I recommend updating to the latest version. Gaear seems to have solved the problem (whatever it was) around 7.5 or 7.6.

I don't know how I missed this before, but the movie map when Ariakas is explaining the situation at the beginning has a grammar error. It has "...the have posted guards..." instead of "...they have posted guards".

Gah ... that will have to be fixed, but probably later than sooner.

I just finished the WotGS under v7.7. The good news is there was no jerkstop, but there was some fairly epic lag. At one point, I had to kill the process because it was consuming 50% of my processing power with no end in sight. On the plus side, I think we can safely say one more cloth merchant is a confirmed good idea for the Merchant's Row. Dame Nelly had exactly two open slots left after I finished offloading all the loot from the Hextorites. If the regular tailor in Hommlet had had any more stuff in his inventory when I started, I'd have had to wait for one or the other to refresh before selling everything off. One oddity I noted was no flames at the Church, but extra flames (when compared to previous versions) at the Tower. Lag was worse where there were flames.

Would it be possible to remove the leaves off the trees on the combat map. It would help a number of fights that currently are fought blind because of tree cover. I think it would give the map a more "destruction by fire from the sky" look.

No. We could remove the trees altogether, but that wouldn't make sense for Hommlet to have them one moment and not the next.

Where are there fights obscured by trees? I can think of two - Town Elder and The Grove.

Also behind the church, but the other two are more of a problem. If you take them out you could blacken the ground where they were.

The Southwest road guards are also obscured by a tree.

Having an NPC-related problem going through this. I'm using 7.8 NC and going through WotGS for the first time with a lawful evil party. After Ariakas gives his speech and announces the Hextorites are invading, I switch out my Hextor cleric to be the party leader.

My cleric talks to Warfield, they agree to team up and attack the town, and Warfield becomes a temporary party member. Once I try to take him through an area transition however, Warfield disappears from both my party and the gameworld, and I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out what's causing it. I'm using a fresh GoG install with only the 7.8 mod, and the only variables I've tampered with was setting delayed fireball blast to 0 and increasing the party limit from 5 members to 6. Has anyone else run into a similar problem?

What do you mean by an area transition? I am sure leaving WOTGS Hommlet when fighting for the forces of good (as well as resting of course) results in immediate victory for the Hextorites - so I imagine you made yourself surplus to requirements.....

Sorry, should've been more clear. I didn't mean leaving the area or resting, but going into another map from the hommlet battleground where wakefield joins. Like, if I go back into the elder's house after recruiting him, the new map loads in but wakefield is gone and I'm back to my original 6 man party with no trace of him anywhere in my game afterwards.

Wow, that was quite an oversight on my part - looks like it's been going on for a while too. I imagine not many players choose the Hextor option though.

Anyway it's just the old scripting that made Wakefield bug out if you went somewhere else on the worldmap, but since we switched WotGS to its own map, the worldmap is not even accessible, so there is no need. (And in fact the scripting was faulty anyway since it leads to trouble like this.)

Please download the attached file and copy it to your ToEE/data/scr folder and overwrite what's there. Then go back to a save before Wakefield took off and he won't do that anymore.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

Not a problem, thanks for the quick reply! The fix worked like a charm and the bug is gone now.

I don't usually play evil parties myself, either, but it's a great challenge to not be able to use the strength domains or the power of holy weapons/fragarach/scather in a playthrough. The fights get tougher and it can feel a lot more satisfying to win some of the encounters for me.

So I have just finished the Defender section of WOTGS in 7.8 NC. I am certainly enjoying it, after a period in Verbo without a lot to do/combat (certainly welcome moving the rest of HB etc to Verbo to up the adventuring part).

I did WOTGS as soon as I could, but having never done it before did not 'know the path to get it quickly', so to speak, so my characters were levels 13-14 when they started it. Perhaps this suggests the level it should be targeted at? Some things that I thought would get it even better:

    1) the fights were not hard enough. Specifically a couple of them need a different mix of opponents and some element of surprise (different character types, a mage or cleric off to one side, more than one of them, a large monster, etc). Also occasionally more spread out so they aren't quite such fireball fodder. Once out of the Town Council fight, the rest were fun but not in any way challenging, and even the TC fight hardly caused a sweat (1 healing potion consumed).

    2) The archers need beefing up, At the moment it's a bore waiting for them to fire, and they never hit. Can the animation for archery be speeded up in any way, or is that hard coded?

    3) I like the fact they don't drop much. Any chance that script can be extended to removing boots, helms, gloves and cloaks, then we can press take all to get the gold, rather than by hand doing each body?

    4) For some reason, these fights seem to be giving way too much experience for such simple challenges. Again, is that hard coded, because I have picked up 3 levels just in the Defender section and seriously don't deserve it.

Great fun though, love the effects, the intro cutscene, the chance to have a big battle in Hommlet - thanks for the continued work!

How did you get to WotGS by 14th level? I used to manage this prior to the rejegged order but in 7.8 it didn't activate until after I finished the slavers by which time my party of 5 were 17-18th level, which dialed the challenge down from potentially tricky wrt conserving spell resources to having unused ninth level slots left by the end.
