    Just downloaded 5.8.1 NC and it worked fine first time.

    Well, life is this: Somethimes ya win, sometimes ya kiss the ass of someone... But it's fine. Its just something that keep boring me, not really relevant for the game - We shall just make those characters by ourselves, with the right images, chosen voices and all.

    Anyway, Gaer, I thank thee for look about this.

    Ah, as a footnote: I have just instaled the last mode and have gone throught Welkwood bog! Very, very nice! It's pure fun!

    ProtoEd was going to be setup for pc's also, however the author didn't finish it so it was never implemented. It would be a tedious, daunting task with a lot of Temple.dll editing. Not even sure if the game-engine would accept it anyway. Everything is .Net now. UltraEdit32 works good but editing .dll files is a major pain and Temple.dll is confusing as hell. I've had some success but it's not my bag as they say. My changes for Fruella worked tho.

    Just started a new game using 5.8.1 and it seems like the sign in front of the tavern doesn't work.
    Do we have to walk everywhere in Hommlet now?

    I noticed it also and the one in Nulb works and the dlg file is there. No reason to change it that I know of. Maybe there where seperate dlg files for Hommlet and Nulb. Not sure.

    Yes, the Hommlet signpost is gone, although I didn't intend to do that for the wide release. Still, it will ultimately serve to help troubleshoot in that there are suspicions that it's the cause of jerkstop. So yes, please play without the signpost this time, watch out for jerkstop, and report your findings. If the jerkstop is gone, we'll know we need to redesign the signpost. If it's still there, well, back to the drawing board.

    For anyone who's feeling particularly crabby about this, I'll point out that I advertised for internal testers to test this very thing some time ago, and didn't receive a single response. When nobody wants to chip in, we have no choice but to test this way. These are beta releases after all, so one way or another, some or all of you are going to be the testers.

    If it can be shown that the current signposts are the cause of jerkstop (basically, if jerkstop completely goes away with v5.8.1), I imagine we'll do something similar to that in that we'll just make the signposts NPCs. All we'd have to do then is figure out (or locate) a script to stop combat if players let off AoE spells in their vicinity or attack the posts directly ... which doubtless someone will.

    So anyway, please do report your jerkstop experiences with 5.8.1 here, everybody. This is important.

    Can you describe jerk stop? I am not sure if I have ever experienced it.

    I have just started a brand new game this morning and am currently 7th level. I've been running all over hell and the game seems more fluid than it once was. I don't know what jerkstop is but I'm fairly sure I don't have it.

    Is jerkstop what happens in the fire node constantly?

    As defined by GA82, and probably more accurate:

    Far and away the most common place to see it is outside the Welcome Wench in Hommlet, but it has also been reported sporadically in Nulb ... near the signpost. It's not universal by any means, so don't think there's something wrong with you if you've never seen it. I never get it myself.

    If you see it - or don't - by either definition, please let us know.

    I have it in 2 current 5.8NC games, but it only happens in Homlett when I teleport out of the temple, even if I go somewhere else first. I thought it was happening just when I TPed back to Homlett, so I started TPing to Delko then walking to town, but when I got there, the jerkstop would happen. If I leave town and rest elsewhere, even a random map, then go back I can walk fine. Also walking with just one character sometimes helps, but if i go in the inn, rest and come out, chose whole group, then walk it will jerkstop sometimes.

    If I walk out of the temple, then back to town, it never occurs

    I got another problem. I just restarted a new game, am currently 8th level. I've had to xp farm some because brother smythe won't ever give me the option to tell me something different. This is a brand new fresh install after I reformatted the computer yesterday. Patch 1 and 2, .NET with the brand new windowsupdate for it, and I only have 5.8.1 installed. Neutral good fighter, chaotic neutral rogue, neutral good cleric and chaotic good wizard. Do you have to be all good?

    @Necro - Do you have 5.8.1 NC installed? You don't get new content in the standard version.

    @GG - Do you have 5.8.0 or 5.8.1 NC installed? The jerkstop fix is only in 5.8.1.
