Found the Problem and Solution It is DirectX v9.0c afterall... What you can do (if you have WinXP) is: a) Download DirectX Eradicator 1.09 Beta 2 from http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/14/4/14-4-40.shtml b) Have your WinXP CD at hand. c) Run the above util and insert the WinXP CD when prompted. d) Problem solved !!! (your saved games should work fine) I would prefer another solution though coz in the end we all have to update DirectX and that would make ToEE obsolete
It can't be DX9.0c, because people are having problems with this having 9.0b installed as well. Any word on a patch for all this?
Problem status anyone? Can anybody plz send any info about the problem? Did the workaround I suggested worked for them as it worked for me? Taldren the only thing I changed on my rig and hit the problem was the installation of DX 9.0c. Have you had the problem? Did you try uninstalling DX9.0c? Anybody plz send some feedback so we can fix this... ???
The work around only works in some cases. There are times where I can't even open doors without being in combat mode and then only in a few instances does it work. Patch is needed or I am going to have to uninstall the game and burn the discs out of fustration.
I can concur that the looting problem is caused by DirectX 9.0c. I uninstalled it with DirectX eradicator and re-installed 9.0b. After that I could loot and open doors with no problems. First, I wanted to thank you so much for the work around. I spent the first week of playing this game loading and reloading it in every posible configuration trying to get looting to work. Thank you! The only thing I would like to add is, I don't think it has to do with Direct x 9.0c. I've never had anything higher than 9.0b. William
Did what was recomended with directx and still cant loot or talk to people on the 4th floor of the tower. Seems to be when this decided to start for me. Anyone have any other ideas?
Also have the loot problem I'm also having the loot problem and I cannot open doors. I have to go into combat mode C to loot and walk thru the doors if I want to get thru them. That only works if they're unlocked. I'm totally screwed when it comes to locked doors. It was working just fine until I installed SP2 for Windows XP. I have uninstalled SP2 but am still having the problem although when I uninstalled it, it did get rid of the error I was having on exiting the game. So that leads me to believe the problem lies in Directx 9.0c which is still on my computer. If I had known it was included with sp2 then I never would have downloaded it. I read the file on it and it didn't mention directx update in it. That really bites. Also, I Do NOT have a windows XP Disc so I cannot use that fix that you'll posted above. I would love to get rid of Directx 9.0c because I also have problems with Freedom Force. Can I use that directx uninstaller without needing a Windows disc or is there anything else I can do? I'm almost to the point of doing a destructive recovery on this crappy prefab Hp computer. It will be the last computer that I own that I haven't built myself. Any help would be much welcome. Thank you.
Got my axe, will hack! FIX: If you have your OS disk. Download directx eradicator. Takes a moment & it is free. Run it & use your windows disk to return your directx to the origional os version. Find a newer version to download. I found 9.0b out there. Reboot & play away! This ol' dwarf needs to clean his ax now...
It's not XP SP2 or DX 9.0c or Patch 1 or Patch 2 or the Co8 mod at all. I've got all those, and just upgraded to Co8 3.0.4 tonight and am looting just fine by hitting the 'C' key. You do have to be rather quick if a cut scene follows your battle - just watch when your characters are coming out of combat and hit the 'C' key before your taken away from the battlefield. I would reccommend turning off the firewall, your virus scanner, and any internet security (as well as your internet connection of course), as there's no need to be running all that while ToEE is trying to run anyway. I do get a CDT on exit from the game, but that does'nt seem to be affecting anything. Hope this info was of some help.
Really? Firewalls et al, don't really soak up that many resources anymore, and any decent processor can easily manage the overhead required to run them without slowing down the game. Of course, if your virus soft does a full system scan, that'll slow you down, which is why mine is set to do it at 4 AM when I'm sound asleep.
