In the event of a total failure, remove everything and start from scratch, following installation directions step by step.

Even quicker question: do I need to have some version of the game actual installed before I can use the modpack? I ask since I removed EVERYTHING TOEE related- even the Atari folder that the disk version of the game created (if the answer to this is 'yes' I'm going to feel really stupid...).

Yes you must have the game installed. The Modpack is merely a modification of the original game.

I recommend reading the installation instructions again and be sure to follow the steps, step by step and do not bypass any of the steps.

Aside from redownloading it, how can I tell if I have the latest version of the modpack? And if I do redownload it, which site is the best to do it from?

The version of the file is part of the name of the file you download.
    e.g.
    "Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_8.1.0_New_Content_Edition_Setup.exe"

The one that is linked in the banner above the forum.

When the game is running you can click on the question mark in the lower right corner and choose Co8, (click on it) and it will tell you exactly what version you have installed.

I'm running a CE party now and have reached 11th level with them and am about to face Hedrack and Co. My question is this: does the assassinations that you do for Gremag actually lead to anything, or can I safely kill Smigal Redhand w/o worrying about missing out on something?

I'm trying to craft a sword with Holy as an effect but I can't get it to come up on my 12th level cleric of Pelor. According to the in-game Help description section I meet all the requirements so what gives? Having just beaten the Balor guardian I have more than enough XP (69,000+) and gold to craft it (the sword is already +3).

"holy" is counted as a +2 bonus, so it would raise the price to that of a +5 weapon.

Has your cleric the GOOD domain for the spell?

Yep- I cast Holy Smite as a Domain spell. The fact that the sword was already +3 shouldn't have kept Holy from showing up as an effect though but I'll try it on a +1 or +2 sword to see if it shows up.

I've crafted holy on a +3 weapon, it just cost a butt load of gold to do it.

I normally try to get Holy on my weapons before +2 and +3. It makes the steps a little smaller and easier to finance.

    31,756 platinum, 16,638 gold and 3 copper isn't enough?

There a limit on total pluses on armor or a weapon based on caster level. It should be 3 levels for each +1. If a weapon has three pluses on it (total of enhancement bonus and other abilities such as holy), and holy is to be added to it, the caster then needs to have caster level of 15. At level 12, no matter how much XP or gold you throw at it, you won't be able to add holy to a +3 weapon.

I get all that- what I'm saying is that Holy doesn't show up as an option when crafting. I have a 12th level cleric of Pelor with the Good domain, 3,821 XP to use for crafting and these are the options I get:

    +1
    +2
    +3
    Defending
    Flaming
    Frost
    Shock
    Keen
    Mighty Cleaving
    Flaming Burst

I think I meet all the requirements to craft a holy weapon- so why don't I get that option?
