I don't recall so many problems when playing vanilla version & the only mod I've used is the 5.6.0 one someone here linked me to.

    "Trainers"?

Rest assured, there were a multitude of problems with vanilla. A guy is reporting at Sorcerer's Place right now how his vanilla game is randomly crashing.

A trainer is a hack used to, among other things, change character stats. For example, you could use a trainer to give your PCs extra feats. This would likely cause problems at level-up.

    btw, was just reviewing ...

If you in fact reinstalled Atari patch 2 over your Co8 installation, that would indeed cause all kinds of problems, including corrupted saves. The Co8 mod changes files from patch 2 that are critical to operation, so reinstalling patch 2 would basically destroy much of Co8's modifications and most likely make the game very unstable.

    Never tried a trainer.

Your review of my earlier posting- yeah if I remember right, I think that was done before I recently uninstalled & tried it all again.

Tempted to reinstall again, actually. I may as well since none of my saves are good. =/

When you reinstalled, did you try to use your old saves?

Back to the question of balance. Am I imagining things, or is more XP available now than it was in the original game? I've barely started the Temple and am at level 9 already with a party of 5.

Yeah. Nada. Un/reinstalled yet again. (w/ Mod pack again too)

I'm almost afraid to play now. =/

Not sure what I need to do to avoid further corrupted saves....

If you get corrupted saves the only thing to do is to delete them and start a new game. Go to toeeroot/modules/toee/save and delete any files there. Then delete them from the recycle bin just to be sure. There is no 100% for sure way to avoid corrupt saves. It's been a game feature since the beginning.

Does this mean yes you did and it didn't work, or what? Saves will absolutely not work across mod packs, nor will a previously corrupt save become uncorrupt if a modpack is reactivated or the game/mod are reinstalled.

So, if you installed Atari patch 2 overtop the Co8 mod originally and corrupted the saves, then reinstalled and attempted to use those corrupt saves again, those saves will still fail. They are never, ever going to work with subsequent games no matter what.

If all the above is true, your issue is really not 'random' crashing and/or save corruption.

    Sorry...

Yeah, I did try using old saves.

But as of last night, I've deleted Everything again (incl. saves) & reinstalled fresh w/ Mod Pack 5.6.0

It appears that moving Mickey inside the Waterside Hostel has had the unfortunate side effect of eliminating one of the solutions to his quest (namely beating him unconscious and looting it directly off of him). Well, I suppose you can still do that, but you'll have to slaughter the whole bar now.

I've just given him a 'Mickey' faction of his own, which should prevent that, but are there then potential problems with parties killing him in Hommlet or around Hommletians - e.g. that no one will assist while you kill their buddy? I see that he had no faction originally, while other Hommletians of course have the Hommlet faction and the brewhouse guys at least have a second faction (11 I think it is).

It doesn't seem such a big deal to me at any rate.

I like the new missile weapons! They remind me of the good ole days of AD&D(1) when almost every problem could be solved with a little dose of flaming oil, especially after web. :flamed:

Are they all reuseable? Better still: Can they be fumbled? (Drop, roll and set fire to the grass.)

The bad news is: I don't want to kill Rannos and Gremag anymore.

All you need is a level 1 druid. Meleny, for example, or any other. "Charm animal" on the bear makes the battle a breeze. The Giant is also susceptible to all sorts of spells that require a Will save.
