That's a fair point, but personally I'm kind of compelled by the idea of some things being outside the players' control (Slaver player death and Gremlich immunity, for example). I mean, I know people don't play the game to get lessons in reality, lol, but I still think some harsh 'realities' have a place in games. If nothing else they make you feel less secure in the knowledge that you're not a complete and utter fat cat. Legitimate sensations of danger in games generally = fun. :)

I have to admit that I tear up a little ;) at the thought of altering the third AoH battle in particular, just because - probably more by accident than anything else - that battle managed to hit the sweet spot of challenge/difficulty/level more than almost any other. It's almost like a mid-game boss encounter.

We'll see. One 'problem' (if you can call it that) is that the Verbo chapter of the NC game is actually rather sandbox compared to the rest of ToEE. You can do most any quest at any time there, with a few exceptions. This then means that if you do nothing in Verbo and go straight to WotGD, all those level 10 fighters and assassins and whatnot with their gonzo XP will level you to probably damn near 20, leaving the job to go get the fugitives or whatever rather mundane indeed.

Was it you who reported deliberately glitching the Moathouse Ambush encounter the other day? If so, shame on you for persisting with that game. ;) (just kidding)

Most generic citizens are scripted to run off now when fights start nearby (in order to avoid the unlikely scenario of the church flour lady jumping into combat and certain death and so on). Apparently when some NPCs run off, however, they don't really go away. That's what's happening with your empty blue circles. This should be refined in some way to be sure, but in the meantime your best course of action is to not go around in Hommlet with the Butcher rep.

    Hi

Where from I can download the 7.5.0 modpack, as moddb is not hosting them anymore?

ModDB is indeed still hosting them, and has in fact serviced 48 downloads today alone. :)

I just tried it and it worked fine. What is your issue?

    Hi Gaear,
my favourite bits of the NC have probably been fear of ghosts and the Gremlich- properly atmospheric and made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I agree that there are some difficulties with the non-linear nature of the Verbobonc NC- the Fugitive quests were almost FedEx for me the first time I did them (probably in NC 6) and I haven't always bothered with them after that. Nothing wrong with that though- if you're CG and the Hextorites are rumoured to be massing against the village that you've made your base for the last several months, then law enforcement in the big town can take a back seat (especially if you haven't fought through WotGS yet..;)). The only things I haven't done are the Thaddeus hit and the Scarlet Brotherhood stuff- too much of a ggody two-shoes I guess!

Since last week I am getting all the time the message:

The file you have selected (Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_7.5.0_NC_Setup.exe) is not available via any mirrors. Please check back shortly as our servers update every 5 minutes. If you have a webserver with space, contact us about providing a download mirror. Your companies banner will be shown thousands of times daily here and supports our game development community.

I can see the information about 17+36 downloads of them today, but that never is avalible. I suppose those numbers can refer to Desura users.

I'd try clearing your browser cache, but in the meantime here are some direct links to Gamefront, which mirrors for ModDB:

    7.5.0 NC

    7.5.0 Standard

Thanks, it's always nice to hear that people like it - makes it worthwhile.

Uh- no? But I went to an earlier save and now have Teleport- I hope that will bypass that problem...

Edit: Cone of Cold works well to clear a room of nuisances.. ;)

Probably not anymore. Those links were available for a few days longer before moddb realized the are no files and switched to the message I pasted in my first post this thread.

    Gamefront says:

Error 6 (net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND): The file or directory could not be found.

That's odd, because I'm downloading them as we speak. ;)

Let's try a couple more mirrors:

    7.5.0 Standard

    7.5.0 NC

These are in Amsterdam. Does Poland have any prohibitions on downloading from abroad?

I never had any problems with downloading Co8 modpacks from moddb until this release.
That new links or you are denied as:
The download requested (Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_7.5.0_NC_Setup.exe) is for members only. Join now to start downloading.
    I'll try to register tomorrow.

I just downloaded from ModDB, not using the Desura and it worked swimmingly.

    A strange bug (?)

Seems like there ought to be a sticky to report things like this, but I could not find one, so here goes.

I was on level 2 of ToEE, and had just wasted a bunch of bugbears and a cleric or two. Afterwards, I picked up all the loot and then started the process of identifying unknown items. My characters have the helm of reading magic and a wand of identify to do this.

BUT, as soon as I used either one the character who used it was frozen and could not move. When they used it via the radial menu, I got the usual "item used" floating by, but did not get the usual whirly spell casting mist -- nor did the item get identified.

If I restored from a save just before this, the character could move -- but would get the same result if they attempted to identify again. If I restored from that same save and marched back out into the world, they could sucessfully do the identify.

No clue as to why this happened, but I do have that save if anyone wants to investigate.

Update: reentered the inn of the Welcome Wench after doing Slavers quest to try to rest since the party leveled up- and got attacked again by the one remaining citizen of Hommeltt and some resurrected NPC's- Turko, Elmo, the wheelwright and Micky. The Hommlett male was in the cellar so of course the combat couldn't be concluded. Don't suppose there is any way to burn down the inn- which since this is the way NE parties start anyway (with the burning of a temple) this would fit in with their previous actions and alignment- and also eliminate this as a future game stopping bug. :)

I remember this problem has been referred to before and don't recall a solution.....

But is there any way to avoid becoming the Butcher of Hommlet if several Hommlet based npcs acquire spell permanency from Minor Globe of Invulnerability?

This is especially frustrating as I am soloing an LE monk who has got away with countless carefully planned evils under the fools' noses.

Who lets the wimpish druid girl out of the Snake Pit anyway? I came back to Hommlet and found her enjoying home comforts (and not KOS at least not prior to acquiring the Butcher rep....)
