    Okay C-Blue, care to re-enable this encounter and adjust the Ambush Crew as described above?

    The Big 3, 3 crossbowmen, and maybe 8 or so gnolls (or some appropriate number).

    4 Crossbowmen (maybe one with some skill)
    6 Gnolls (maybe one with more HP)

    That ought to be tough enough.

    At the risk of disturbing the peace again with this issue, I'd just like to point out that I finally got to the new ambush using 5.0.0 with my 7-member party of 3rd level PCs, in fairly good shape after having fought Lareth (didn't get his spiders for some reason). The ambush posed a decent challenge to me and was an engaging battle, though it was never really in doubt. Most importantly, there were no automatic spellcaster kills from snipers and bumsrushing brigands, et al, which is something that always annoys me. So my final opinion on it is that it's an effective, moderately balanced encounter that enriches the game.

    Almost forgot: one little thing that would sort of ice this plotline would be to add some random comment from someone at the Welcome Wench a while after the battle (Ostler's wife, maybe) to the effect that Kobort, Zert, and Turuko haven't been seen around lately and are suspected of having fallen victim to foul play. Of course, this should only be said if those guys are actually dead. Care to check into that possibility, Rufnredde? ;)


    One last request (sorry to put this so bluntly, but I have no other choice): @Krunch, please don't use my ressurection of this thread as an opportunity to re-ignite the debate and get everyone riled up again. It's done. Leave it be, please.

    Kobort, Turuko and Lareth bug... or inconsistency. Firstly:
    Everyone is attacking my party, even though they have
    the Eye of the Flame cloaks on. o_O Secondly: Lareth
    attacked me on sight, so Turuko and Kobort did nothing
    to oppose, or at least propose to join the moathouse
    bandits. Thirdly: When I dumped them out of the party
    the encounter with Kobort, Turuko, Zert and the rest
    triggers... and the PCs can say: You're too late Lareth
    is already dead"! I think this needs a little polishing.

    Sadly, this sort of thing has been reported on the big three ambush since its inception. I've become tempted to just yank it altogether. :(

    Not sure I understand your second point, btw . . .

    The inconsistency in dialogue. You know... they're talking about Lareth
    as if they hadn't noticed they killed him. On the other hand they should
    never show up here if they've been with the players in the moathouse,
    right?

    Oh, this one. Yes, they were in the party. To be honest I don't
    know if they should oppose (as in has it been even scripted?)
    but it's kinda strange they don't or didn't when I was playing.

    Gaear, sounds to me like an area for future expansion for the Big 3 to me, if some of the Big 3 are in the party they could try to persuade the PC's join with Lareth (which if accepted) should prevent the Big 3 mod from triggering perhaps?

    I suppose, but there's no audio to support it. It should be fairly cut and dried: if any of the big 3 are or ever were in the party, no ambush. If Lareth is in the party, no big 3 ambush. Any other way and the existing dialogue doesn't make sense.

    Maggit - I guess I still don't know what you mean when you say 'oppose.' Oppose what? If you mean T&K should speak up about Lareth in some way if they're in the party, well, there's no audio to support that either. :errf:

    I'm with maggit on this one. K&T seem to be on Lareth's side. You wouldn't think they'd go along with you when you storm his moathouse and try to slay him. There should probably be a dialog that comes up, even if it's not voiced. Like Allyx said, either having them try to convince you to join with Lareth, or maybe them abandoning your party to fight on his side if you continue to oppose him.
