    I found a small discrepancy.

The rogue feat "Opportunist" reacts differently in-game than what the feat description reads. The description says they get a free AoO against an opponent who has been struck for damage in melee by another character. In reality, they take their free attack right after the first time they make a successful attack by themselves. I've seen this a million times if I've seen it once. It don't take other character attacks into consideration at all, just theirs.

Opportunist (Ex): Once per round, the rogue can make an attack of opportunity against an opponent who has just been struck for damage in melee by another character. This attack counts as the rogue’s attack of opportunity for that round. Even a rogue with the Combat Reflexes feat can’t use the opportunist ability more than once per round.

Actually, I just remembered something else that is kind of messed up, the ring of resonance. In my most recent playthrough, I cleared out the top 2 temple levels just because of the ring. I used it about 3 or 4 times in a row. I'm just saying that's it's not a once a day thing. It basically gives wizards and sorcerers infinite spells without rest or anything. That seems wrong. That's like the most powerful artifact in the universe and elminster, halaster, the circle of eight and all other magic-users would be killing anything and everything to get that ring. Boccob and/or Mystra might not approve of unrestricted spell use.

Actually, now that I think about it, if Vecna found out about it, he would take it for himself and level Greyhawk along with Iuz and everyone else.

It's urgent that we hear from people on their jerkstop experiences with 5.8.1.

There's about a month to go until 5.9, and we'd like to know one way or the other if jerkstop is gone in 5.8.1 or not so the 'fix' can go into 5.9 or not.

If we don't know for sure, you may end up with jerkstop in your 5.9 games anyway, which no one wants. Or you may end up with no signposts for no good reason, which no one wants either.

So please make a point of watching for / noting any jerkstop wherever it occurs, as well as the absence of jerkstop, and report it here.

If you don't know what jerkstop is and don't know what we're carrying on about here, you probably don't get it anyway (not everyone does), so don't worry about it.

Well I tested it and could only use it once, although after using it my sorcerer's spells were not magically refreshed.

If by jerk-stop you mean the hanging up when scrolling your screen ahead of your moving pc's ... I have not experienced it since I've started playing 5.8.1NC.

I've played through a few times too.

I'm truly impressed at how smooth the fire temple map runs. :)

Jerkstop is when you give a movement command and the party starts to execute it, then the destination circles disappear and the party jerks to a stop prematurely.

Strange happenings last night, storm blew through and knocked cable & internet out, so fired up TOEE, 5.8.1NC. Just finished the moathouse and headed to Nulb. When leaving and heading back to Homlett I get jumped by an Ettin & 8 hobgoblins! First of, WTF on the Ettin at level 4? The 8 hobgoblins would have been a good fight alone. There start almost right on top of me, maybe 30 ft away. Most of my troop are surprised, but luckily my wiz is not, so she casts sleep, knocking out 4 HG. Ettin goes nexts and I figure I'm doomed, but he mashes an upright HG! I stay back with missile weapons, until 2 HG approach me. The ettin proceeded to mash HBs until my jackel ran up on him, and since he had lasted since day one, I didn't want him to die, so my meleers moved in to absorb so hits (25+ per hit) and to take the big guy down. Luckily we finished him off with a couple of critical hits.

So they are not the same faction?

One other note, no jerkstop in town, but every once in a while when I exit a building the town goes into a fog, half the screen is light gray, the other half, on a diagonal, darker gray. I have to leave town, go to a different area, and return to see to be able to move.

That's a legit random encounter. We can fix the faction issue.

@GG - do you normally get jerkstop?

I think the Ettin vs. Hobgoblin situation, while probably unintentional, is fun and refreshing. Others have stated likewise in the past, too. Thus I wouldn't want it to be "fixed".

I agree with Sitra Achara. It makes sense sometimes to have a brutal enemy like the Ettin, or maybe a troll or some other random big powerful enemy be so aggressive it attacks all around it ...including it's own troops or those that are in it's way...

Think of it as soooo pissed it's mowing down it's troops to GET TO YOU

or it's just pissed off at everybody! I say don't worry about it!:twitch:

I concur about the whole ettin/goblin thing. I keep thinking of Lord Of The Rings at the balrog scene. Did you notice how the goblins knew the balrog was near and getting closer and they just bailed when they had the party surrounded and outnumbered like 1000 to 1? They knew the balrog would kill them as much as it would kill the party if they got in his way. The balrog would have squashed/burned many, many goblins to get to them.
