Am I the only one who likes to plan? What I mean by that is that when I was young, I used to try to figure out everything no matter how long it took. These days I have less patience and I've embraced the joy of planning. When playing a game with the Prima guide, I study the book and plan my character creation around the best gear in the game. I plan order of quests by the levels of the opposition and their capabilities. Some might think I'm ruining the surprises, but I'm old and crotchety and I am not fond of surprises, especially when it turns out I didn't do something at level 2 that I need now that I'm level 12. I love thinking about the coming actions and planning the enchanting and quests to go for particular items first. It's great fun for me, but perhaps I'm the only one who plays this way. For me though, the more "spoilers" and wikis and prima guides a game has, the more fun I know it is going to be. Heck sometimes I buy the guides even when I'm not playing the game. So what do you think. Am I all by myself in these joys? Thanks for all the cool add-in content, by the way.
I don't think you're all by yourself, as I'm sure the majority of ToEE replayers (of whom there are multitudes) are not replaying to recapture the magic of the drama of the story, lol. People replay ToEE for the turn-based combat, mainly. So in that sense, like you, they know what's coming, and that doesn't seem to take away from their enjoyment. Interestingly (perhaps), we've tried to take ToEE story up a notch in our added content, but only a notch really. (That's not hard to do when competing against Hommlet C&C.) Speaking on my own behalf, that's because I've noted what most players play ToEE for and thus it seems kind of pointless and silly to try to make it into something else. Therefore more focus has gone into designing challenging combats than making NPCs seem truly three-dimensional. I mean, there has to be something to them, but in the end, people want to fight the Slavers because it's a tactical challenge, not for any real PS:T type abstract fulfillment.
Yes, I like the tactical turn based combat. Even when I DM'd this adventure in the 2nd edition days (my group did the whole thing and it took quite a while a couple of hours at a time) there wasn't really much story. Though they did get an arch-enemy out of it -- Falrinth the Wizard. He took them to court in a LN court for breaking into his room and killing him ;-) A friend of mine gave me that idea and they had great satisfaction getting him afterward. There has always been a disconnect between our lawful modern anti-crime mentality and the concept of adventurers rampaging through the belongings of the evil ones.
Hey I just did the slavers. It was hideously difficult. Wow. I did it about 8 times at level 13 and I still had 1 death (and that was the good one). Arggghhh! See I'm not that hardcore -- I don't like to see my life (lives?) flash before my eyes during a fight. Those guys seemed higher level than me and they almost had better gear. Heck it took me 3 tries before I found conversational options that let me fight without being paralyzed.
I have 7.2 N.C, but I restored my current game from just 7.2.. I completed all the new brother smythe content but after he tells me about verbobonc I don't get any option anywhere to travel there. Why is this happening is there any way to fix it?
Have you examined the picture in post #391? (click on the picture for a larger version) Are you saying there is no text to the right of the world map saying "Path to Verbobonc"?
Also, what do you mean by "I have 7.2 N.C, but I restored my current game from just 7.2."? Verbobonc doesn't feature in 7.2 standard.
I started the current save that I'm playing with just the 7.2 standard. At some point in the save I downloaded 7.2 N.C. All the new content works great in this save. Except when brother Smythe tells me about count so and so only a purple highlighted quest is added and no way to get to verbobonc. I've Cleaned out the whole greater temple except the nodes. I've joined multiple temple factions, but no verbobonc. What bugs me the most is that Smythe even tells me about it but no travel option comes up on my map or to the right. This doesn't make sense because all the other new content worked (Hickory Branch, Welkwood Bog, Arena of Heroes, and so on. If it means anything I talked to Romag first through the blindfold option. Do you think maybe you could just give me the console command and see if that will open up Verbobonc. Also I have to keep the Skull in wonillons inventory becuase as soon as I trigger its video my game CTD's.
I'm always having to clean Out all toee related stuff except my saves, becuase of some dumb bug i can't find a way around. But everytime I re install everything I always run into another wierd bug that causes the game to CTD whenever I do something. This time everytime the game goes to any movie it CTD's. Any Ideas on how to fix this without re intalling everything
See 'The Circle of Eight Modpack Explained' banner above or in my sig for Troubleshooting advice. Also, saves from one modpack to another, even from NC to standard of the same version, are not compatible.
But back to my previous statement, why can't I get to verbobonc if everything else works. Is there a console command if brother smythe dialogue isn't triggering it?
Hey I'm starting to get extremely frustrated. I have re installed the game deleted everything and started from scratch. I'm using 7.3NC. Once again I go through the whole game this time with a fresh group, and what do you know brother smithy tells me about verbobonc and gives me the quest, but just like last time the exact same bug occurs. The quest appears as mentioned and I can't go there. No PATH TO VEBOBONC OR NOTHING. This time I did everything different, different mod-pack, different file destination, Start with new characters in a new save, but same exact problem. All i want to do is access verbobonc. The Only thing that is the same between the two times i tried it is that McAfee quarantined something i don't know what, and i never will because i need to renew my subscription.
Did you get the addon 7.3.1 patch?I have it and am in verb. now.You can find it towards the end of the general commentary thread.
Does the Verbo text link appear on the right side of the World Map screen? There is no icon on the World Map, as Verbo is farther away than the map shows, the only way to get there is to click the text link.
You say it shows up as mentioned? Did you accept the quest to go and see the brother's friend in Verbo-land? It might be worth talking to him again and see if he lets you re-accept it. Also, I had a very bad experience with McAfee, so bad that I ended up getting rid of it and going with AVG because it lets me edit the exceptions list, (which McAfee will not let you do, even with a paid subscription). McAfee told me to send them the file I wanted to exclude and they would examine it and if they found it to be harmless they would add it to the next update within a week or so. I have so many trainers and save game editors that it would be ridiculous for me to do what they wanted. With AVG I merely made a folder for all my trainers and such and told AVG that folder was off limits and everything runs fine.
