Just a new observation on my part, but while starting a new game in WB i was amused with the animation of Goblins doing a back flip as they came out one at a time to attack my party. Any other observe this or other funny stuff in this area?
To Gaear, I had no troubles with either crashes or with the lock on the chest. I still think this is a cool addition to the game and makes a new party think as they explore.
Not sure if any others have discovered this, but when you enter the final area before the battle with Mathel, you have the two groups of Kobolds. The father one will be in front of the door that Mathel will be awaiting the pleasure of your confrontation. Nothing major, but was something that finally triggered my attention.
whats with the Friendly Goblin and Kobold leaders after you kill Mathel? They just walk out of his chestroom, past my party, before parking themselves in front of a large double door that contains an... Empty room? Am I doing something wrong?
My guess would be that you were there when the time changed from day to night (or vice versa) so they were doing their room change - Mathel and his group change rooms depending on the time of day. Interesting though that it sounds like combat stopped so they could do that.
no, combat didn't stop. I had killed Mathel, the undead gnoll and the live gnoll. After they were all dead I tried looting the burning flame (which I didn't manage for reasons I found out later), when I heard footsteps. "Odd", I thought, and braced for another fight. Then these two leadercritters come prancing out of the chestroom, green and friendly. They just walk right past me and into the next room where the double doors and the empty room is. They never turned hostile, even after they stopped walking.
The goblin and kobold were definitely moving to their alternate standpoints, so you must have been on the map (either arrived or passed time) when day changed to night or vice versa. You can see NPCs do that in Hommlet if you pass time in their homes and they have different day/night stands. They didn't attack you independantly because they are not KOS - Mathel has to make a speech when you encounter him, and KOS creatures always override any heartbeat speech-making, so his buddies can't be KOS. The weird thing is that they should have already all been together though, and they should have fought you when Mathel did. Meh, fluke.
I am sure that this comment is too late, but would it be possible to have the boss be type human but with certain undead immunities, such as vs. sleep, paralysis - but not, for example, vs. sneak attacks?
I'm just wondering what exactly he is, because I destroyed him with a 3rd level cleric with greater turning.
From the description in the story from the Militia Captain, it seems like he is a failed attempt of a mage turning into a lich. A wretched thing caught halfway and not at any level of real powers. That is why he has low hp and leve powersl.
My level 1 cleric with the Sun domain and the Improved Turning feat always destroys Mathel with Greater Turning. If my cleric wasn't able to do that or be able to turn Mathel, then that combat would be extremely difficult for my party of level 1 characters because Mathel is a veritable killing machine when he gets stuck into level 1 characters!
Mathel is straight undead. He used to be somewhere in between, but players had trouble accepting not being able to turn him, etc.
Maybe Mathel should have a better saving throw against turning imo. I rebuked him on first try when even the gnoll skeleton was only "cowering". Although, he refused to fight on my side for some reason and just stood there.
