: Wisdom +2
Couple things here... Given that CMP is in the business of maintaining the rules for 3.0 & 3.5 rule sets, and we have a direct line to WotC, if you have major issues needing clarification, I'll be more than happy to answer or relay questions about rules... That said... and Enhancement Bonus is just a "Type" of bonus... same name boni do NOT stack... So if Armor gives you an Enhancement Bonus, and Bracers of Armor (magic) gives you an Enhancement bonus, then whatever bonus is higher wins... i.e. Armor gives a +4 Enhancement to AC and Bracers of Armor give a +3, then the Armor wins... if the Bracers were to give a +5 then the Bracers win... There's nothing special about the names beyond that... if it's the same name, no problem, no stacking... if it's different named boni, then they do stack. That help clarify things or just make it worse?
Ok I can see where you are going with this now I would not put: 'base AC +0' as 'armor bonus +0' Would be more accurate (only the armor you wear, or bracers of armor should give you a 'base AC' anything else gives you an armor bonus). If you are editing items for comprehension then it might be useful for those not in the know which items do and don't give AC, however if the items that _do_ give AC explicitly state that (eg. ring of protection +1 ~|~ Armor bonus +1) then items that do not state they give an armor bonus should (in theory) be view as not giving AC be default ---edit--- lol! need to speed my typing up!
coo. But what about this situation? {6049}{Chainmail +1 ~|~ Armor bonus +5; Armor Enhancement Bonus +1} Just to make things clear we are not talking about how the game handles these values.. merely what is presented to the user after an identify has been done. (IOTW, details)
That looks good. is that what it looks like now or what you will change it too? (chainmail +1 with an AC of 5 plus +1 enhancement bonus)
Ah okay, misunderstood... I like the presentation you've suggested. It's very clear... just need to make sure that in the help file somewhere the type of boni are explained to people (i.e. wth is an 'Enhancement' - most layman or newcomers to the game of D&D may not know this).
Agreed Mynex. But for further clarification, regular armor and bracers of armor both give an "armor bonus" to AC. Enhancement is elsewise. Hey now thats cool: if you had uber Bracers of Armor +8 and had magical Studded Leather +3 (plain studded leather is AC +3) you can get away with a total AC bonus of +11 while still in light armor
nope sorry - the enhancement bonus on the armor applies to the armor not you. So with that combo you would still have armor bonus of +8.
Right, Arcane12 has it correct... the overall AC bonus is deduced from the TYPE of boni (we went round and round over this on PCGen over a year ago before we had direct access to WotC *sigh*)... it's a really screwy setup to learn, but once you get it down, you've got it for life (kinda like herpes and luggage. )
Alright, Just found something I can't explain anyone care to comment? Some ofthe crappier weapons had a to hit bonus of -1... But I don't know what to make of this.. {4177}{Masterwork light crossbow ~|~ Crossbow (-1) Weapon Masterwork} {4178}{Masterwork heavy crossbow ~|~ Crossbow (-1) Weapon Masterwork}
Howdy, folks. I'd like to add a huge "Good Work!" to everyone else's. I'm a more than fair hand with the D&D rules. And willing to pop in & help if needed. First off, I can't think of a single instance where a masterwork weapon should have a -1 to anything. It's pretty senseless. Second and more importantly, since it looks like the SRD is being referenced a lot at the moment, a more readable version may be of assistance. Check this one out... http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/ -O
The masses have been hollering about bows and things being bugged.. it would be a shame if they were right...to paraphrase Capt Jack... There'll be no living with them now... Of course.. if this is a statistical bug, would be nice to include this with FanFixes #1 or whatever we decided on... a nice, publicly debated issue being resolved...
